1 Kumbuka, Ee Bwana, yaliyotupata, tazama, nawe uione aibu yetu.
Remember, O YHWH, what has befallen us, Look attentively, and see our reproach.
2 Urithi wetu umegeuziwa kwa wageni, na nyumba zetu kwa wageni.
Our inheritance has been turned to strangers, Our houses to foreigners.
3 Tumekuwa yatima wasio na baba, mama zetu wamekuwa kama wajane.
Orphans we have been—without a father, our mothers [are] as widows.
4 Ni lazima tununue maji tunayokunywa, kuni zetu zapatikana tu kwa kununua.
We have drunk our water for money, Our wood comes for a price.
5 Wanaotufuatilia wapo kwenye visigino vyetu, tumechoka na hakuna pumziko.
For our neck we have been pursued, We have labored—there has been no rest for us.
6 Tumejitolea kwa Misri na Ashuru tupate chakula cha kutosha.
[To] Egypt we have given a hand, [To] Asshur, to be satisfied with bread.
7 Baba zetu walitenda dhambi na hawapo tena, na sisi tunachukua adhabu yao.
Our fathers have sinned—they are not, We have borne their iniquities.
8 Watumwa wanatutawala na hakuna wa kutuokoa mikononi yao.
Servants have ruled over us, There is no deliverer from their hand.
9 Tunapata chakula chetu kwa kuhatarisha maisha yetu kwa sababu ya upanga jangwani.
With our lives we bring in our bread, Because of the sword of the wilderness.
10 Ngozi yetu ina joto kama tanuru, kwa sababu ya fadhaa itokanayo na njaa.
Our skin as an oven has been burning, Because of the raging of the famine.
11 Wanawake wametendwa jeuri katika Sayuni, na mabikira katika miji ya Yuda.
Wives in Zion they have humbled, Virgins—in cities of Judah.
12 Wakuu wametungikwa juu kwa mikono yao, wazee hawapewi heshima.
Princes have been hanged by their hand, Elderly faces have not been honored.
13 Vijana wanataabika kwenye mawe ya kusagia, wavulana wanayumbayumba chini ya mizigo ya kuni.
They have taken young men to grind, And youths have stumbled with wood.
14 Wazee wameondoka langoni la mji, vijana wameacha kuimba nyimbo zao.
Elderly have ceased from the gate, Young men from their song.
15 Furaha imeondoka mioyoni mwetu, kucheza kwetu kumegeuka maombolezo.
The joy of our heart has ceased, Our dancing has been turned to mourning.
16 Taji imeanguka kutoka kichwani petu. Ole wetu, kwa maana tumetenda dhambi!
The crown has fallen [from] our head, Woe [is] now to us, for we have sinned.
17 Kwa sababu hiyo, mioyo yetu inazimia, kwa sababu ya hayo, macho yetu yamefifia,
Our heart has been sick for this, Our eyes have been dim for these.
18 kwa ajili ya Mlima Sayuni, ambao unakaa ukiwa, nao mbweha wanatembea juu yake.
For the Mount of Zion—that is desolate, Foxes have gone up on it.
19 Wewe, Ee Bwana unatawala milele, kiti chako cha enzi chadumu kizazi hadi kizazi.
You, O YHWH, remain for all time, Your throne to generation and generation.
20 Kwa nini watusahau siku zote? Kwa nini umetuacha kwa muda mrefu?
Why do You forget us forever? You forsake us for [the] length of [our] days!
21 Turudishe kwako mwenyewe, Ee Bwana, ili tupate kurudi. Zifanye mpya siku zetu kama siku za kale,
Turn us back, O YHWH, to You, And we turn back, renew our days as of old.
22 isipokuwa uwe umetukataa kabisa na umetukasirikia pasipo kipimo.
For have You utterly rejected us? You have been angry against us—exceedingly?
