Luka 3
1 Katika mwaka wa kumi na tano wa utawala wa Kaisari Tiberio, Pontio Pilato akiwa mtawala wa Uyahudi, Herode akiwa mfalme wa Galilaya, Filipo ndugu yake akiwa mfalme wa Iturea na nchi ya Trakoniti, na Lisania akiwa mfalme wa Abilene,
Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,
2 nao Anasi na Kayafa wakiwa makuhani wakuu, neno la Mungu likamjia Yohana, mwana wa Zekaria huko jangwani.
when Annas and Caiaphas were high-priests, the word of God came to John, the son of Zachariah, in the wilderness.
3 Akaenda katika nchi yote kandokando ya Mto Yordani, akihubiri ubatizo wa toba kwa ajili ya msamaha wa dhambi.
And he came into all the country about the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;
4 Kama ilivyoandikwa katika kitabu cha nabii Isaya: “Sauti ya mtu aliaye nyikani, ‘Itengenezeni njia ya Bwana, yanyoosheni mapito yake.
as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths!
5 Kila bonde litajazwa, kila mlima na kilima vitashushwa. Njia zilizopinda zitanyooshwa, na zilizoparuza zitasawazishwa.
Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the crooked places shall be made straight, and the rough ways smooth;
6 Nao watu wote watauona wokovu wa Mungu.’”
and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”
7 Yohana akauambia ule umati wa watu uliokuwa unakuja ili kubatizwa naye, “Ninyi watoto wa nyoka! Ni nani aliyewaonya kuikimbia ghadhabu inayokuja?
He said therefore to the multitudes that came forth to be baptized by him, Brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
8 Basi zaeni matunda yastahiliyo toba. Wala msianze kusema mioyoni mwenu kuwa, ‘Sisi tunaye Abrahamu, baba yetu.’ Kwa maana nawaambia kuwa Mungu anaweza kumwinulia Abrahamu watoto kutoka mawe haya.
Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance; and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that God is able out of these stones to raise up children to Abraham.
9 Hata sasa shoka limeshawekwa tayari kwenye shina la kila mti. Basi kila mti usiozaa matunda mazuri hukatwa na kutupwa motoni.”
And already also is the axe lying at the root of the trees; every tree therefore that beareth not good fruit is to be cut down, and cast into the fire.
10 Ule umati wa watu ukamuuliza, “Inatupasa tufanyeje basi?”
And the multitudes asked him, saying, What then must we do?
11 Yohana akawaambia, “Aliye na kanzu mbili amgawie asiye nayo, naye aliye na chakula na afanye vivyo hivyo.”
He answered and said to them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath food, let him do likewise.
12 Watoza ushuru nao wakaja ili wabatizwe, wakamuuliza, “Bwana na sisi inatupasa tufanyeje?”
And there came also publicans to be baptized, and said to him, Teacher, what must we do?
13 Akawaambia, “Msichukue zaidi ya kiwango mlichopangiwa.”
And he said to them, Exact no more than hath been ordered you.
14 Askari nao wakamuuliza, “Je, nasi inatupasa tufanye nini?” Akawaambia, “Msimdhulumu mtu wala msimshtaki mtu kwa uongo, bali mridhike na mishahara yenu.”
And soldiers also asked him, saying, And what must we do? And he said to them, Do violence to no one, accuse no one falsely, and be content with your wages.
15 Watu walikuwa na matazamio makubwa. Wakawa wanajiuliza mioyoni mwao iwapo Yohana angeweza kuwa ndiye Kristo.
And while the people were in expectation, and all were considering in their hearts concerning John, whether he were the Christ,
16 Yohana akawajibu akawaambia, “Mimi nawabatiza kwa maji. Lakini atakuja aliye na nguvu kuniliko mimi, ambaye sistahili hata kufungua kamba za viatu vyake. Yeye atawabatiza kwa Roho Mtakatifu na kwa moto.
John answered and said to them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but he who is mightier than I is coming, the latchet of whose sandals I am not worthy to loose; he will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire.
17 Pepeto lake liko mkononi, tayari kusafisha sakafu yake ya kupuria na kuikusanya ngano ghalani, lakini makapi atayateketeza kwa moto usiozimika.”
His winnowing-shovel is in his hand to thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor, and gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.
18 Basi, kwa maonyo mengine mengi Yohana aliwasihi na kuwahubiria watu Habari Njema.
And giving many other exhortations he published the glad tidings to the people.
19 Lakini Yohana alipomkemea Mfalme Herode kuhusu uhusiano wake na Herodia, mke wa ndugu yake, na maovu mengine aliyokuwa amefanya,
But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him on account of Herodias the wife of his brother, and on account of all the evil deeds which Herod had done,
20 Herode aliongezea jambo hili kwa hayo mengine yote: alimfunga Yohana gerezani.
added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison.
21 Baada ya watu wote kubatizwa, Yesu naye akabatizwa. Naye alipokuwa akiomba, mbingu zilifunguka.
And it came to pass, when all the people had been baptized, and Jesus also had been baptized, and was praying, that the heaven was opened,
22 Roho Mtakatifu akashuka juu yake kwa umbo kama la hua, nayo sauti kutoka mbinguni ikasema: “Wewe ni Mwanangu mpendwa; nami nimependezwa nawe sana.”
and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in a bodily shape as a dove; and a voice came from heaven: “Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased.”
23 Yesu alikuwa na umri wa miaka thelathini alipoanza huduma yake. Alikuwa akidhaniwa kuwa mwana wa Yosefu, Yosefu alikuwa mwana wa Eli,
And Jesus himself was, when he began, about thirty years of age, being, as was supposed, the son of Joseph, who was the son of Heli,
24 Eli alikuwa mwana wa Mathati, Mathati alikuwa mwana wa Lawi, Lawi alikuwa mwana wa Melki, Melki alikuwa mwana wa Yanai, Yanai alikuwa mwana wa Yosefu,
who was the son of Matthath, who was the son of Levi, who was the son of Melchi, who was the son of Jannai, who was the son of Joseph,
25 Yosefu alikuwa mwana wa Matathia, Matathia alikuwa mwana wa Amosi, Amosi alikuwa mwana wa Nahumu, Nahumu alikuwa mwana wa Esli, Esli alikuwa mwana wa Nagai,
who was the son of Mattathias, who was the son of Amos, who was the son of Nahum, who was the son of Esli, who was the son of Naggai,
26 Nagai alikuwa mwana wa Maathi, Maathi alikuwa mwana wa Matathia, Matathia alikuwa mwana wa Semeini, Semeini alikuwa mwana wa Yoseki, Yoseki alikuwa mwana wa Yoda,
who was the son of Maath, who was the son of Mattathias, who was the son of Shimei, who was the son of Josech, who was the son of Joda,
27 Yoda alikuwa mwana wa Yoanani, Yoanani alikuwa mwana wa Resa, Resa alikuwa mwana wa Zerubabeli, Zerubabeli alikuwa mwana wa Shealtieli, Shealtieli alikuwa mwana wa Neri,
who was the son of Joanan, who was the son of Rhesa, who was the son of Zerubbabel, who was the son of Shealtiel, who was the son of Neri,
28 Neri alikuwa mwana wa Melki, Melki alikuwa mwana wa Adi, Adi alikuwa mwana wa Kosamu, Kosamu alikuwa mwana wa Elmadamu, Elmadamu alikuwa mwana wa Eri,
who was the son of Melchi, who was the son of Addi, who was the son of Kosam, who was the son of Elmadam, who was the son of Er,
29 Eri alikuwa mwana wa Yoshua, Yoshua alikuwa mwana wa Eliezeri, Eliezeri alikuwa mwana wa Yorimu, Yorimu alikuwa mwana wa Mathati, Mathati alikuwa mwana wa Lawi,
who was the son of Jesus, who was the son of Eliezer, who was the son of Jorim, who was the son of Matthath, who was the son of Levi,
30 Lawi alikuwa mwana wa Simeoni, Simeoni alikuwa mwana wa Yuda, Yuda alikuwa mwana wa Yosefu, Yosefu alikuwa mwana wa Yonamu, Yonamu alikuwa mwana wa Eliakimu, Eliakimu alikuwa mwana wa Melea,
who was the son of Simeon, who was the son of Judah, who was the son of Joseph, who was the son of Jonam, who was the son of Eliakim,
31 Melea alikuwa mwana wa Mena, Mena alikuwa mwana wa Matatha, Matatha alikuwa mwana wa Nathani, Nathani alikuwa mwana wa Daudi,
who was the son of Melea, who was the son of Menna, who was the son of Mattatha, who was the son of Nathan, who was the son of David,
32 Daudi alikuwa mwana wa Yese, Yese alikuwa mwana wa Obedi, Obedi alikuwa mwana wa Boazi, Boazi alikuwa mwana wa Salmoni, Salmoni alikuwa mwana wa Nashoni,
who was the son of Jesse, who was the son of Obed, who was the son of Boaz, who was the son of Salma, who was the son of Nahshon,
33 Nashoni alikuwa mwana wa Aminadabu, Aminadabu alikuwa mwana wa Aramu, Aramu alikuwa mwana wa Hesroni, Hesroni alikuwa mwana wa Peresi, Peresi alikuwa mwana wa Yuda,
who was the son of Amminadab, who was the son of Admin, who was the son of Arni, who was the son of Hezron, who was the son of Pharez, who was the son of Judah,
34 Yuda alikuwa mwana wa Yakobo, Yakobo alikuwa mwana wa Isaki, Isaki alikuwa mwana wa Abrahamu, Abrahamu alikuwa mwana wa Tera, Tera alikuwa mwana wa Nahori,
who was the son of Jacob, who was the son of Isaac, who was the son of Abraham, who was the son of Terah, who was the son of Nahor,
35 Nahori alikuwa mwana wa Serugi, Serugi alikuwa mwana wa Reu, Reu alikuwa mwana wa Pelegi, Pelegi alikuwa mwana wa Eberi, Eberi alikuwa mwana wa Sala,
who was the son of Serug, who was the son of Reu, who was the son of Peleg, who was the son of Eber, who was the son of Shelah,
36 Sala alikuwa mwana wa Kenani, Kenani alikuwa mwana wa Arfaksadi, Arfaksadi alikuwa mwana wa Shemu, Shemu alikuwa mwana wa Noa, Noa alikuwa mwana wa Lameki,
who was the son of Cainan, who was the son of Arphaxad, who was the son of Shem, who was the son of Noah, who was the son of Lamech,
37 Lameki alikuwa mwana wa Methusela, Methusela alikuwa mwana wa Enoki, Enoki alikuwa mwana wa Yaredi, Yaredi alikuwa mwana wa Mahalaleli, Mahalaleli alikuwa mwana wa Kenani,
who was the son of Methuselah, who was the son of Enoch, who was the son of Jared, who was the son of Mahalaleel, who was the son of Cainan,
38 Kenani alikuwa mwana wa Enoshi, Enoshi alikuwa mwana wa Sethi, Sethi alikuwa mwana wa Adamu, Adamu alikuwa mwana wa Mungu.
who was the son of Enos, who was the son of Seth, who was the son of Adam, who was the son of God.
