1 Kwa mwimbishaji. Mtindo wa “Shushani Eduthi.” Utenzi wa Daudi wa kufundisha. Wakati alipopigana na Waaramu kutoka Aramu-Naharaimu na Aramu-Soba, naye Yoabu akarudi nyuma na kuwaua Waedomu 12,000 katika Bonde la Chumvi. Ee Mungu, umetukataa na kutokea ghafula juu yetu, umekasirika: sasa turejeshe upya!
To the chief Musician. On Shushan. Testimony. Michtam of David; to teach: when he strove with the Syrians of Mesopotamia, and the Syrians of Zobah, and Joab returned, and smote the Edomites in the valley of salt, twelve thousand. O God, thou hast cast us off, thou hast scattered us, thou hast been displeased: restore us again.
2 Umetetemesha nchi na kuipasua; uiponye mavunjiko yake, kwa maana inatetemeka.
Thou hast made the earth to tremble, thou hast rent it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh.
3 Umewaonyesha watu wako nyakati za kukata tamaa; umetunywesha mvinyo unaotuyumbisha.
Thou hast shewn thy people hard things; thou hast made us to drink the wine of bewilderment.
4 Kwa wale wanaokucha wewe, umewainulia bendera, ili iweze kutwekwa dhidi ya upinde.
Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth, (Selah)
5 Tuokoe na utusaidie kwa mkono wako wa kuume, ili wale uwapendao wapate kuokolewa.
That thy beloved ones may be delivered. Save with thy right hand, and answer me.
6 Mungu amenena kutoka patakatifu pake: “Nitaigawa Shekemu kwa ushindi na kulipima Bonde la Sukothi.
God hath spoken in his holiness: I will exult, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.
7 Gileadi ni yangu na Manase ni yangu; Efraimu ni kofia yangu ya chuma, nayo Yuda ni fimbo yangu ya utawala.
Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine, and Ephraim is the strength of my head; Judah is my law-giver;
8 Moabu ni sinia langu la kunawia, juu ya Edomu natupa kiatu changu; nashangilia kwa kushindwa kwa Ufilisti.”
Moab is my wash-pot; upon Edom will I cast my sandal; Philistia, shout aloud because of me.
9 Ni nani atakayenipeleka hadi mji wenye ngome? Ni nani atakayeniongoza hadi nifike Edomu?
Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me unto Edom?
10 Ee Mungu, si ni wewe uliyetukataa sisi, na hutoki tena na majeshi yetu?
[Wilt] not thou, O God, who didst cast us off? and didst not go forth, O God, with our armies?
11 Tuletee msaada dhidi ya adui, kwa maana msaada wa mwanadamu haufai kitu.
Give us help from trouble; for vain is man's deliverance.
12 Kwa msaada wa Mungu tutapata ushindi, naye atawaponda adui zetu.
Through God we shall do valiantly; and he it is that will tread down our adversaries.
