1 Wakati Israeli walipotoka Misri, nyumba ya Yakobo kutoka kwa watu wa lugha ngeni,

When Israel went out of Egypt, and the house of Iaakob from the barbarous people,

2 Yuda alifanywa makao matakatifu ya Mungu, Israeli akawa milki yake.

Iudah was his sanctification, and Israel his dominion.

3 Bahari ilitazama ikakimbia, Yordani ulirudi nyuma,

The Sea sawe it and fled: Iorden was turned backe.

4 milima ilirukaruka kama kondoo dume, vilima kama wana-kondoo.

The mountaines leaped like rams, and the hils as lambes.

5 Ee bahari, ni nini kilichokufanya ukakimbia, nawe, ee Yordani, ukarudi nyuma,

What ailed thee, O Sea, that thou fleddest? O Iorden, why wast thou turned backe?

6 enyi milima mkarukaruka kama kondoo dume, enyi vilima, kama wana-kondoo?

Ye mountaines, why leaped ye like rams, and ye hils as lambes?

7 Ee dunia, tetemeka mbele za Bwana, mbele za Mungu wa Yakobo,

The earth trembled at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Iaakob,

8 aliyegeuza mwamba kuwa dimbwi la maji, mwamba mgumu kuwa chemchemi za maji.

Which turneth the rocke into waterpooles, and the flint into a fountaine of water.
