Matendo 5
1 Lakini mtu mmoja jina lake Anania pamoja na mkewe Safira waliuza kiwanja.
And a certain man, Ananias by name, with his wife Sapphira, sold a possession,
2 Huku mkewe akijua kikamilifu, Anania alificha sehemu ya fedha alizopata, akaleta kiasi kilichobaki na kukiweka miguuni pa mitume.
and kept back of the price—his wife also knowing—and having brought a certain part, he laid [it] at the feet of the apostles.
3 Petro akamuuliza, “Anania, mbona Shetani ameujaza moyo wako ili kumwambia uongo Roho Mtakatifu, ukaficha sehemu ya fedha ulizopata kutokana na kiwanja?
And Peter said, “Ananias, why did Satan fill your heart, for you to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back of the price of the place?
4 Je, kabla hujauza hicho kiwanja si kilikuwa mali yako? Hata baada ya kukiuza, fedha ulizopata si zilikuwa kwenye uwezo wako? Kwa nini basi umewaza hila hii moyoni mwako kufanya jambo kama hili? Wewe hukumwambia uongo mwanadamu bali Mungu.”
While it remained, did it not remain yours? And having been sold, was it not in your authority? Why [is] it that you put this thing in your heart? You did not lie to men, but to God”;
5 Anania aliposikia maneno haya akaanguka chini na kufa. Hofu kuu ikawapata wote waliosikia jambo lililokuwa limetukia.
and Ananias hearing these words, having fallen down, expired, and great fear came on all who heard these things,
6 Vijana wakaja, wakaufunga mwili wake sanda, wakamchukua nje kumzika.
and having risen, the younger men wound him up, and having carried forth, they buried [him].
7 Saa tatu baadaye mkewe Anania akaingia, naye hana habari ya mambo yaliyotukia.
And it came to pass, about three hours after, that his wife, not knowing what has happened, came in,
8 Petro akamuuliza, “Niambie, je, mliuza kiwanja kwa thamani hii?” Akajibu, “Ndiyo, tuliuza kwa thamani hiyo.”
and Peter answered her, “Tell me if for so much you sold the place”; and she said, “Yes, for so much.”
9 Ndipo Petro akamwambia, “Imekuwaje mkakubaliana kumjaribu Roho wa Bwana? Tazama! Nyayo za vijana waliomzika mumeo ziko mlangoni, wewe nawe watakuchukua nje.”
And Peter said to her, “How was it agreed by you to tempt the Spirit of the LORD? Behold, the feet of those who buried your husband [are] at the door, and they will carry you forth”;
10 Saa ile ile akaanguka chini miguuni mwake na kufa. Nao wale vijana wakaingia, wakamkuta amekufa, wakamchukua wakamzika kando ya mumewe.
and immediately she fell down at his feet, and expired, and the young men having come in, found her dead, and having carried forth, they buried [her] by her husband;
11 Hofu kuu ikalipata kanisa lote pamoja na watu wote waliosikia juu ya matukio haya.
and great fear came on all the Assembly, and on all who heard these things.
12 Mitume wakafanya ishara nyingi na miujiza miongoni mwa watu. Walioamini wote walikuwa wakikusanyika katika ukumbi wa Solomoni.
And through the hands of the apostles came many signs and wonders among the people, and they were all with one accord in the porch of Solomon;
13 Hakuna mtu mwingine aliyethubutu kuambatana nao ijapokuwa waliheshimiwa sana na watu.
and of the rest no one was daring to join himself to them, but the people were magnifying them,
14 Hata hivyo, waliomwamini Bwana wakazidi kuongezeka, wanaume na wanawake.
(and the more were believers added to the LORD, multitudes of both men and women),
15 Hata wakawa wanawaleta wagonjwa na kuwalaza kwenye magodoro na kwenye vitanda barabarani ili yamkini Petro akipita kivuli chake kiwaguse baadhi yao.
so as to bring forth the ailing into the broad places, and to lay [them] on beds and pallets, that at the coming of Peter, even [his] shadow might overshadow someone of them;
16 Pia watu wakakusanyika kutoka miji iliyokuwa karibu na Yerusalemu, wakileta wagonjwa na watu walioteswa na pepo wachafu. Hao wote wakaponywa.
and there were also coming together the people of the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, carrying ailing persons, and those harassed by unclean spirits—who were all healed.
17 Kisha kuhani mkuu na wenzake wote waliokuwa pamoja naye, waliokuwa wa kundi la Masadukayo, wakajawa na wivu.
And having risen, the chief priest, and all those with him—being the sect of the Sadducees—were filled with zeal,
18 Wakawakamata mitume na kuwatia gerezani.
and laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in a public prison;
19 Lakini wakati wa usiku, malaika wa Bwana akaja, akafungua milango ya gereza na akawatoa nje. Akawaambia,
but through the night a messenger of the LORD opened the doors of the prison, having also brought them forth, he said,
20 “Nendeni, mkasimame Hekaluni mkawaambie watu maneno yote ya uzima huu mpya.”
“Go on, and standing, speak in the temple to the people all the sayings of this life”;
21 Waliposikia haya wakaenda Hekaluni alfajiri wakaendelea kufundisha watu. Kuhani mkuu na wale waliokuwa pamoja nao walipowasili, alikusanya baraza na wazee wote wa Israeli wakatuma wale mitume waletwe kutoka gerezani.
and having heard, they entered into the temple at the dawn, and were teaching. And the chief priest having come, and those with him, they called together the Sanhedrin and all the Senate of the sons of Israel, and they sent to the prison to have them brought,
22 Lakini wale walinzi wa Hekalu walipokwenda gerezani hawakuwakuta mitume mle. Kwa hiyo wakarudi na kutoa habari.
and the officers having come, did not find them in the prison, and having turned back, they told,
23 Wakasema, “Tumekuta milango ya gereza imefungwa sawasawa na askari wa gereza wamesimama nje ya mlango, lakini tulipofungua milango hakuwepo mtu yeyote ndani.”
saying, “We indeed found the prison shut in all safety, and the keepers standing outside before the doors, and having opened—we found no one within.”
24 Basi mkuu wa walinzi wa Hekalu na viongozi wa makuhani waliposikia haya, wakafadhaika na kushangaa sana kwa ajili yao kwamba jambo hili litakuwaje.
And as the priest, and the magistrate of the temple, and the chief priests, heard these words, they were doubting concerning them to what this would come;
25 Ndipo mtu mmoja akaja akawaambia, “Tazameni watu mliowatia gerezani wako Hekaluni wakiwafundisha watu.”
and coming near, a certain one told them, saying, “Behold, the men whom you put in the prison are in the temple standing and teaching the people”;
26 Ndipo yule mkuu wa walinzi wa Hekalu wakaenda pamoja na askari wakawaleta wale mitume, lakini bila ghasia kwa sababu waliogopa kupigwa mawe na watu.
then the magistrate having gone away with officers, brought them without violence, for they were fearing the people, lest they should be stoned;
27 Wakiisha kuwaleta mitume wakawaamuru kusimama mbele ya baraza ili kuhani mkuu awahoji.
and having brought them, they set [them] in the Sanhedrin, and the chief priest questioned them,
28 “Tuliwaonya kwa nguvu msifundishe kwa jina hili, lakini ninyi mmeijaza Yerusalemu yote mafundisho yenu na tena mmekusudia kuleta damu ya mtu huyu juu yetu.”
saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this Name? And behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring on us the blood of this Man.”
29 Petro na wale mitume wengine wakajibu, “Imetupasa kumtii Mungu kuliko wanadamu.
And Peter and the apostles answering, said, “It is required to obey God, rather than men;
30 Mungu wa baba zetu alimfufua Yesu kutoka kwa wafu, ambaye ninyi mlimuua kwa kumtundika kwenye msalaba.
and the God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you slew, having hanged on a tree;
31 Mungu alimtukuza, akamweka mkono wake wa kuume kuwa Kiongozi na Mwokozi ili awape Israeli toba na msamaha wa dhambi.
this One, God, a Prince and a Savior, has exalted with His right hand, to give conversion to Israel, and forgiveness of sins;
32 Nasi tu mashahidi wa mambo haya, vivyo hivyo na Roho Mtakatifu ambaye Mungu amewapa wale wanaomtii.”
and we are His witnesses of these sayings, and the Holy Spirit also, whom God gave to those obeying Him.”
33 Wale wajumbe wa baraza la wazee waliposikia haya, walijawa na ghadhabu, wakataka kuwaua mitume.
And they having heard, were cut [to the heart], and were intending to slay them,
34 Lakini Farisayo mmoja, jina lake Gamalieli, aliyekuwa mwalimu wa sheria, aliyeheshimiwa na watu wote, akasimama mbele ya baraza akaamuru mitume watolewe nje kwa muda.
but a certain one, having risen up in the Sanhedrin—a Pharisee, by name Gamaliel, a teacher of law honored by all the people—commanded to put the apostles forth a little,
35 Ndipo alipowaambia wajumbe wa baraza, “Enyi watu wa Israeli, fikirini kwa uangalifu mnayotaka kuwatendea watu hawa.
and said to them, “Men, Israelites, take heed to yourselves about these men, what you are about to do,
36 Kwa maana wakati uliopita, aliinuka mtu mmoja jina lake Theuda, alijidai kuwa yeye ni mtu maarufu, akapata wafuasi wapatao 400 walioambatana naye. Lakini aliuawa, na wafuasi wake wote wakatawanyika, wakawa si kitu.
for before these days Theudas rose up, saying that he was someone, to whom a number of men joined themselves, as it were four hundred, who was slain, and all, as many as were obeying him, were scattered, and came to nothing.
37 Baada yake, alitokea Yuda Mgalilaya wakati wa kuorodhesha watu, naye akaongoza kundi la watu kuasi. Yeye pia aliuawa, nao wafuasi wake wakatawanyika.
After this one, Judas the Galilean rose up, in the days of the census, and drew away people after him, and that one perished, and all, as many as were obeying him, were scattered;
38 Kwa hiyo, kwa habari ya jambo hili nawashauri, jiepusheni na watu hawa. Waacheni waende zao! Kwa maana kama kusudi lao na shughuli yao imetokana na mwanadamu, haitafanikiwa.
and now I say to you, refrain from these men, and leave them alone, because if this counsel or this work may be of men, it will be overthrown,
39 Lakini ikiwa imetoka kwa Mungu, hamtaweza kuwazuia watu hawa. Badala yake mtajikuta mnapigana na Mungu.”
and if it be of God, you are not able to overthrow it, lest perhaps you are also found fighting against God.”
40 Wakapokea ushauri wa Gamalieli. Wakawaita mitume ndani, wakaamuru wachapwe mijeledi, kisha wakawaagiza wasinene tena kwa jina la Yesu, wakawaachia waende zao.
And to him they agreed, and having called near the apostles, having beaten [them], they commanded [them] not to speak in the Name of Jesus, and let them go;
41 Nao mitume wakatoka nje ya baraza, wakiwa wamejaa furaha kwa sababu wamehesabiwa kustahili kupata aibu kwa ajili ya jina la Yesu.
they, indeed, then, departed from the presence of the Sanhedrin, rejoicing that for His Name they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor,
42 Kila siku, Hekaluni na nyumba kwa nyumba, hawakuacha kufundisha na kuhubiri habari njema kwamba Yesu ndiye Kristo.
also every day in the temple, and in every house, they were not ceasing teaching and proclaiming good news—Jesus the Christ.
