1 Ndugu zangu, shauku ya moyo wangu na maombi yangu kwa Mungu ni kwa ajili ya Waisraeli, kwamba waokolewe.
Brethren! the delight of my own heart and my supplication God-ward in their behalf, are for salvation;
2 Kwa maana ninaweza nikashuhudia wazi kwamba wao wana juhudi kubwa kwa ajili ya Mungu, lakini juhudi yao haina maarifa.
For I bear them witness that they have, a zeal for God, —but not according to correct knowledge;
3 Kwa kuwa hawakuijua haki itokayo kwa Mungu, wakatafuta kuweka haki yao wenyewe, hawakujitia chini ya haki ya Mungu.
For, not knowing God’s righteousness and, their own, seeking to establish, unto the righteousness of God, have they not submitted;
4 Kwa maana Kristo ni ukomo wa sheria ili kuwe na haki kwa kila mtu aaminiye.
For Christ is an end of law, for righteousness, unto every one that believeth.
5 Mose anaandika kuhusu haki ile itokanayo na sheria, kwamba, “Mtu atendaye matendo hayo ataishi kwa hayo.”
For, Moses, writeth that—as touching the righteousness that is by law, The man that hath done [it], shall live thereby;
6 Lakini ile haki itokanayo na imani husema hivi: “Usiseme moyoni mwako, ‘Ni nani atakayepanda mbinguni?’” (yaani ili kumleta Kristo chini)
Whereas, the righteousness by faith, thus speaketh—Do not say in thy heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? That is, to bring, Christ, down,
Or, Who shall descend into the abyss? That is, to bring up, Christ, from among the dead; (Abyssos g12)
8 Lakini andiko lasemaje? “Lile neno liko karibu nawe, liko kinywani mwako na moyoni mwako,” yaani, lile neno la imani tunalolihubiri.
But what saith it? Near thee, is the declaration, In thy mouth and in thy heart, —that is, the declaration of the faith, which we proclaim: —
9 Kwa sababu kama ukikiri kwa kinywa chako kwamba “Yesu ni Bwana,” na kuamini moyoni mwako kwamba Mungu alimfufua kutoka kwa wafu, utaokoka.
That, if thou shalt confess the declaration with thy mouth—That Jesus is, Lord, and shalt believe with thy hear—That, God, raised him from among the dead, thou shalt be saved; —
10 Kwa maana kwa moyo mtu huamini na hivyo kuhesabiwa haki, tena kwa kinywa mtu hukiri na hivyo kupata wokovu.
For, in heart, it is to be believed unto righteousness, and, by mouth, it is to be confessed unto salvation.
11 Kama yasemavyo Maandiko, “Yeyote amwaminiye hataaibika kamwe.”
For the scripture saith—No one that resteth faith thereupon, shall be put to shame?
12 Kwa maana hakuna tofauti kati ya Myahudi na Myunani, yeye ni Bwana wa wote, mwenye utajiri kwa wote wamwitao.
For there is no distinction—of Jew or Greek, —for, the same [Lord], is Lord of all, being rich unto all who call upon him;
13 Kwa maana, “Kila mtu atakayeliitia Jina la Bwana, ataokolewa.”
For, Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved: —
14 Lakini watamwitaje yeye ambaye hawajamwamini? Nao watawezaje kumwamini yeye ambaye hawajamsikia? Tena watamsikiaje bila mtu kuwahubiria?
How, then, shall men call upon one in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in one of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear, without one to proclaim?
15 Nao watahubirije wasipopelekwa? Kama ilivyoandikwa, “Tazama jinsi ilivyo mizuri miguu yao wale wanaohubiri habari njema!”
And how shall they proclaim, except they be sent? Even as it is written—How beautiful the feet of them that bring glad tidings of good things!
16 Lakini si wote waliotii Habari Njema. Kwa maana Isaya asema, “Bwana, ni nani aliyeamini ujumbe wetu?”
But, not all, have become obedient unto the glad tidings; —for, Isaiah, saith—Lord! who believed what we have heard?
17 Basi, imani chanzo chake ni kusikia, na kusikia huja kwa neno la Kristo.
Hence, our faith, cometh by something heard, and, that which is heard, through a declaration of Christ.
18 Lakini nauliza: Je, wao hawakusikia? Naam, wamesikia, kwa maana: “Sauti yao imeenea duniani pote, nayo maneno yao yameenea hadi miisho ya ulimwengu.”
But I say: Have they not heard? Yea indeed, —into all the earth, hath gone forth their sound, and, unto the ends of the inhabited world, their declarations.
19 Nami nauliza tena: Je, Waisraeli hawakuelewa? Kwanza, Mose asema, “Nitawafanya mwe na wivu kwa watu wale ambao si taifa. Nitawakasirisha kwa taifa lile lisilo na ufahamu.”
But I say: Hath, Israel, not come to know? First, Moses, saith—I, will provoke you to jealousy on account of a no-nation, on account of an undiscerning nation, will I make you very angry.
20 Naye Isaya kwa ujasiri mwingi anasema, “Nimeonekana na watu wale ambao hawakunitafuta. Nilijifunua kwa watu wale ambao hawakunitafuta.”
Isaiah, however, waxeth daring, and saith, —I have been found by them who after me were not seeking, manifest have I become unto them who for me were not enquiring;
21 Lakini kuhusu Israeli anasema, “Mchana kutwa nimewanyooshea watu wakaidi na wasiotii mikono yangu.”
Whereas, regarding Israel, he saith—All day long, have I stretched forth my hands unto a people unyielding and contradicting.
