1 Kisha tukageuka nyuma na kusafiri kuelekea jangwani kwa njia inayoelekea Bahari ya Shamu, kama Bwana alivyonielekeza. Kwa muda mrefu tulitembea kuzunguka vilima katika nchi ya Seiri.
Then we turned, and tooke our iourney into the wildernes, by the way of the red Sea, as the Lord spake vnto me: and we compassed mount Seir a long time.
2 Kisha Bwana akaniambia,
And the Lord spake vnto me, saying,
3 “Umetembea kuzunguka hii nchi ya vilima kwa muda wa kutosha; sasa geukia kaskazini.
Ye haue compassed this mountaine long ynough: turne you Northward.
4 Wape watu maagizo haya: ‘Mko karibu kupita katikati ya nchi ya ndugu zako ambao ni wazao wa Esau, ambao wanaishi Seiri. Watawaogopa, lakini mwe waangalifu.
And warne thou the people, saying, Ye shall go through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir, and they shall be afraide of you: take ye good heede therefore.
5 Msiwachokoze kwa vita kwa maana sitawapa ninyi sehemu yoyote ya nchi yao, hata sehemu ya kutosha kuweka wayo wenu juu yake. Nimempa Esau nchi ya vilima ya Seiri kama yake mwenyewe.
Ye shall not prouoke them: for I wil not giue you of their land so much as a foot breadth, because I haue giuen mount Seir vnto Esau for a possession.
6 Mtawalipa fedha kwa chakula mtakachokula na maji mtakayokunywa.’”
Ye shall buy meate of them for money to eate, and ye shall also procure water of them for money to drinke.
7 Bwana Mungu wenu amewabariki kwa kazi yote ya mikono yenu. Amewalinda katika safari yenu katikati ya jangwa hili kubwa. Kwa miaka hii arobaini Bwana Mungu wenu amekuwa pamoja nanyi, na hamkupungukiwa na kitu chochote.
For the Lord thy God hath blessed thee in all the workes of thine hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wildernes, and the Lord thy God hath bene with thee this fourtie yeere, and thou hast lacked nothing.
8 Basi tulipita kwa ndugu zetu wazao wa Esau ambao wanaishi Seiri. Tuligeuka kutoka njia ya Araba ambayo inatokea Elathi na Esion-Geberi, tukasafiri kufuata njia ya jangwa la Moabu.
And when we were departed from our brethren the children of Esau which dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plaine, from Elath, and from Ezion-gaber, we turned and went by the way of the wildernes of Moab.
9 Kisha Bwana akaniambia, “Usiwasumbue Wamoabu kwa vita, kwa kuwa sitawapa sehemu yoyote ya nchi yao. Nimetoa nchi ya Ari kwa wazao wa Loti kama milki yao.”
Then the Lord sayd vnto me, Thou shalt not vexe Moab, neither prouoke them to battel: for I wil not giue thee of their land for a possession, because I haue giuen Ar vnto the children of Lot for a possession.
10 (Waemi walikuwa wakiishi huko hapo zamani, watu wenye nguvu na wengi, warefu kama Waanaki.
The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great and many, and tall, as the Anakims.
11 Kama walivyokuwa Waanaki, hao pia walikuwa kama Warefai, lakini Wamoabu waliwaita Waemi.
They also were taken for gyants as the Anakims: whom the Moabites call Emims.
12 Wahori waliishi Seiri, lakini wazao wa Esau waliwafukuza. Waliwaangamiza Wahori na kukaa mahali pao, kama Waisraeli walivyofanya katika nchi ambayo Bwana aliwapa kama milki yao.)
The Horims also dwelt in Seir before time, whome the children of Esau chased out and destroyed them before them, and dwelt in their steade: as Israel shall doe vnto the land of his possession, which the Lord hath giuen them.
13 Bwana akasema, “Sasa ondokeni mvuke Bonde la Zeredi.” Hivyo tukavuka bonde.
Now rise vp, sayd I, and get you ouer the riuer Zered: and we went ouer the riuer Zered.
14 Miaka thelathini na minane ilipita tangu wakati tulipoondoka Kadesh-Barnea mpaka tulipovuka Bonde la Zeredi. Kwa wakati huo kile kizazi chote cha wanaume kuanzia wale wawezao kwenda vitani kilikuwa kimekufa, kama Bwana alivyokuwa amewaapia.
The space also wherein we came from Kadesh-barnea, vntill we were come ouer the riuer Zered, was eight and thirtie yeeres, vntill all the generation of the men of warre were wasted out from among the hoste, as the Lord sware vnto them.
15 Mkono wa Bwana uliwakabili hadi alipowaangamiza wote huko kambini.
For in deede the hand of the Lord was against them, to destroy them from among the hoste, till they were consumed.
16 Ikawa baada ya mtu wa mwisho kuanzia wale wawezao kwenda vitani kufa,
So when all the men of warre were consumed and dead from among the people:
17 Bwana akaniambia,
Then the Lord spake vnto me, saying,
18 “Leo utapita katika nchi ya Moabu huko Ari.
Thou shalt goe through Ar the coast of Moab this day:
19 Utakapokuja kwa Waamoni, msiwasumbue wala kuwachokoza kwa vita, kwa kuwa sitawapa ardhi yoyote iliyo ya Waamoni kuwa milki yenu. Nimeitoa kama milki ya wazao wa Loti.”
And thou shalt come neere ouer against the children of Ammon: but shalt not lay siege vnto them, nor moue warre against them: for I will not giue thee of the land of the children of Ammon any possession: for I haue giuen it vnto the children of Lot for a possession.
20 (Hiyo pia ilidhaniwa kuwa nchi ya Warefai waliokuwa wakiishi huko, lakini Waamoni waliwaita Wazamzumi.
That also was taken for a land of gyants: for gyants dwelt therein afore time, whome the Ammonites called Zamzummims:
21 Walikuwa watu wenye nguvu na wengi, warefu kama Waanaki. Bwana akawaangamiza kutoka mbele ya Waamoni, ambao waliwafukuza na kukaa mahali pao.
A people that was great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims: but the Lord destroyed them before them, and they succeeded them in their inheritance, and dwelt in their stead:
22 Bwana alikuwa amefanya vivyo hivyo kwa wazao wa Esau, ambao waliishi Seiri, wakati alipowaangamiza Wahori watoke mbele yao. Waliwafukuza na wao wakaishi mahali pao mpaka leo.
As he did to the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, when he destroyed the Horims before them, and they possessed them, and dwelt in their stead vnto this day.
23 Nao Waavi ambao waliishi katika vijiji mpaka Gaza, Wakaftori waliokuja kutoka Kaftori waliwaangamiza na kukaa mahali pao.)
And the Auims which dwelt in Hazarim euen vnto Azzah, the Caphtorims which came out of Caphtor destroyed them, and dwelt in their steade.
24 “Ondoka sasa na uvuke Bonde la Arnoni. Tazama, nimemweka mikononi mwako Sihoni Mwamori, mfalme wa Heshboni na nchi yake. Anza kuimiliki nchi hiyo na umwingize katika vita.
Rise vp therefore, sayd the Lord: take your iourney, and passe ouer the riuer Arnon: beholde, I haue giuen into thy hand Sihon, the Amorite, King of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possesse it and prouoke him to battell.
25 Siku hii ya leo nitaanza kuwatia hofu na woga mataifa yote chini ya mbingu wawaogope ninyi. Watakaposikia taarifa zenu, watatetemeka na kufadhaika kwa sababu yenu.”
This day wil I begin to send thy feare and thy dread, vpon all people vnder the whole heauen, which shall heare thy fame, and shall tremble and quake before thee.
26 Kutoka jangwa la Kedemothi nilituma wajumbe wenye maneno ya amani kwa Sihoni mfalme wa Heshboni kusema,
Then I sent messengers out of the wildernes of Kedemoth vnto Sihon King of Heshbon, with wordes of peace, saying,
27 “Turuhusu tupite katika nchi yako. Tutapita katika barabara kuu, hatutageuka kuume wala kushoto.
Let me passe through thy land: I will go by the hie way: I will neither turne vnto the right hand nor to the left.
28 Tuuzie chakula tule na maji tunywe kwa thamani yake katika fedha. Turuhusu tu tupite kwa miguu,
Thou shalt sell me meate for money, for to eate, and shalt giue me water for money for to drinke: onely I will go through on my foote,
29 kama wazao wa Esau ambao wanaishi Seiri na Wamoabu ambao wanaishi Ari walivyotufanyia, mpaka tuvuke Yordani kuingia nchi ambayo Bwana Mungu wetu anatupatia.”
(As the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which dwell in Ar, did vnto me) vntill I be come ouer Iorden, into the land which the Lord our God giueth vs.
30 Lakini Sihoni mfalme wa Heshboni alikataa kuturuhusu kupita. Kwa kuwa Bwana Mungu wako alikuwa ameifanya roho yake kuwa ngumu na moyo wake kuwa mkaidi ili amweke kwenye mikono yenu, kama alivyofanya sasa.
But Sihon the King of Heshbon would not let vs passe by him: for the Lord thy God had hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, because hee would deliuer him into thine hand, as appeareth this day.
31 Bwana akaniambia, “Tazama, nimeanza kuwapa Mfalme Sihoni na nchi yake kwako. Sasa anzeni kuishinda na kuimiliki nchi yake.”
And the Lord sayd vnto me, Beholde, I haue begun to giue Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possesse and inherite his land.
32 Wakati Sihoni pamoja na jeshi lake lote walipokuja kukutana nasi katika vita huko Yahazi,
Then came out Sihon to meete vs, him selfe with all his people to fight at Iahaz.
33 Bwana Mungu wetu alimweka mikononi mwetu, nasi tukamwangamiza pamoja na wanawe na jeshi lake lote.
But the Lord our God deliuered him into our power, and we smote him, and his sonnes, and all his people.
34 Kwa wakati ule tuliteka miji yake yote na kuiangamiza kabisa: wanaume, wanawake na watoto. Hatukumwacha yeyote.
And we tooke all his cities the same time, and destroyed euery citie, men, and women, and children: we let nothing remaine.
35 Lakini mifugo na nyara tulizoziteka kutoka ile miji tulijichukulia wenyewe.
Onely the cattell we tooke to our selues, and the spoyle of the cities which we tooke,
36 Kutoka Aroeri kwenye ukingo wa Bonde la Arnoni, kutoka mji ulio ndani ya bonde, hata mpaka Gileadi, hapakuwa na mji hata mmoja uliokuwa na nguvu kutushinda. Bwana Mungu wetu alitupa yote.
From Aroer, which is by the banke of the riuer of Arnon, and from the citie that is vpon the riuer, euen vnto Gilead: there was not one citie that escaped vs: for the Lord our God deliuered vp all before vs.
37 Lakini kulingana na amri ya Bwana Mungu wetu, hamkujiingiza katika nchi yoyote ya Waamoni, wala katika sehemu yoyote iliyo kandokando ya Mto Yaboki, wala katika miji iliyoko katika vilima.
Onely vnto the land of the children of Ammon thou camest not, nor vnto any place of the riuer Iabbok, nor vnto the cities in the mountaines, nor vnto whatsoeuer the Lord our God forbade vs.
