1 Yehoshafati mwanawe akawa mfalme baada yake na akajiimarisha dhidi ya Israeli.
And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, —and strengthened himself against Israel;
2 Akaweka jeshi katika miji yote ya Yuda yenye ngome na kuweka askari walinzi katika Yuda na katika miji ya Efraimu ile ambayo baba yake Asa alikuwa ameiteka.
and put forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, —and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had captured.
3 Bwana Mungu alikuwa na Yehoshafati kwa sababu katika miaka yake ya mwanzoni alienenda katika njia za Daudi baba yake. Hakutafuta Mabaali
And it came to pass, that, Yahweh, was with Jehoshaphat, —because he walked in the first ways of David his father, and sought not unto the Baalim;
4 bali alimtafuta Mungu wa baba yake na kuzifuata amri zake badala ya kufuata desturi za watu wa Israeli.
for, unto the God of his father, he sought, and, in his commandments, he walked, —and not according to the doing of Israel.
5 Kwa hiyo Bwana akauimarisha ufalme chini ya uongozi wake, nao Yuda wote wakamletea Yehoshafati zawadi, hivyo akawa na utajiri mwingi na heshima.
Therefore did Yahweh establish the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah gave a present unto Jehoshaphat, —and he came to have riches and honour, in abundance.
6 Moyo wake ukawa hodari katika njia za Bwana na zaidi ya yote, akaondoa mahali pa juu pa kuabudia miungu na nguzo za Maashera katika Yuda.
And his heart was encouraged, in the ways of Yahweh, —and he, yet further, took away the high places and the Sacred Stems, out of Judah.
7 Katika mwaka wa tatu wa utawala wa akatuma maafisa wake ambao ni: Ben-Haili, Obadia, Zekaria, Nethaneli na Mikaya ili kufundisha katika miji ya Yuda.
And, in the third year of his reign, he sent to his rulers, even to Ben-hail and to Obadiah and to Zechariah, and to Nethanel, and to Micaiah, —that they were to teach throughout the cities of Judah;
8 Pamoja nao walikuwepo Walawi fulani nao ni: Shemaya, Nethania, Zebadia, Asaheli, Shemiramothi, Yehonathani, Adoniya, Tobia, Tob-Adonia, pamoja nao walikuwepo makuhani Elishama na Yehoramu.
and, with them, Levites, Shemaiah and Nethaniah and Zebadiah and Asahel and Shemiramoth and Jehonathan, and Adonijah and Tobijah and Tob-adonijah, Levites, —and, with them, Elishama and Jehoram, priests;
9 Wakafundisha Yuda yote, wakiwa wamechukua Kitabu cha Sheria ya Bwana wakazunguka miji yote ya Yuda na kufundisha watu.
and they taught throughout Judah, and, with them, was the book of the law of Yahweh, —so they went round throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.
10 Hofu ya Bwana ikawa juu ya falme zote za nchi zilizozunguka Yuda, hivyo hawakufanya vita na Yehoshafati.
And it came to pass, that, the dread of Yahweh, was upon all the kingdoms of the countries, that were round about Judah, —and they warred not against Jehoshaphat.
11 Baadhi ya Wafilisti wakamletea Yehoshafati zawadi na fedha kama ushuru, nao Waarabu wakamletea mifugo: kondoo dume 7,700 na mbuzi 7,700.
And, from among the Philistines, were they bringing in unto Jehoshaphat a present, and silver as tribute, —even the Arabians, were bringing in unto him flocks, seven thousand seven hundred rams, and seven thousand seven hundred he-goats.
12 Yehoshafati akaendelea kupata nguvu zaidi na zaidi, akajenga ngome na miji ya hazina katika Yuda
And so it came to pass that, Jehoshaphat, went on waxing surpassingly great, —and he built, throughout Judah, fortresses and cities for store;
13 na akawa na wingi mkubwa wa vitu katika miji ya Yuda. Pia aliweka askari wa vita wenye uzoefu huko Yerusalemu.
and, much business, had he, throughout the cities of Judah, —but, the men of war, the heroes of valour, were in Jerusalem.
14 Wakaandikishwa katika jamaa zao kama ifuatavyo: Kutoka Yuda, majemadari wa vikosi vya elfu: Jemadari Adna akiwa na askari wa vita 300,000;
And, these, are the numbers of them, by their ancestral house, —To Judah, pertained rulers of thousands, Adnah the chief, and, with him, mighty men of valour, three hundred thousand;
15 aliyefuata ni jemadari Yehohanani, akiwa na askari 280,000 walio tayari kwa vita;
and, under his direction, was Jehohanan the chief, —and, with him, two hundred and eighty thousand;
16 aliyefuata ni Amasia mwana wa Zikri, ambaye alijitolea kwa ajili ya kazi ya Bwana, akiwa na askari 200,000.
and, under his direction, Amasiah son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto Yahweh, —and, with him, two hundred thousand heroes of valour.
17 Kutoka Benyamini: Eliada, askari shujaa akiwa na watu 200,000 wenye silaha za nyuta na ngao;
And, out of Benjamin, a hero of valour, Eliada, —and, with him, armed with bow and buckler, two hundred thousand;
18 aliyefuata ni Yehozabadi, akiwa na askari 180,000 wenye silaha za vita.
and, under his direction, Jehozabad, —and, with him, a hundred and eighty thousand, equipped for war.
19 Hawa ndio waliomtumikia mfalme, mbali na wale mfalme aliweka katika miji yenye ngome huko Yuda yote.
These, were they who were waiting upon the king, —besides those whom the king placed in the fortified cities, throughout all Judah.
