Salmos 78

1 Escucha, oh mi pueblo, a mi ley; deja que tus oídos se inclinen a las palabras de mi boca.

The understanding of Asaph. O my people, attend to my law. Incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

2 Abriendo mi boca voy a dar una historia, incluso los dichos oscuros de los viejos tiempos;

I will open my mouth in parables. I will speak about concepts that are from the beginning.

3 Que han venido a nuestro oído y a nuestro conocimiento, tal como nos fueron dados por nuestros padres.

We have heard and known such great things, as our fathers have described to us.

4 No los mantendremos en secreto de nuestros hijos; aclararemos a la generación venidera las alabanzas del Señor y su fortaleza, y las grandes obras de asombro que ha hecho.

These things have not been hidden from their sons in any generation: declaring the praises of the Lord, and his virtues, and the wonders that he has done.

5 Puso un testigo en Jacob, e hizo una ley en Israel; que él dio a nuestros padres para que pudieran darles conocimiento de ellos a sus hijos;

And he has received testimony with Jacob, and he has set a law within Israel. Such great things, he has commanded our fathers, so as to make these things known to their sons,

6 Para que la generación venidera pueda tener conocimiento de ellos, incluso de los hijos del futuro, que les den a conocer a sus hijos;

so that another generation might know them, and so that the sons, who will be born and who will grow up, shall describe them to their sons.

7 Para que pongan su esperanza en Dios, y no dejen que las obras de Dios se salgan de sus mentes, sino que guarden sus leyes;

So then, may they put their hope in God, and may they not forget the works of God, and may they seek his commandments.

8 y no sean como sus padres, una generación dura e incontrolada; una generación cuyo corazón era duro, cuyo espíritu no era fiel a Dios.

May they not become like their fathers, a perverse and exasperating generation: a generation that does not straighten their heart and whose spirit is not trustworthy with God.

9 Los hijos de Efraín, armados con arcos, volvieron las espaldas en el día de la pelea.

The sons of Ephraim, who bend and shoot the bow, have been turned back in the day of battle.

10 No fueron gobernados por la palabra de Dios, y no quisieron ir en el camino de su ley;

They have not kept the covenant of God. And they were not willing to walk in his law.

11 Dejaron sus obras fuera de su memoria, y las maravillas que les había hecho ver.

And they have been forgetful of his benefits, and of his miracle, which he revealed to them.

12 Hizo grandes obras delante de sus padres, en la tierra de Egipto, en los campos de Zoán.

He performed miracles in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Tanis.

13 El mar fue cortado en dos para que pudieran pasar; las aguas se juntaron de lado a lado.

He broke the sea and he led them through. And he stationed the waters, as if in a vessel.

14 Durante el día los guiaba en la nube, y durante toda la noche con una luz de fuego.

And he led them with a cloud by day, and with illumination by fire throughout the night.

15 Las rocas del desierto fueron quebradas por su poder, y él les dio a beber como de las aguas profundas.

He broke through the rock in the wasteland, and he gave them to drink, as if from the great abyss.

16 Hizo salir arroyos de la peña; y las aguas descender como ríos.

He brought forth water from the rock, and he conducted the waters, as if they were rivers.

17 Y siguieron pecando contra él aún más, apartándose del Altísimo en el desierto;

And yet, they continued to sin against him. In a waterless place, they provoked the Most High with resentment.

18 Probando a Dios en sus corazones, pidiendo carne por su deseo.

And they tempted God in their hearts, by asking for food according to their desires.

19 Dijeron palabras crueles contra Dios, diciendo: ¿Puede Dios preparar una mesa en el desierto?

And they spoke badly about God. They said, “Would God be able to prepare a table in the desert?

20 Mira, la roca fue cortada por su poder, por lo que el agua salió corriendo, y arroyos desbordantes; ¿él puede darnos pan? ¿es capaz de obtener carne para su gente?

He struck the rock, and so waters flowed and the torrents flooded, but would even he be able to provide bread, or provide a table, for his people?”

21 Así que estas cosas vinieron a oídos del Señor, y él se enojó; y se encendió un fuego contra Jacob, y vino la ira contra Israel;

Therefore, the Lord heard, and he was dismayed, and a fire was kindled within Jacob, and an anger ascended into Israel.

22 Porque no tenían fe en Dios, ni esperanza en su salvación.

For they neither put their trust in God, nor did they hope in his salvation.

23 Y dio órdenes a las nubes en lo alto, y las puertas del cielo estaban abiertas;

And he commanded the clouds from above, and he opened the doors of heaven.

24 Y envió como lluvia de maná, y les dio el grano del cielo.

And he rained down manna upon them to eat, and he gave them the bread of heaven.

25 El hombre tomó parte en el alimento de los ángeles; les envió carne en toda su medida.

Man ate the bread of Angels. He sent them provisions in abundance.

26 Envió un viento del este del cielo, impulsando el viento del sur con su poder.

He transferred the south wind from heaven, and, in his virtue, he brought in the Southwest wind.

27 Envió carne sobre ellos como el polvo, y aves emplumadas como la arena del mar,

And he rained down flesh upon them, as if it were dust, and feathered birds, as if they were the sand of the sea.

28 Y él dejó que baje a su lugar de descanso, alrededor de sus tiendas.

And they fell down in the midst of their camp, encircling their tabernacles.

29 Así que tenían comida y estaban llenos; porque él les dio su deseo;

And they ate until they were greatly satisfied, and he brought to them according to their desires.

30 Pero no se apartaron de sus deseos; y mientras la comida todavía estaba en sus bocas,

They were not cheated out of what they wanted. Their food was still in their mouth,

31 Vino sobre ellos la ira de Dios, y mató a los más robustos, y acabó con los jóvenes de Israel.

and then the wrath of God came upon them. And he slew the fat ones among them, and he impeded the elect of Israel.

32 Por todo esto siguieron pecando aún más, y no tuvieron fe en sus grandes maravillas.

In all these things, they continued to sin, and they were not trustworthy with his miracles.

33 Así que sus días fueron desperdiciados como un aliento, y sus años en problemas.

And their days faded away into vanity, and their years with haste.

34 Cuando les mandó la muerte, lo buscaron; entonces se volvían a él buscándolo con cuidado;

When he slew them, then they sought him. And they returned, and they drew near to him in the early morning.

35 Entonces se acordaban que Dios era su Roca, y el Dios Altísimo su salvador.

And they were mindful that God is their helper and that the Most High God is their redeemer.

36 Pero sus labios y lengua le eran falsos;

And they chose him with their mouth, and then they lied to him with their tongue.

37 Y sus corazones no estaban bien con él, y no guardaron su pacto con él.

For their heart was not upright with him, nor have they been living faithfully in his covenant.

38 Pero él, lleno de piedad, tiene perdón por el pecado, y no pone fin al hombre: frecuentemente retracta su ira, y no se enoja violentamente.

Yet he is merciful, and he will pardon their sins. And he will not destroy them. And he has abundantly turned aside his own wrath. And he did not enflame his wrath entirely.

39 Así que tuvo en cuenta que ellos eran solo carne; un aliento que se va rápidamente, y no volverá.

And he remembered that they are flesh: with a spirit that goes forth and does not return.

40 ¡Con qué frecuencia iban contra él en el desierto. y le daban motivo de aflicción en el desierto!

How often did they provoke him in the desert and stir him to wrath in a waterless place?

41 Otra vez pusieron a Dios a prueba, y le dieron dolor al Santo de Israel.

And they turned back and tempted God, and they exasperated the Holy One of Israel.

42 No tuvieron en cuenta el trabajo de su mano, ni el día en que los quitó del poder de sus enemigos;

They did not remember his hand, in the day that he redeemed them from the hand of the one troubling them.

43 cómo hizo sus señales en Egipto, y sus maravillas en el campo de Zoán;

Thus, he positioned his signs in Egypt and his wonders in the field of Tanis.

44 De modo que sus ríos se convirtieron en sangre, y no pudieron beber de sus arroyos.

And he turned their rivers into blood, along with their rain showers, so that they could not drink.

45 Envió diferentes tipos de moscas entre ellos, envenenando su carne; y ranas para su destrucción.

He sent among them the common fly, and it devoured them, and the frog, and it scattered them.

46 El dio el aumento de sus campos a los gusanos, los frutos de su industria a los saltamontes.

And he gave up their fruits to mold and their labors to the locust.

47 Envió hielo para la destrucción de sus vides; sus árboles fueron dañados por el frío glacial.

And he slew their vineyards with hail and their mulberry trees with severe frost.

48 Hielo fue llovido sobre su ganado; tormentas eléctricas enviaron destrucción entre las bandadas.

And he delivered their cattle to the hail and their possessions to fire.

49 Envió sobre ellos el ardor de su ira, su amargo disgusto, y liberó ángeles malvados entre ellos.

And he sent the wrath of his indignation among them: indignation and wrath and tribulation, sent forth by evil angels.

50 Dejó que su ira se saliera con la suya; él no retuvo su alma de la muerte, sino que dio su vida a la enfermedad.

He made way for the path of his anger. He did not spare their souls from death. And he enclosed their beasts of burden in death.

51 Él dio a la destrucción a todos los primeros hijos de Egipto; los primeros frutos de su fuerza en las tiendas de Cam;

And he struck all the first-born in the land of Egypt: the first-fruits of all their labor in the tabernacles of Ham.

52 Pero él tomó a su pueblo como ovejas, y los guió en la tierra desolada como un rebaño.

And he took away his own people like sheep, and he led them through the wilderness like a flock.

53 Los llevó a salvo para que no tuvieran miedo; pero sus enemigos estaban cubiertos por el mar.

And he led them out in hope, and they did not fear. And the sea covered their enemies.

54 Y él fue su guía a su tierra santa, hasta el monte que su diestra había hecho suyo;

And he led them to the mountain of his sanctification: the mountain that his right hand had acquired. And he cast out the Gentiles before their face. And he divided their land by lot to them, with a line of distribution.

55 Expulsando naciones delante de ellos, marcando la línea de su herencia, y dando a las personas de Israel sus tiendas para un lugar de descanso.

And he caused the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tabernacles.

56 Pero ellos se amargaron contra el Dios Altísimo, lo probaron y no guardaron sus leyes;

Yet they tempted and aggravated God Most High, and they did not keep his testaments.

57 Sus corazones se volvieron atrás y falsos como sus padres; fueron convertidos a un lado como un arco retorcido.

And they turned themselves aside, and they did not serve the covenant. In the same manner as their fathers, they were turned backwards, like a crooked bow.

58 Le enojaron con sus altares paganos; adorando ídolos, lo provocaron a celos.

They impelled him to anger on their hills, and they provoked him to rivalry with their graven images.

59 Cuando esto llegó a oídos de Dios, se enojó mucho y abandonó a Israel por completo;

God listened, and he spurned them, and he reduced Israel greatly, almost to nothing.

60 Y se fué del lugar santo en Silo, la tienda que había puesto entre los hombres;

And he rejected the tabernacle of Shiloh, his tabernacle where he had dwelt among men.

61 Y permitió que sus enemigos capturaran él símbolo de su poder y gloria.

And he delivered their virtue into captivity, and their beauty into the hands of the enemy.

62 Él entregó a su pueblo a la espada, y se enojó con su pueblo.

And he enclosed his people with the sword, and he spurned his inheritance.

63 Sus jóvenes fueron quemados en el fuego; y sus vírgenes no fueron alabadas en la canción de la novia.

Fire consumed their young men, and their virgins were not lamented.

64 Sus sacerdotes fueron muertos a espada, y sus viudas no lloraron por ellos.

Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows did not weep.

65 Entonces el Señor era como el que se despierta del sueño, y como un hombre fuerte que clama por el vino.

And the Lord was awakened, as if out of sleep, and like a powerful man impaired by wine.

66 Sus enemigos fueron rechazados por sus golpes y avergonzados para siempre.

And he struck his enemies on the back. He gave them over to everlasting disgrace.

67 Y puso la tienda de José a un lado, y no tomó la tribu de Efraín;

And he rejected the tabernacle of Joseph, and he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim.

68 Pero él tomó la tribu de Judá para sí, y el monte de Sión, en el cual tuvo placer.

But he chose the tribe of Judah: mount Zion, which he loved.

69 E hizo su lugar santo como el alto cielo, como la tierra que él fija para siempre.

And he built up his sanctuary, like a single-horned beast, in the land that he founded for all ages.

70 Tomó a David para que fuera su siervo, y lo llevó del lugar de las ovejas;

And he chose his servant David, and he took him from the flocks of the sheep: he received him from following the ewes with their young,

71 De cuidar las ovejas que daban leche, lo llevó a dar de comer a Jacob su pueblo, y a Israel su heredad.

in order to pasture Jacob his servant and Israel his inheritance.

72 Y David cuido del pueblo de Dios. Los cuido y dirigió con mano hábil y corazón sincero.

And he fed them with the innocence of his heart. And he led them with the understanding of his hands.
