1 Israeli yote walimjia Daudi kwa pamoja huko Hebroni wakamwambia, “Sisi ni nyama yako na damu yako.

And all Israel is gathered to David at Hebron, saying, “Behold, we [are] your bone and your flesh;

2 Zamani, wakati Sauli alikuwa mfalme, wewe ndiwe uliyeiongoza Israeli vitani, naye Bwana Mungu wako alikuambia, ‘Wewe utawachunga watu wangu Israeli, na utakuwa mtawala wao.’”

even in time past, even in Saul’s being king, it is you who are taking out and bringing in Israel, and your God YHWH says to you: You feed My people Israel, and you are leader over My people Israel.”

3 Wazee wote wa Israeli walipokuwa wamewasili kwa Mfalme Daudi huko Hebroni, alifanya mapatano nao huko Hebroni mbele za Bwana, nao wakamtia Daudi mafuta awe mfalme wa Israeli, sawasawa na Bwana alivyoahidi kupitia kwa Samweli.

And all [the] elderly of Israel come to the king at Hebron, and David makes a covenant with them in Hebron before YHWH, and they anoint David for king over Israel, according to the word of YHWH by the hand of Samuel.

4 Daudi na Waisraeli wote wakaenda Yerusalemu (ndio Yebusi). Nao Wayebusi walioishi humo

And David goes, and all Israel, to Jerusalem—it [is] Jebus—and the Jebusite [is] there, the inhabitants of the land.

5 wakamwambia Daudi, “Wewe hutaingia humu.” Hata hivyo, Daudi akaiteka ngome ya Sayuni, Mji wa Daudi.

And the inhabitants of Jebus say to David, “You do not come in here”; and David captures the fortress of Zion—it [is] the City of David.

6 Daudi alikuwa amesema, “Yeyote aongozaye mashambulizi dhidi ya Wayebusi, atakuwa jemadari mkuu.” Yoabu mwana wa Seruya akawa wa kwanza kukwea, naye akawa mkuu.

And David says, “Whoever strikes the Jebusite first becomes head and prince”; and Joab son of Zeruiah goes up first and becomes head.

7 Daudi akafanya makao yake kwenye ngome, hivyo ukaitwa Mji wa Daudi.

And David dwells in the fortress, therefore they have called it the City of David;

8 Akajenga mji pande zote, kuanzia kwenye mito hadi kwenye ukuta kuzunguka, wakati huo huo Yoabu akajenga sehemu zingine zilizobaki za Yerusalemu.

and he builds the city all around, from Millo, and to the circumference, and Joab restores the rest of the city.

9 Daudi akazidi kuwa na nguvu zaidi na zaidi, kwa sababu Bwana Mwenye Nguvu Zote alikuwa pamoja naye.

And David goes, going on and becoming great, and YHWH of Hosts [is] with him.

10 Hawa ndio waliokuwa wakuu wa mashujaa wa Daudi: wao pamoja na Israeli wote wakauimarisha ufalme wake ili kuenea katika nchi yote, kama Bwana alivyoahidi.

And these [are] heads of the mighty ones whom David has, who are strengthening themselves with him in his kingdom, with all Israel, to cause him to reign, according to the word of YHWH, over Israel.

11 Hii ndio orodha ya mashujaa wa Daudi: Yashobeamu, Mhakmoni, alikuwa mkuu wa maafisa; yeye aliinua mkuki wake dhidi ya watu 300, ambao aliwaua katika pambano moja.

And this [is] an account of the mighty ones whom David has: Jashobeam son of a Hachmonite [is] head of the thirty; he is lifting up his spear against three hundred—wounded, at one time.

12 Aliyefuata alikuwa Eleazari, mwana wa Dodai, Mwahohi, mmojawapo wa wale mashujaa watatu.

And after him [is] Eleazar son of Dodo the Ahohite, he [is] among the three mighty;

13 Huyo alikuwa pamoja na Daudi huko Pas-Damimu, wakati Wafilisti walikusanyika huko kwa ajili ya vita. Huko ambapo kulikuwa na shamba lililokuwa limejaa shayiri, vikosi vya Israeli vikawakimbia Wafilisti.

he has been with David in Pas-Dammim, and the Philistines have been gathered there to battle, and a portion of the field is full of barley, and the people have fled from the face of the Philistines,

14 Lakini Eleazari na Daudi wakasimama imara katikati ya lile shamba, nao wakalishindania na wakawaua Wafilisti. Naye Bwana akawapa ushindi mkubwa.

and they station themselves in the midst of the portion, and deliver it, and strike the Philistines, and YHWH saves [with] a great salvation.

15 Wakuu watatu miongoni mwa wale thelathini, walimwendea Daudi katika mwamba huko kwenye pango la Adulamu, wakati kikundi cha Wafilisti kilikuwa kimepiga kambi katika Bonde la Warefai.

And three of the thirty heads go down on the rock to David, to the cave of Adullam, and the host of the Philistines is encamping in the Valley of Rephaim,

16 Wakati huo Daudi alikuwa katika ngome, na kambi ya Wafilisti ilikuwa huko Bethlehemu.

and David [is] then in the fortress, and the station of the Philistines [is] then in Beth-Lehem,

17 Daudi akatamani maji, akasema, “Laiti mtu angenipatia maji ya kunywa kutoka kisima kilichoko karibu na lango la Bethlehemu!”

and David longs and says, “Who gives me water to drink from the well of Beth-Lehem that [is] at the gate!”

18 Kwa hivyo wale watatu, wakapita katikati ya safu za Wafilisti, wakachota maji kutoka kwa kisima kilicho karibu na lango la Bethlehemu, wakamletea Daudi. Lakini yeye akakataa kuyanywa. Badala yake, aliyamimina mbele za Bwana.

And the three break through the camp of the Philistines, and draw water from the well of Beth-Lehem that [is] at the gate, and carry and bring [it] to David, and David has not been willing to drink it, and pours it out to YHWH,

19 Akasema, “Mungu apishie mbali kwamba nifanye hivi! Je kweli, niinywe damu ya watu hawa waliohatarisha maisha yao?” Kwa sababu walihatarisha maisha yao kuyaleta yale maji, Daudi hakukubali kuyanywa. Huo ndio uliokuwa ujasiri wa wale mashujaa watatu.

and says, “Far be it from me, by my God, to do this; do I drink the blood of these men with their lives? For with their lives they have brought it”; and he was not willing to drink it; these [things] the three mighty ones did.

20 Abishai, ndugu yake Yoabu ndiye alikuwa kiongozi wa hao Watatu. Aliinua mkuki wake dhidi ya watu 300, ambao aliwaua, kwa hiyo naye akawa na sifa kama hao Watatu.

And Abishai brother of Joab, he has been head of the three: and he is lifting up his spear against three hundred—wounded, and has a name among three.

21 Alitunukiwa heshima maradufu ya wale Watatu, akawa jemadari wao, ingawa hakuhesabiwa miongoni mwao.

Of the three he is more honored than the [other] two, and becomes their head; but he has not come to the [first] three.

22 Benaya, mwana wa Yehoyada alikuwa mpiganaji hodari kutoka Kabseeli ambaye alifanya mambo makubwa ya ujasiri. Aliwaua mashujaa wawili waliokuwa hodari kuliko wote wa Moabu. Pia alishuka shimoni kulipokuwa na theluji na kumuua simba.

Benaiah son of Jehoiada, son of a man of valor, of great deeds, from Kabzeel: he has struck the two lion-like Moabites, and he has gone down and struck the lion in the midst of the pit, in the day of snow.

23 Alimuua Mmisri aliyekuwa na urefu kama dhiraa tano. Ingawa Mmisri alikuwa na mkuki kama mti wa mfumaji mkononi mwake, Benaya alimwendea na rungu. Akamnyangʼanya Mmisri mkuki wake na kumuua nao.

And he has struck the man, the Egyptian, a man of [great] measure—five by the cubit—and in the hand of the Egyptian [is] a spear like a weavers’ beam, and he goes down to him with a rod, and violently takes away the spear out of the hand of the Egyptian, and slays him with his own spear.

24 Haya yalikuwa mambo ya ushujaa ya Benaya mwana wa Yehoyada; naye pia alikuwa maarufu kama wale mashujaa watatu.

These [things] Benaiah son of Jehoiada has done, and has a name among the three mighty ones.

25 Yeye aliheshimiwa zaidi ya wale Thelathini, lakini hakujumuishwa miongoni mwa wale Watatu: Daudi akamweka kuwa kiongozi wa walinzi wake.

Of the thirty, behold, he [is] honored, but he has not come to the [first] three, and David sets him over his guard.

26 Wale watu mashujaa walikuwa: Asaheli nduguye Yoabu, Elhanani mwana wa Dodo kutoka Bethlehemu,

And the mighty ones of the forces [are] Asahel brother of Joab, Elhanan son of Dodo of Beth-Lehem,

27 Shamothi Mharori, Helesi Mpeloni,

Shammoth the Harorite, Helez the Pelonite,

28 Ira mwana wa Ikeshi kutoka Tekoa, Abiezeri kutoka Anathothi,

Ira son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, Abi-Ezer the Annethothite,

29 Sibekai Mhushathi, Ilai Mwahohi,

Sibbecai the Hushathite, Ilai the Ahohite,
