1 Wana wa Yuda walikuwa: Peresi, Hesroni, Karmi, Huri na Shobali.

the sons of Judah, Perez, Hezron, and Carmi, and Hur, and Shobal.

2 Reaya mwana wa Shobali akamzaa Yahathi, Yahathi akawazaa Ahumai na Lahadi. Hizi ndizo zilizokuwa koo za Wasorathi.

And, Reaiah son of Shobal, begat Jahath, and, Jahath, begat Ahumai, and Lahad. These, are the families of the Zorathites.

3 Hawa ndio waliokuwa wana wa Etamu: Yezreeli, Ishma na Idbashi. Dada yao aliitwa Haselelponi.

And, these, were the sons of Etam, Jezreel and Ishma, and Idbash, —and, the name of their sister, was Hazzelelponi;

4 Penueli akamzaa Gedori, naye Ezeri akamzaa Husha. Hawa walikuwa wazao wa Huri, mzaliwa wa kwanza wa Efrathi, na baba yake Bethlehemu.

and Penuel the father of Gedor, and Ezer, the father of Hushah. These, are the sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrathah, the father of Bethlehem.

5 Ashuri baba yake Tekoa alikuwa na wake wawili, Hela na Naara.

And, Ashhur the father of Tekoa, had two wives, —Helah, and Naarah.

6 Hawa walikuwa wazao wa Naara: Ahuzamu, Heferi, Temeni na Haahashtari.

And Naarah bare him Ahuzzam and Hepher, and Temeni, and Haahashtari. These, were the sons of Naarah.

7 Wana wa Hela walikuwa: Serethi, Sohari, Ethnani,

And, the sons of Helah, were Zereth, Izhar, and Ethnan.

8 na Kosi ambaye aliwazaa Anubi, Sobeba na jamaa zote za Aharheli mwana wa Harumu.

And, Koz, begat Anub, and Zobebah, —and the families of Aharhel, the son of Harum.

9 Yabesi aliheshimiwa kuliko ndugu zake. Mama yake alimwita Yabesi, akisema, “Nilimzaa kwa huzuni.”

Now it came to pass that Jabez was more honourable than his brethren, —but, his mother, had called his name Jabez, ["he causes pain"] saying, Because I bare him with pain.

10 Yabesi akamlilia Mungu wa Israeli akisema, “Ee Mungu, laiti ungenibariki kweli kweli na kuipanua mipaka yangu! Mkono wako na uwe pamoja nami, uniepushe na uovu ili nisidhurike!” Naye Mungu akamjalia hayo aliyoyaomba.

So then Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldst, indeed bless, me, and enlarge my boundary, and that thy hand might be with me, —and that thou wouldst work [to deliver me] from evil, that it be not my pain. And God brought about that which he asked.

11 Kelubu, nduguye Shuha, akamzaa Mehiri, naye Mehiri akamzaa Eshtoni.

And, Chelub the brother of Shuhah, begat Mehir, the same, was the father of Eshton.

12 Eshtoni akawazaa Beth-Rafa, Pasea na Tehina. Tehina alikuwa baba wa Iri-Nahashi. Hawa ndio waliokuwa wazao wa Reka.

And, Eshton, begat Beth-rapha, and Paseah, and Tehinnah, the father of Ir-nahash. These, are the men of Recah.

13 Wana wa Kenazi walikuwa: Othnieli na Seraya. Wana wa Othnieli walikuwa: Hathathi na Meonathai.

And, the sons of Kenaz, were Othniel, and Seraiah, —and, the sons of Othniel, Hathath.

14 Meonathai akamzaa Ofra. Seraya akamzaa Yoabu, baba wa Ge-Harashimu. Liliitwa hivyo kwa sababu watu walioishi humo walikuwa mafundi.

And, Meonothai, begat Ophrah, —and, Seraiah, begat Joab, the father of Ge-harashim, for they were, craftsmen.

15 Kalebu mwana wa Yefune alikuwa na wana watatu: Iru, Ela na Naamu. Naye mwana wa Ela alikuwa: Kenazi.

And, the sons of Caleb son of Jephunneh, were Iru, Elah, and Naam, —and the sons of Elah and Kenaz.

16 Wana wa Yahaleleli walikuwa: Zifu, Zifa, Tiria na Asareli.

And, the sons of Jehallelel, Ziph and Ziphah, Tiria, and Asarel.

17 Wana wa Ezra walikuwa: Yetheri, Meredi, Eferi na Yaloni. Mmojawapo wa wake zake Meredi aliwazaa: Miriamu, Shamai na Ishba aliyekuwa baba yake Eshtemoa.

And, the sons of Ezrah, Jether and Mered, and Epher and Jalon. And, these, are the sons of Bithia, daughter of Pharaoh, whom Mered took, —and she conceived and bare Miriam and Shammai, and Ishbah, the father of Eshtemoa.

18 Meredi alikuwa na mke mwingine Myahudi ambaye aliwazaa: Yeredi baba wa Gedori, Heberi baba wa Soko na Yekuthieli baba wa Zanoa. Hawa walikuwa watoto wa Bithia binti Farao, ambaye Meredi alikuwa amemwoa.

And, his wife, the Jewess, bare Jered the father of Gedor, and Heber the father of Soco, and Jekuthiel, the father of Zanoah.

19 Wana wa mke wa Hodia aliyekuwa dada yake Nahamu walikuwa: baba yake Keila, Mgarmi na Eshtemoa, Mmaakathi.

And, the sons of the wife of Hodiah, the sister of Naham, were the father of Keilah, the Garmite, —and Eshtemoa, the Maacathite.

20 Wana wa Shimoni walikuwa: Amnoni, Rina, Ben-Hanani na Tiloni. Wazao wa Ishi walikuwa: Zohethi na Ben-Zohethi.

And, the sons of Shimon, Amnon, and Rinnah, Ben-hanan and Tilon. And, the sons of Ishi, Zoheth, and Ben-zoheth.

21 Wana wa Shela, mwana wa Yuda, walikuwa: Eri baba yake Leka, Laada baba yake Maresha na jamaa za wafumaji nguo za kitani safi waliokuwa wakiishi huko Beth-Ashbea,

the sons of Shelah, the son of Judah, Er, the father of Lecah, and Laadah, the father of Mareshah, —and the families of the house of them that wrought fine linen, of the house of Ashbea;

22 Yokimu, watu walioishi Kozeba, Yoashi na Sarafi waliotawala huko Moabu na Yashubi-Lehemu. (Taarifa hizi ni za zamani sana.)

and Jokim, and the men of Cozeba, and Joash, and Saraph who ruled for Moab, and Jashubi-lehem, —but, the records, are ancient.

23 Hawa walikuwa wafinyanzi walioishi Netaimu na Gedera; waliishi huko wakimtumikia mfalme.

They, were the potters and the inhabitants of Netaim, and Gederah, —with the king in his work, dwelt they there.

24 Wazao wa Simeoni walikuwa: Nemueli, Yamini, Yaribu, Zera na Shauli.

The sons of Simeon, Nemuel, and Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, Shaul:

25 Mwana wa Shauli alikuwa Shalumu, Shalumu akamzaa Mibsamu, na Mibsamu akamzaa Mishma.

Shallum his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son.

26 Wazao wa Mishma walikuwa: Hamueli aliyemzaa Zakuri, Zakuri akamzaa Shimei.

And, the sons of Mishma, Hammuel his son, Zaccur his son, Shimei his son.

27 Shimei alikuwa na wana kumi na sita, na binti sita, lakini ndugu zake hawakuwa na watoto wengi, hivyo ukoo wao wote haukuwa na watu wengi kama ukoo wa Yuda.

And, Shimei, had sixteen sons, and six daughters, but, his brethren, had not many children, —nor did, any of their family, multiply so much as the sons of Judah.

28 Waliishi Beer-Sheba, Molada, Hasar-Shuali,

And they dwelt in Beer-sheba, and Moladah, and Hazar-shual;

29 Bilha, Esemu, Toladi,

and in Bilhah, and in Ezem, and in Tolad;

30 Bethueli, Horma, Siklagi,

and in Bethuel, and in Hormah, and in Ziklag;

31 Beth-Markabothi, Hasar-Susimu, Beth-Biri na Shaaraimu. Hii ilikuwa miji yao mpaka wakati wa utawala wa Daudi.

and in Beth-marcaboth, and in Hazar-susim, and in Beth-biri, and in Shaaraim. These, were their cities unto the reign of David.

32 Vijiji vilivyoizunguka vilikuwa Etamu, Aini, Rimoni, Tokeni na Ashani; jumla miji mitano:

And, their villages, were Etam, and Ain, Rimmon, and Tochen, and Ashan, —five cities;

33 pamoja na vijiji vyote kuizunguka hii miji hadi huko Baali. Haya yalikuwa makao yao, nao waliweka kumbukumbu ya ukoo wao.

and all their villages that were round about these cities, as far as Baal. These, were their habitations, and they had their own genealogical register.

34 Meshobabu, Yamleki, Yosha mwana wa Amazia,

And Meshobab, and Jamlech, and Joshah, the son of Amaziah;

35 Yoeli, Yehu mwana wa Yoshibia, mwana wa Seraya, mwana wa Asieli.

and Joel, —and Jehu, the son of Joshibiah, the son of Seraiah, the son of Asiel:

36 Pia Elioenai, Yaakoba, Yeshohaya, Asaya, Adieli, Yesimieli, Benaya,

and Elioenai, and Jaakobah, and Jeshohaiah, and Asaiah, and Adiel, and Jesimiel, and Benaiah:

37 Ziza mwana wa Shifi, mwana wa Aloni, mwana wa Yedaya, mwana wa Shimri, mwana wa Shemaya.

and Ziza, son of Shiphi, son of Allon, son of Jedaiah, son of Shimri, son of Shemaiah.

38 Watu hawa walioorodheshwa hapa juu kwa majina walikuwa viongozi wa koo zao. Jamaa zao ziliongezeka sana,

These, introduced by their names, were leading men in their families. And, their ancestral house, brake forth exceedingly;

39 wakaenea mpaka kwenye viunga vya Gedori kuelekea mashariki mwa bonde wakitafuta malisho kwa ajili ya mifugo yao.

so they went to the entering in of Gerar, unto the east of the valley, —to seek pasture for their flocks;

40 Huko walipata malisho mengi mazuri, nayo nchi ilikuwa na nafasi kubwa, yenye amani na utulivu. Baadhi ya Wahamu waliishi huko zamani.

and they found pasture, fat and good, and, the land, was broad on both hands, and quiet, and secure, —for, of Ham, were the dwellers there aforetime.

41 Watu walioorodheshwa majina walikuja katika nchi hiyo wakati wa Hezekia mfalme wa Yuda. Akawashambulia Wahamu katika makao yao pamoja na Wameuni ambao walikuwako huko nao wakawaangamiza kabisa, kama ilivyo dhahiri hadi leo. Kisha wakafanya makazi yao huko kwa sababu kulikuwa na malisho mazuri kwa ajili ya mifugo yao.

But these written by name came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and smote their tents, and the Meunim who were found there, and devoted them, until this day, and dwelt in their stead, —for there was pasture for their flocks, there.

42 Watu wa kabila la wa Simeoni wapatao mia tano, wakiongozwa na Pelatia, Nearia, Refaya na Uzieli wana wa Ishi, wakavamia nchi ya vilima ya Seiri.

And, some of them, of the sons of Simeon, went to Mount Seir, five hundred men, —with Pelatiah, and Neariah, and Rephaiah, and Uzziel, sons of Ishi, at their head;

43 Wakawaua Waamaleki waliobaki, waliokuwa wamenusurika, nao wanaishi huko hadi leo.

and they smote the remainder that had escaped, of the Amalekites, —and dwelt there—[as they have] unto this day.
