1 Shetani akainuka dhidi ya Israeli na kumshawishi Daudi ahesabu watu wa Israeli.
And Satan stoode vp against Israel, and prouoked Dauid to nomber Israel.
2 Kwa hiyo Daudi akamwambia Yoabu na majemadari wa jeshi, “Nendeni mkawahesabu Waisraeli kuanzia Beer-Sheba mpaka Dani. Kisha nileteeni taarifa ili kwamba niweze kufahamu wako wangapi.”
Therefore Dauid said to Ioab, and to the rulers of the people, Go, and nomber Israel from Beer-sheba euen to Dan, and bring it to me, that I may knowe the nomber of them.
3 Yoabu akajibu, “Bwana na aongeze jeshi lake mara mia na zaidi. Mfalme bwana wangu, kwani hawa wote si raiya wa bwana wangu? Kwa nini bwana wangu unataka kufanya hivi? Kwa nini kuleta hatia juu ya Israeli?”
And Ioab answered, The Lord increase his people an hundreth times so many as they be, O my lord the King: are they not all my lords seruats? wherefore doeth my lord require this thing? why should he be a cause of trespasse to Israel?
4 Hata hivyo, neno la mfalme likawa na nguvu juu ya Yoabu; kwa hiyo Yoabu akaondoka na kuzunguka Israeli yote kisha akarudi Yerusalemu.
Neuerthelesse the Kings word preuailed against Ioab. And Ioab departed and went thorowe all Israel, and returned to Ierusalem.
5 Yoabu akampa Daudi jumla ya idadi ya watu wanaoweza kupigana. Katika Israeli kulikuwa na watu 1,100,000 ambao wangeweza kutumia upanga na katika Yuda watu 470,000.
And Ioab gaue the nomber and summe of the people vnto Dauid: and all Israel were eleuen hundreth thousande men that drewe sword: and Iudah was foure hundreth and seuentie thousande men that drewe sword.
6 Lakini Yoabu hakuwahesabu Walawi na Wabenyamini, kwa sababu alichukizwa sana na amri ya mfalme.
But the Leuites and Beniamin counted he not among them: for the Kings worde was abominable to Ioab.
7 Amri hii ilikuwa mbaya machoni pa Mungu pia; hivyo akaiadhibu Israeli.
And God was displeased with this thing: therefore he smote Israel.
8 Kisha Daudi akamwambia Mungu, “Nimetenda dhambi kubwa kwa kufanya jambo hili. Sasa, ninakusihi, ondoa hatia ya mtumishi wako. Nimefanya jambo la kipumbavu sana.”
Then Dauid saide vnto God, I haue sinned greatly, because I haue done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, remooue the iniquitie of thy seruant: for I haue done very foolishly.
9 Bwana akamwambia Gadi, mwonaji wa Daudi,
And the Lord spake vnto Gad Dauids Seer, saying,
10 “Nenda ukamwambie Daudi, hivi ndivyo asemavyo Bwana: ‘Ninakupa wewe uchaguzi wa mambo matatu. Nichagulie mojawapo nitakalotenda dhidi yako.’”
Goe and tell Dauid, saying, Thus saith the Lord, I offer thee three thinges: choose thee one of them, that I may doe it vnto thee.
11 Kwa hiyo Gadi akamwendea Daudi akamwambia, “Hili ndilo Bwana asemalo: ‘Chagua:
So Gad came to Dauid, and sayde vnto him, Thus saith the Lord, Take to thee
12 miaka mitatu ya njaa, au miezi mitatu ya kushindwa na adui zako, ukipatwa na upanga wao, au siku tatu za upanga wa Bwana, yaani, siku tatu za tauni katika nchi na malaika wa Bwana akiangamiza kila mahali katika Israeli.’ Sasa basi, amua jinsi nitakavyomjibu yeye aliyenituma.”
Either three yeeres famine, or three moneths to be destroyed before thine aduersaries, and the sworde of thine enemies to take thee, or els the sworde of the Lord and pestilence in the lande three dayes, that the Angel of the Lord may destroy throughout all the coastes of Israel: nowe therefore aduise thee, what word I shall bring againe to him that sent me.
13 Daudi akamwambia Gadi, “Ninayo mahangaiko makubwa. Mimi na nianguke mikononi mwa Bwana kwa maana rehema zake ni kuu mno, lakini usiniache niangukie mikononi mwa wanadamu.”
And Dauid said vnto Gad, I am in a wonderfull strait. let me nowe fall into the hande of the Lord: for his mercies are exceeding great, and let me not fall into the hande of man.
14 Basi Bwana akatuma tauni katika Israeli, watu 70,000 wa Israeli wakafa.
So the Lord sent a pestilence in Israel, and there fell of Israel seuentie thousande men.
15 Mungu akapeleka malaika kuangamiza Yerusalemu. Lakini malaika alipokuwa akifanya hivyo, Bwana akaona na akahuzunika kwa sababu ya maafa, akamwambia yule malaika aliyekuwa anaangamiza watu, “Yatosha! Rudisha mkono wako.” Wakati huo malaika wa Bwana alikuwa amesimama katika sakafu ya kupuria nafaka ya Arauna Myebusi.
And God sent the Angel into Ierusalem to destroy it. And as he was destroying, the Lord behelde, and repented of the euill and sayde to the Angel that destroyed, It is nowe ynough, let thine hande cease. Then the Angel of the Lord stoode by the thresshing floore of Ornan the Iebusite.
16 Daudi akayainua macho yake akamwona huyo malaika wa Bwana akiwa amesimama katikati ya mbingu na dunia, naye ameunyoosha upanga wake juu ya Yerusalemu tayari kuangamiza. Kisha Daudi na wazee, waliokuwa wamevaa nguo za gunia, wakaanguka kifudifudi.
And Dauid lift vp his eyes, and sawe the Angel of the Lord stande betweene the earth and the heauen with his sworde drawen in his hand, and stretched out towarde Ierusalem. Then Dauid and the Elders of Israel, which were clothed in sacke, fell vpon their faces.
17 Daudi akamwambia Mungu, “Je, si mimi ndiye niliyeamuru watu wahesabiwe? Mimi ndiye niliyetenda dhambi na kukosa. Hawa ni kondoo tu. Wamefanya nini? Ee Bwana, Mungu wangu, mkono wako na uwe juu yangu mimi na jamaa yangu, lakini usiache tauni hii iendelee juu ya watu wako.”
And Dauid said vnto God, Is it not I that commanded to nomber the people? It is euen I that haue sinned and haue committed euil, but these sheepe what haue they done? O Lord my God, I beseech thee, let thine hande be on me and on my fathers house, and not on thy people for their destruction.
18 Kisha malaika wa Bwana akamwamuru Gadi amwambie Daudi apande na kumjengea Bwana madhabahu kwenye sakafu ya kupuria nafaka ya Arauna Myebusi.
Then the Angel of the Lord commanded Gad to say to Dauid, that Dauid should goe vp, and set vp an altar vnto the Lord in the thresshing floore of Ornan the Iebusite.
19 Kwa hiyo Daudi akakwea, akalitii lile neno ambalo Gadi alikuwa amelisema katika jina la Bwana.
So Dauid went vp according to the saying of Gad, which he had spoken in the Name of the Lord.
20 Arauna alipokuwa akipura ngano, akageuka akamwona yule malaika. Wanawe wanne waliokuwa pamoja naye wakajificha, yeye akaendelea kupura ngano.
And Ornan turned about, and sawe the Angel, and his foure sonnes, that were with him, hid them selues, and Ornan thresshed wheat.
21 Kisha Daudi akakaribia, Arauna alipotazama na kumwona, akaondoka kwenye uwanja wa kupuria nafaka akamsujudia Daudi akiuinamisha uso wake ardhini.
And as Dauid came to Ornan, Ornan looked and sawe Dauid, and went out of the thresshing floore, and bowed himselfe to Dauid with his face to the grounde.
22 Daudi akamwambia, “Nipatie huu uwanja wako wa kupuria nafaka ili niweze kujenga madhabahu ya Bwana tauni ipate kukomeshwa katika watu. Niuzie kwa bei yake kamili.”
And Dauid saide to Ornan, Giue me the place of thy thresshing floore, that I may builde an altar therein vnto the Lord: giue it me for sufficient money, that the plague may be stayed from the people.
23 Arauna akamwambia Daudi, “Uchukue huo uwanja. Mfalme bwana wangu na afanye lolote analopenda. Tazama, nitatoa maksai kwa ajili ya sadaka za kuteketezwa, vifaa vya kupuria kuwa kuni, pamoja na ngano kwa ajili ya dhabihu ya nafaka. Natoa hivi vyote.”
Then Ornan saide vnto Dauid, Take it to thee, and let my lord the King do that which seemeth him good: loe, I giue thee bullockes for burnt offrings, and thresshing instruments for wood, and wheat for meate offring, I giue it all.
24 Lakini Mfalme Daudi akamjibu Arauna, “La hasha! Lakini ninasisitiza kwamba nitalipa bei yake kamili. Sitachukua kilicho chako kwa ajili ya Bwana au kutoa sadaka ya kuteketezwa ambayo hainigharimu chochote.”
And King Dauid saide to Ornan, Not so: but I will bye it for sufficient money: for I wil not take that which is thine for the Lord, nor offer burnt offrings without cost.
25 Basi Daudi akamlipa Arauna shekeli za dhahabu 600 kwa ajili ya ule uwanja.
So Dauid gaue to Ornan for that place sixe hundreth shekels of golde by weight.
26 Kisha Daudi akamjengea Bwana madhabahu mahali hapo, na kutoa sadaka za kuteketezwa na sadaka za amani. Akamwita Bwana naye Bwana akajibu maombi yake kwa moto toka mbinguni juu ya madhabahu ya sadaka ya kuteketezwa.
And Dauid built there an altar vnto the Lord, and offred burnt offrings, and peace offrings, and called vpon the Lord, and he answered him by fire from heauen vpon the altar of burnt offring.
27 Kisha Bwana akanena na yule malaika, naye akarudisha upanga wake katika ala yake.
And when the Lord had spoken to the Angel, he put vp his sworde againe into his sheath.
28 Wakati huo, Daudi alipoona kwamba Bwana amemjibu kule kwenye uwanja wa kupuria nafaka wa Arauna Myebusi, akatoa dhabihu huko.
At that time when Dauid sawe that the Lord had heard him in the thresshing floore of Ornan the Iebusite, then he sacrificed there.
29 Maskani ya Bwana ambayo Mose aliitengeneza kule jangwani, pamoja na madhabahu ya sadaka ya kuteketezwa kwa wakati huo vilikuwa viko mahali pa juu pa kuabudia huko Gibeoni.
(But the Tabernacle of the Lord which Moses had made in the wildernesse, and the altar of burnt offring were at that season in the hie place at Gibeon.
30 Lakini Daudi hakuthubutu kuisogelea ili kumuuliza Mungu, kwa sababu aliuogopa upanga wa yule malaika wa Bwana.
And Dauid could not go before it to aske counsel at God: for he was afraide of the sworde of the Angel of the Lord.)
