1 Jawabu la upole hugeuza ghadhabu, bali neno liumizalo huchochea hasira.
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
2 Ulimi wa mwenye hekima husifu maarifa, bali kinywa cha mpumbavu hufoka upumbavu.
The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of the fool spouts folly.
3 Macho ya Bwana yako kila mahali, yakiwaangalia waovu na wema.
The eyes of the LORD are in every place, observing the evil and the good.
4 Ulimi uletao uponyaji ni mti wa uzima, bali ulimi udanganyao huponda roho.
A soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.
5 Mpumbavu hubeza maonyo ya baba yake, bali yeyote akubaliye maonyo huonyesha busara.
A fool rejects his father’s discipline, but whoever heeds correction is prudent.
6 Nyumba ya mwenye haki ina hazina kubwa, bali mapato ya waovu huwaletea taabu.
The house of the righteous has great treasure, but the income of the wicked is trouble.
7 Midomo ya mwenye hekima hueneza maarifa, bali sivyo ilivyo mioyo ya wapumbavu.
The lips of the wise spread knowledge, but not so the hearts of fools.
8 Bwana huchukia sana dhabihu za waovu, bali maombi ya wanyofu humfurahisha Mungu.
The sacrifice of the wicked is detestable to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is His delight.
9 Bwana huchukia sana njia ya waovu, bali huwapenda wale wafuatao haki.
The LORD detests the way of the wicked, but He loves those who pursue righteousness.
10 Adhabu kali humngoja yeye aachaye njia; yeye achukiaye maonyo atakufa.
Discipline is harsh for him who leaves the path; he who hates correction will die.
11 Mauti na Uharibifu viko wazi mbele za Bwana: je, si zaidi sana mioyo ya wanadamu! (Sheol )
Sheol and Abaddon lie open before the LORD— how much more the hearts of men! (Sheol )
12 Mwenye mzaha huchukia maonyo; hatataka shauri kwa mwenye hekima.
A mocker does not love to be reproved, nor will he consult the wise.
13 Moyo wenye furaha hufanya uso uchangamke, bali maumivu ya moyoni huponda roho.
A joyful heart makes a cheerful countenance, but sorrow of the heart crushes the spirit.
14 Moyo wa mwenye ufahamu hutafuta maarifa, bali kinywa cha mpumbavu hujilisha upumbavu.
A discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly.
15 Siku zote za wanaoonewa ni za taabu, bali moyo mchangamfu una karamu ya kudumu.
All the days of the oppressed are bad, but a cheerful heart has a continual feast.
16 Afadhali kuwa na kidogo pamoja na kumcha Bwana, kuliko mali nyingi pamoja na ghasia.
Better a little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure with turmoil.
17 Afadhali chakula cha mboga mahali palipo na upendo kuliko nyama ya ndama iliyonona pamoja na chuki.
Better a dish of vegetables where there is love than a fattened ox with hatred.
18 Mtu mwepesi wa hasira huchochea ugomvi, bali mtu mvumilivu hutuliza ugomvi.
A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger calms dispute.
19 Njia ya mvivu imezibwa na miiba, bali njia ya mwenye haki ni barabara kuu.
The way of the slacker is like a hedge of thorns, but the path of the upright is a highway.
20 Mwana mwenye hekima huleta furaha kwa baba yake, bali mtu mpumbavu humdharau mama yake.
A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish man despises his mother.
21 Upumbavu humfurahisha mtu ambaye hana akili, bali mtu mwenye ufahamu hushika njia iliyonyooka.
Folly is joy to one who lacks judgment, but a man of understanding walks a straight path.
22 Mipango hushindwa kufanikiwa kwa ajili ya kukosa ushauri, bali kukiwa na washauri wengi hufanikiwa.
Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.
23 Mtu hupata furaha katika kutoa jibu linalofaa: je, ni zuri namna gani neno lililotoka kwa wakati wake!
A man takes joy in a fitting reply— and how good is a timely word!
24 Mapito ya uzima huelekea juu kwa ajili ya wenye hekima kumwepusha asiende chini kaburini. (Sheol )
The path of life leads upward for the wise, that he may avoid going down to Sheol. (Sheol )
25 Bwana hubomoa nyumba ya mtu mwenye kiburi, bali huilinda mipaka ya mjane isiguswe.
The LORD tears down the house of the proud, but He protects the boundaries of the widow.
26 Bwana huchukia sana mawazo ya mwovu, bali mawazo ya wale walio safi humfurahisha yeye.
The LORD detests the thoughts of the wicked, but the words of the pure are pleasant to Him.
27 Mtu mwenye tamaa huletea jamaa yake taabu, bali yeye achukiaye rushwa ataishi.
He who is greedy for unjust gain brings trouble on his household, but he who hates bribes will live.
28 Moyo wa mwenye haki hupima majibu yake, bali kinywa cha mwovu hufoka ubaya.
The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked blurts out evil.
29 Bwana yuko mbali na waovu, bali husikia maombi ya wenye haki.
The LORD is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous.
30 Mtazamo wa tabasamu huleta furaha moyoni, nazo habari njema huipa mifupa afya.
The light of the eyes cheers the heart, and good news nourishes the bones.

He who listens to life-giving reproof will dwell among the wise.

33 Kumcha Bwana humfundisha mtu hekima, nao unyenyekevu huja kabla ya heshima.
The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom, and humility comes before honor.
