1 Daudi alipokuwa mzee aliyeshiba siku, akamfanya Solomoni mwanawe kuwa mfalme juu ya Israeli.
Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.
2 Pia akawakusanya pamoja viongozi wote wa Israeli, pamoja na makuhani na Walawi.
And he gathered together all the leaders of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.
3 Walawi waliokuwa na umri wa miaka thelathini au zaidi walihesabiwa, nayo hesabu ya wanaume ilikuwa 38,000.
The Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty-eight thousand.
4 Daudi akasema, “Miongoni mwa hawa, 24,000 watasimamia kazi ya Hekalu la Bwana na 6,000 watakuwa maafisa na waamuzi,
David said, "Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of Jehovah; six thousand were officers and judges;
5 na 4,000 watakuwa mabawabu, na wengine 4,000 watamsifu Bwana kwa ala za uimbaji nilizotoa kwa ajili ya kusudi hilo.”
four thousand were doorkeepers; and four thousand praised Jehovah with the instruments which I made, for giving praise."
6 Daudi akawagawa Walawi katika makundi kufuatana na wana wa Lawi: Gershoni, Kohathi na Merari.
David divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
7 Wana wa Wagershoni walikuwa wawili: Ladani na Shimei.
Of the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei.
8 Wana wa Ladani walikuwa watatu: Yehieli wa kwanza, Zethamu na Yoeli.
The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three.
9 Wana wa Shimei walikuwa watatu: Shelomothi, Hazieli na Harani. Hawa watatu walikuwa viongozi wa jamaa za Ladani.
The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the ancestral houses of Ladan.
10 Nao wana wa Shimei walikuwa wanne: Yahathi, Zina, Yeushi na Beria.
The sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zizah, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.
11 Yahathi alikuwa wa kwanza na Ziza wa pili, lakini Yeushi na Beria hawakuwa na wana wengi; kwa hiyo walihesabiwa kama jamaa moja, wakapewa wajibu kwa pamoja.
Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons; therefore they became a fathers' house in one reckoning.
12 Wana wa Kohathi walikuwa wanne: Amramu, Ishari, Hebroni na Uzieli.
The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.
13 Wana wa Amramu walikuwa: Aroni na Mose. Aroni waliwekwa wakfu, yeye na wazao wake milele, wawe wakiweka wakfu vitu ambavyo ni vitakatifu mno, kutoa dhabihu mbele za Bwana, kuhudumu mbele zake na kutamka baraka katika Jina la Bwana milele.
The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons, forever, to burn incense before Jehovah, to minister to him, and to bless in his name, forever.
14 Wana wa Mose mtu wa Mungu walihesabiwa kama sehemu ya kabila la Lawi.
But as for Moses the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi.
15 Wana wa Mose walikuwa: Gershomu na Eliezeri.
The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.
16 Wazao wa Gershomu: Shebueli alikuwa wa kwanza.
The sons of Gershom: Shubael the chief.
17 Wazao wa Eliezeri: Rehabia alikuwa wa kwanza. Eliezeri alikuwa na mwana mmoja tu, lakini wana wa Rehabia walikuwa wengi sana.
The sons of Eliezer were: Rehabiah the chief; and Eliezer had no other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.
18 Wana wa Ishari: Shelomithi alikuwa wa kwanza.
The sons of Izhar: Shelomoth the chief.
19 Wana wa Hebroni walikuwa: Yeria alikuwa wa kwanza, wa pili Amaria, wa tatu Yahazieli, na wa nne Yekameamu.
The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.
20 Wana wa Uzieli walikuwa: Mika wa kwanza na Ishia wa pili.
The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second.
21 Wana wa Merari walikuwa: Mahli na Mushi. Wana wa Mahli walikuwa: Eleazari na Kishi.
The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.
22 Eleazari akafa bila ya kuwa na wana: alikuwa na binti tu. Binamu zao, wana wa Kishi, wakawaoa.
Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only: and their brothers the sons of Kish took them as wives.
23 Wana wa Mushi: Mahli, Ederi na Yeremothi; wote walikuwa watatu.
The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.
24 Hawa walikuwa wazao wa Lawi kwa jamaa zao. Wakuu wa jamaa kama walivyoandikwa kwa majina yao na kuhesabiwa kila mmoja, yaani, wenye uwezo wa kufanya kazi kuanzia miaka ishirini au zaidi, waliohudumu katika Hekalu la Bwana.
These were the sons of Levi after their fathers' houses, even the heads of ancestral houses of those who were counted individually, in the number of names by their polls, who do the work for the service of the house of Jehovah, from twenty years old and upward.
25 Kwa maana Daudi alikuwa amesema, “Kwa vile Bwana, Mungu wa Israeli amewapa watu wake raha na amekuja kuishi Yerusalemu milele,
For David said, "Jehovah, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people; and he dwells in Jerusalem forever.
26 Walawi hawahitaji tena kubeba Maskani wala chombo chochote cha utumishi wake.”
Also the Levites will no longer need to carry the tabernacle and all its vessels for its service."
27 Kulingana na maagizo ya mwisho ya Daudi, Walawi waliohesabiwa ni wale wa kuanzia umri wa miaka ishirini au zaidi.
For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered, from twenty years old and upward.
28 Wajibu wa Walawi ulikuwa kuwasaidia wazao wa Aroni kuhudumu katika Hekalu la Bwana: Kuwa wasimamizi wa nyua, vyumba vya pembeni, kutakasa vyombo vitakatifu na utendaji mwingine wowote katika nyumba ya Mungu.
For their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of Jehovah, in the courts, and in the rooms, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of God's house,
29 Walikuwa wasimamizi wa mikate iliyowekwa mezani, unga kwa ajili ya sadaka za nafaka, mikate isiyotiwa chachu, uokaji na uchanganyaji, pamoja na vipimo vyote vya wingi na ukubwa.
involving the show bread, the fine flour for a meal offering, whether of unleavened wafers, or of that which is baked in the pan, or of that which is soaked, and for all kinds of measure and size;
30 Pia ulikuwa wajibu wao kila asubuhi kumshukuru na kumsifu Bwana. Iliwapasa pia kufanya hivyo jioni
and to stand every morning to thank and praise Jehovah, and likewise in the evening;
31 na wakati wowote sadaka za kuteketezwa zilipotolewa kwa Bwana siku za Sabato na kwenye sikukuu za Mwezi Mwandamo na katika sikukuu nyingine zilizoamriwa. Iliwapasa kuhudumu mbele za Bwana mara kwa mara kwa idadi maalum na kwa namna waliyokuwa wamepewa maelekezo.
and to offer all burnt offerings to Jehovah, on the Sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts, in number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually before Jehovah;
32 Hivyo Walawi wakafanya wajibu wao katika Hema la Kukutania, katika Mahali Patakatifu chini ya uongozi wa ndugu zao wazao wa Aroni, kwa ajili ya utumishi katika Hekalu la Bwana.
and that they should keep the duty of the Tent of Meeting, and the duty of the holy place, and the duty of the sons of Aaron their brothers, for the service of the house of Jehovah.
