1 Ndugu zangu, kwa kuwa ninyi wenyewe mnajua ya kwamba kuja kwetu kwenu hakukuwa bure,
You yourselves for know, brothers, the coming of us to you that not in vain has been;
2 kama vile mjuavyo, tulikuwa tumeteswa na kutukanwa huko Filipi, lakini hata hivyo, kwa msaada wa Mungu wetu, tulikuwa na ujasiri wa kuwaambia Injili ya Mungu ingawa kulikuwa na upinzani mkubwa.
but (and *k*) having previously suffered and having been mistreated even as you know, in Philippi, we had boldness in the God of us to speak to you the gospel of God amid much conflict.
3 Kwa maana himizo letu halikutokana na hila wala nia mbaya au udanganyifu.
For the exhortation of us [is] not of error nor of impurity (nor *N(k)O*) in trickery;
4 Kinyume chake, tulinena kama watu tuliokubaliwa na Mungu tukakabidhiwa Injili. Sisi hatujaribu kuwapendeza wanadamu bali kumpendeza Mungu, yeye ayachunguzaye mawazo ya ndani sana ya mioyo yetu.
but even as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as men pleasing but (*k*) as God who is examining the hearts of us.
5 Kama mjuavyo, hatukuja kwenu kwa maneno ya kujipendekeza au maneno yasiyo ya kweli ili kuficha tamaa mbaya: Mungu ndiye shahidi yetu.
Never for at any time with word of flattery were we, even as you know, nor with a pretext for greed — God [is] witness —
6 Wala hatukuwa tunatafuta sifa kutoka kwa wanadamu, wala kutoka kwenu au kwa mtu mwingine awaye yote. Kama mitume wa Kristo tungaliweza kuwa mzigo kwenu,
nor seeking from men glory nor from you nor from others, [though] having authority with weight to be as Christ’s apostles;
7 lakini tulikuwa wapole katikati yenu, kama mama anayewatunza watoto wake wadogo.
But we were (infants *N(K)O*) in [the] midst of you, as (maybe *N(k)O*) a nursing mother shall cherish her own children,
8 Tuliwapenda sana kiasi kwamba tulifurahia kushirikiana nanyi, si Injili ya Mungu tu, bali hata maisha yetu, kwa sababu mlikuwa wa thamani mno kwetu.
So (yearning for *N(k)O*) you we were pleased to have imparted to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because beloved to us (you have become. *N(k)O*)
9 Ndugu zetu, mnakumbuka juhudi yetu na taabu yetu. Tulifanya kazi usiku na mchana, ili tusimlemee mtu yeyote wa kwenu wakati tulipokuwa tunawahubiria Injili ya Mungu.
You remember for, brothers, the labor of us and hardship: By night (for *k*) and day working in order not to burden anyone of you we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.
10 Ninyi wenyewe ni mashahidi na Mungu pia, jinsi tulivyokuwa watakatifu, wenye haki na wasio na lawama miongoni mwenu ninyi mlioamini.
You [are] witnesses and God, how holily and righteously and blamelessly toward you those believing we were,
11 Maana mnajua kwamba tuliwatendea kila mmoja wenu kama vile baba awatendeavyo watoto wake.
just as you know how one each of you as a father children of himself exhorting you and comforting and (charging *N(k)O*)
12 Tuliwatia moyo, tuliwafariji na kuwahimiza kuishi maisha yampendezayo Mungu, anayewaita katika Ufalme na utukufu wake.
unto (to walk *N(k)O*) you worthily of God who is calling you to the His own kingdom and glory.
13 Nasi pia tunamshukuru Mungu bila kukoma kwa sababu mlipolipokea neno la Mungu mlilosikia kutoka kwetu, hamkulipokea kama neno la wanadamu, bali mlilipokea kama lilivyo hasa, neno la Mungu, litendalo kazi ndani yenu ninyi mnaoamini.
(And *no*) because of this also we ourselves give thanks to God unceasingly that having received [the] word [by your] hearing from us of God you accepted not [the] word of men but even as it is truly [the] word of God, which also works in you who believe.
14 Kwa maana ninyi ndugu zetu, mlifanyika wafuasi wa makanisa ya Mungu yaliyoko ndani ya Kristo Yesu katika Uyahudi. Mlipata mateso yale yale kutoka kwa watu wenu wenyewe kama vile makanisa hayo yalivyoteswa na Wayahudi,
you yourselves for imitators became, brothers, of the churches of God which are being in Judea in Christ Jesus, For (the [same] *N(K)O*) (these *N(k)O*) suffered also you yourselves from [your] own countrymen, even as also [did] they from the Jews,
15 wale waliomuua Bwana Yesu na manabii, nasi wakatufukuza pia. Watu hao walimchukiza Mungu na tena ni adui wa watu wote,
who both the Lord having killed Jesus and ([their] own *K*) prophets and (us *NK(O)*) having driven out and God not pleasing and to all men opposed,
16 wakijitahidi kutuzuia tusizungumze na watu wa Mataifa ili kwamba wapate kuokolewa. Kwa njia hii wanazidi kujilundikia dhambi zao hadi kikomo. Lakini hatimaye ghadhabu ya Mungu imewafikia.
they are hindering us to the Gentiles to speak that they may be saved, so as to fill up their sins always; Has come now upon them the wrath (of the God *O*) to the utmost.
17 Lakini ndugu zetu, tulipotenganishwa nanyi kwa kitambo kidogo (ingawa kutengana huko kulikuwa kwa mwili tu, si kwa moyo), tulizidi kuwa na shauku kubwa kuwaona uso kwa uso.
We ourselves however, brothers, having been bereaved of you for [the] time of an hour in face not in heart, more abundantly were eager the face of you to see with great desire.
18 Maana tulitaka kuja kwenu, hasa mimi Paulo, nilitaka kuja tena na tena, lakini Shetani akatuzuia.
(therefore *N(k)O*) we wanted to come to you — I myself indeed Paul both once and twice — and hindered us Satan.
19 Kwa maana tumaini letu ni nini, au furaha yetu au taji yetu ya kujisifia mbele za Bwana Yesu Kristo wakati wa kuja kwake? Je, si ni ninyi?
Who [is] for our hope or joy or crown of boasting? Except only even you before the Lord of us Jesus (Christ *K*) at His coming?
20 Naam, ninyi ndio fahari yetu na furaha yetu.
You yourselves for are the glory of us and joy.
