1 Bwana alisema na Mose katika Jangwa la Sinai, katika Hema la Kukutania, siku ya kwanza ya mwezi wa pili, katika mwaka wa pili baada ya Waisraeli kutoka nchi ya Misri. Akamwambia,
And the Lord spoke unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tabernacle of the congregation, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after their going out of the land of Egypt, saying,
2 “Hesabu watu wa jumuiya yote ya Waisraeli kwa kufuata koo zao na jamaa zao, ukiorodhesha kila mwanaume kwa jina lake, mmoja mmoja.
Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, every male according to their polls;
3 Wewe na Aroni mtawahesabu kwa migawanyo yao wanaume wote katika Israeli wenye miaka ishirini na kuendelea ambao wanaweza kutumika katika jeshi.
From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel: these shall ye number according to their armies, thou and Aaron.
4 Mwanaume mmoja kutoka kila kabila, kila aliye kiongozi wa jamaa yake, atawasaidia.
And with you there shall be one man each of every tribe; a man who is the head of his family division.
5 Haya ndiyo majina ya wanaume watakaowasaidia: “kutoka Reubeni, ni Elisuri mwana wa Shedeuri;
And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you; of Reuben: Elizur the son of Shedeur.
6 kutoka Simeoni, ni Shelumieli mwana wa Surishadai;
Of Simeon: Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.
7 kutoka Yuda, ni Nashoni mwana wa Aminadabu;
Of Judah: Nachshon the son of 'Amminadab.
8 kutoka Isakari, ni Nethaneli mwana wa Suari;
Of Issachar: Nethanel the son of Zuar.
9 kutoka Zabuloni, ni Eliabu mwana wa Heloni;
Of Zebulun: Eliab the son of Chelon.
10 kutoka wana wa Yosefu: kutoka Efraimu, ni Elishama mwana wa Amihudi; kutoka Manase, ni Gamalieli mwana wa Pedasuri;
Of the children of Joseph, of Ephraim: Elishama the son of 'Ammihud; of Menasseh: Gamliel the son of Pedahzur.
11 kutoka Benyamini, ni Abidani mwana wa Gideoni;
Of Benjamin: Abidan the son of Gidoni.
12 kutoka Dani, ni Ahiezeri mwana wa Amishadai;
Of Dan: Achiezer the son of 'Ammishaddai.
13 kutoka Asheri, ni Pagieli mwana wa Okrani;
Of Asher: Pagiel the son of 'Ochran.
14 kutoka Gadi, ni Eliasafu mwana wa Deueli;
Of Gad: Elyassaph the son of Deuel.
15 kutoka Naftali, ni Ahira mwana wa Enani.”
Of Naphtali: Achira the son of 'Enan.
16 Hawa walikuwa wanaume walioteuliwa kutoka jumuiya, viongozi wa makabila ya baba zao. Walikuwa wakuu wa koo za Israeli.
These were the selected of the congregation, the princes of the tribes of their fathers; the heads of the thousands of Israel were they.
17 Mose na Aroni wakawachukua wanaume hao waliokuwa wamepewa majina yao,
And Moses and Aaron took these men who are expressed by name:
18 wakaita jumuiya yote pamoja katika siku ya kwanza ya mwezi wa pili. Watu wakaonyesha nasaba zao kwa koo zao na jamaa zao, nao wanaume waliokuwa na miaka ishirini au zaidi waliorodheshwa kwa majina, mmoja mmoja,
And all the congregation they assembled together on the first day of the second month, and they were enrolled in the lists of their pedigrees after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, according to their polls.
19 kama Bwana alivyomwagiza Mose. Hivyo aliwahesabu katika Jangwa la Sinai:
As the Lord had commanded Moses, so did he number them in the wilderness of Sinai.
20 Kutoka wazao wa Reubeni, mzaliwa wa kwanza wa kiume wa Israeli: Wanaume wote waliokuwa na miaka ishirini au zaidi ambao waliweza kutumika katika jeshi waliorodheshwa kwa majina, mmoja mmoja, kufuatana na kumbukumbu za koo zao na jamaa zao.
And there were of the children of Reuben the first-born of Israel, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names according to their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;
21 Idadi kutoka kabila la Reubeni ilikuwa watu 46,500.
Those that were numbered of the tribe of Reuben, were forty and six thousand and five hundred.
22 Kutoka wazao wa Simeoni: Wanaume wote waliokuwa na miaka ishirini au zaidi ambao waliweza kutumika katika jeshi walihesabiwa na kuorodheshwa kwa majina, mmoja mmoja, kufuatana na kumbukumbu za koo zao na jamaa zao.
Of the children of Simeon, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, those that were numbered of them, by numbering the names according to their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;
23 Idadi kutoka kabila la Simeoni walikuwa watu 59,300.
Those that were numbered of the tribe of Simeon, were fifty and nine thousand and three hundred.
24 Kutoka wazao wa Gadi: Wanaume wote waliokuwa na miaka ishirini au zaidi ambao waliweza kutumika katika jeshi waliorodheshwa kwa majina, kufuatana na kumbukumbu za koo zao na jamaa zao.
Of the children of Gad, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;
25 Idadi kutoka kabila la Gadi walikuwa watu 45,650.
Those that were numbered of the tribe of Gad, were forty and five thousand six hundred and fifty.
26 Kutoka wazao wa Yuda: Wanaume wote waliokuwa na miaka ishirini au zaidi ambao waliweza kutumika katika jeshi waliorodheshwa kwa majina, kufuatana na kumbukumbu za koo zao na jamaa zao.
Of the children of Judah, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;
27 Idadi kutoka kabila la Yuda walikuwa watu 74,600.
Those that were numbered of the tribe of Judah, were seventy and four thousand and six hundred.
28 Kutoka wazao wa Isakari: Wanaume wote waliokuwa na miaka ishirini au zaidi ambao waliweza kutumika katika jeshi waliorodheshwa kwa majina, kufuatana na kumbukumbu za koo zao na jamaa zao.
Of the children of Issachar, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;
29 Idadi kutoka kabila la Isakari walikuwa watu 54,400.
Those that were numbered of the tribe of Issachar, were fifty and four thousand and four hundred.
30 Kutoka wazao wa Zabuloni: Wanaume wote waliokuwa na miaka ishirini au zaidi ambao waliweza kutumika katika jeshi waliorodheshwa kwa majina, kufuatana na kumbukumbu za koo zao na jamaa zao.
Of the children of Zebulun, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;
31 Idadi kutoka kabila la Zabuloni walikuwa watu 57,400.
Those that were numbered of the tribe of Zebulun, were fifty and seven thousand and four hundred.
32 Kutoka wana wa Yosefu: Kutoka wazao wa Efraimu: Wanaume wote waliokuwa na miaka ishirini au zaidi ambao waliweza kutumika katika jeshi waliorodheshwa kwa majina, kufuatana na kumbukumbu za koo zao na jamaa zao.
Of the children of Joseph, namely, of the children of Ephraim, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war.
33 Idadi kutoka kabila la Efraimu walikuwa watu 40,500.
Those that were numbered of the tribe of Ephraim, were forty thousand and five hundred.
34 Kutoka wazao wa Manase: Wanaume wote waliokuwa na miaka ishirini au zaidi ambao waliweza kutumika katika jeshi waliorodheshwa kwa majina, kufuatana na kumbukumbu za koo zao na jamaa zao.
Of the children of Menasseh, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;
35 Idadi kutoka kabila la Manase walikuwa watu 32,200.
Those that were numbered of the tribe of Menasseh, were thirty and two thousand and two hundred.
36 Kutoka wazao wa Benyamini: Wanaume wote waliokuwa na miaka ishirini au zaidi ambao waliweza kutumika katika jeshi waliorodheshwa kwa majina, kufuatana na kumbukumbu za koo zao na jamaa zao.
Of the children of Benjamin, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;
37 Idadi kutoka kabila la Benyamini walikuwa watu 35,400.
Those that were numbered of the tribe of Benjamin, were thirty and five thousand and four hundred.
38 Kutoka wazao wa Dani: Wanaume wote waliokuwa na miaka ishirini au zaidi ambao waliweza kutumika katika jeshi waliorodheshwa kwa majina, kufuatana na kumbukumbu za koo zao na jamaa zao.
Of the children of Dan, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;
39 Idadi kutoka kabila la Dani walikuwa watu 62,700.
Those that were numbered of the tribe of Dan, were sixty and two thousand and seven hundred.
40 Kutoka wazao wa Asheri: Wanaume wote waliokuwa na miaka ishirini au zaidi ambao waliweza kutumika katika jeshi waliorodheshwa kwa majina, kufuatana na kumbukumbu za koo zao na jamaa zao.
Of the children of Asher, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;
41 Idadi kutoka kabila la Asheri walikuwa watu 41,500.
Those that were numbered of the tribe of Asher, were forty and one thousand and five hundred.
42 Kutoka wazao wa Naftali: Wanaume wote waliokuwa na miaka ishirini au zaidi ambao waliweza kutumika katika jeshi waliorodheshwa kwa majina, kufuatana na kumbukumbu za koo zao na jamaa zao.
Of the children of Naphtali, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;
43 Idadi kutoka kabila la Naftali walikuwa watu 53,400.
Those that were numbered of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty and three thousand and four hundred.
44 Hawa walikuwa wanaume waliohesabiwa na Mose, Aroni na viongozi kumi na wawili wa Israeli, kila mmoja akiwakilisha jamaa yake.
These are those that were numbered, whom Moses numbered with Aaron, and the princes of Israel, being twelve men; one man each for his family division were they.
45 Wanaume wote Waisraeli waliokuwa na miaka ishirini au zaidi ambao waliweza kutumika katika jeshi la Israeli walihesabiwa kufuatana na jamaa zao.
Thus were all those that were numbered of the children of Israel, by the descent from their fathers, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war in Israel, —
46 Jumla ya hesabu yao ilikuwa watu 603,550.
Even all they that were numbered, were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.
47 Hata hivyo, jamaa ya kabila la Lawi hawakuhesabiwa pamoja na wengine.
But the Levites, after the tribe of their fathers, were not numbered among them.
48 Bwana alikuwa amemwambia Mose:
For the Lord had spoken unto Moses, saying,
49 “Kamwe usihesabu kabila la Lawi wala kuwaweka pamoja katika hesabu ya Waisraeli wengine.
Only the tribe of Levi shalt thou not number, and their sum shalt thou not take, among the children of Israel;
50 Badala yake, waweke Walawi kuwa viongozi wa Maskani ya Ushuhuda, juu ya samani zake na kila kitu kilichomo ndani yake. Wao watabeba Maskani na samani zake zote; wataitunza na kupiga kambi kuizunguka.
But thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of the testimony, and over all its vessels, and over all things that belong to it: they shall carry the tabernacle, and all its vessels; and they shall minister unto it; and round about the tabernacle shall they encamp.
51 Wakati wowote Maskani inapohamishwa, Walawi wataifungua, na wakati wowote maskani inapotakiwa kusimamishwa, Walawi watafanya kazi hiyo. Mtu yeyote mwingine ambaye atasogea karibu nayo atauawa.
And when the tabernacle is to be carried forward, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.
52 Waisraeli watapiga mahema yao kwa makundi makundi, kila mwanaume katika kambi yake mwenyewe chini ya bendera yake.
And the children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, according to their armies.
53 Hata hivyo, Walawi watapiga mahema yao kuzunguka Maskani ya Ushuhuda ili ghadhabu isiipate jumuiya ya Waisraeli. Walawi watawajibika kwa utunzaji wa Maskani ya Ushuhuda.”
But the Levites shall encamp round shout the tabernacle of the testimony, that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of the testimony.
54 Waisraeli walifanya yote haya sawasawa kama Bwana alivyomwamuru Mose.
And the children of Israel did so: all, just as the Lord had commanded Moses, so did they.
