1 Uwe mwangalifu kufuata kila agizo ninalokupa wewe leo, ili mweze kuishi, kuongezeka na mweze kuingia mkamiliki nchi ambayo Bwana aliahidi kwa kiapo kwa baba zenu.
Every commandment which I command thee this day shall ye take heed to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and enter in and possess the land which Jehovah swore unto your fathers.
2 Kumbuka jinsi Bwana Mungu wenu alivyowaongoza katika njia yote katika jangwa kwa miaka hii arobaini, kukunyenyekeza na kukujaribu ili ajue lililoko moyoni mwako, kwamba utayashika maagizo yake au la.
And thou shalt remember all the way which Jehovah thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thy heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments or not.
3 Alikudhili na kukufanya uone njaa kisha akulishe kwa mana, ambayo wewe wala baba zako hamkuijua, awafundishe kuwa mwanadamu hataishi kwa mkate tu bali kwa kila neno litokalo katika kinywa cha Bwana.
And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with the manna, which thou hadst not known, and which thy fathers knew not; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread alone, but by everything that goeth out of the mouth of Jehovah doth man live.
4 Nguo zenu hazikuchakaa wala miguu yenu haikuvimba kwa miaka hii arobaini.
Thy clothing grew not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.
5 Mjue basi ndani ya mioyo yenu kama mtu anavyomwadibisha mwanawe, ndivyo Bwana Mungu wako atawaadibisha ninyi.
And know in thy heart that, as a man chasteneth his son, so Jehovah thy God chasteneth thee;
6 Shikeni maagizo ya Bwana Mungu wenu mtembee katika njia zake na kumheshimu.
and thou shalt keep the commandments of Jehovah thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.
7 Kwa kuwa Bwana Mungu wenu anawaleta katika nchi nzuri, nchi yenye vijito na mabwawa ya maji, yenye chemchemi zinazotiririka mabondeni na katika vilima;
For Jehovah thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of water-brooks, of springs, and of deep waters, that gush forth in the valleys and hills;
8 nchi yenye ngano na shayiri, mizabibu na mitini, mikomamanga, mafuta ya zeituni na asali;
a land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig-trees, and pomegranates; a land of olive-trees and honey;
9 nchi ambayo chakula hakitapungua na hamtakosa chochote; nchi ambayo miamba yake ni chuma na mnaweza kuchimba shaba kutoka kwenye vilima.
a land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, where thou shalt lack nothing; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose mountains thou wilt dig copper.
10 Wakati mtakapokwisha kula na kushiba, msifuni Bwana Mungu wenu kwa ajili ya nchi nzuri aliyowapa.
And thou shalt eat and be filled, and shalt bless Jehovah thy God for the good land which he hath given thee.
11 Jihadharini msimsahau Bwana Mungu wenu, mkashindwa kushika maagizo yake, sheria na amri zake ambazo ninawapa leo.
Beware that thou forget not Jehovah thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his ordinances, and his statutes, which I command thee this day;
12 Angalia wakati mtakapokuwa mmekula na kushiba, mkajenga nyumba nzuri na kukaa humo,
lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built and inhabited fine houses,
13 na wakati makundi yenu ya ngʼombe na mbuzi na kondoo yatakapoongezeka na fedha na dhahabu yenu itakapoongezeka na vyote mlivyo navyo vitakapozidishwa,
and thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied,
14 basi mioyo yenu isiwe na kiburi mkamsahau Bwana Mungu wenu aliyewatoa katika nchi ya Misri, kutoka nchi ya utumwa.
then thy heart be lifted up, and thou forget Jehovah thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;
15 Aliwaongoza kupitia jangwa lile kubwa na la kutisha, nchi ile ya kiu isiyo na maji, yenye nyoka wa sumu na nge. Aliwatolea maji kutoka kwenye mwamba mgumu.
who led thee through the great and terrible wilderness, [a wilderness of] fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there is no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;
16 Aliwapa mana ya kula jangwani, kitu ambacho baba zenu hawakukijua, ili kuwanyenyekesha na kuwajaribu ninyi ili mwishoni apate kuwatendea mema.
who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;
17 Mnaweza kusema, “Uwezo wangu na nguvu za mikono yangu ndizo zilizonipatia utajiri huu.”
— and thou say in thy heart, My power and the might of my hand has procured me this wealth.
18 Lakini kumbukeni Bwana Mungu wenu, ndiye ambaye huwapa uwezo wa kupata utajiri, na hivyo kulithibitisha Agano lake, ambalo aliwaapia baba zenu, kama ilivyo leo.
But thou shalt remember Jehovah thy God, that it is he who giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
19 Ikiwa mtamsahau Bwana Mungu wenu, mkaifuata miungu mingine, mkaiabudu na kuisujudia, ninashuhudia dhidi yenu leo kwamba hakika mtaangamizwa.
And it shall be, if thou do at all forget Jehovah thy God, and go after other gods, and serve them, and bow down to them, I testify against you this day that ye shall utterly perish.
20 Kama mataifa Bwana aliyoyaangamiza mbele yenu, ndivyo ninyi mtakavyoangamizwa kwa kutokumtii Bwana Mungu wenu.
As the nations which Jehovah is causing to perish before you, so shall ye perish; because ye would not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah your God.
