Proverbios 23
1 Cuando tomes asiento en la fiesta con un gobernante, piensa con cuidado en lo que tiene delante;
When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:
2 Y controla tu hambre, si tienes un fuerte deseo de comer.
For thou puttest a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man of a craving desire.
3 No desees su alimento delicado, porque es el pan del engaño.
Do not long for his savory meats; they are deceitful food.
4 No te preocupes por obtener riqueza; deja que termine tu deseo de dinero.
Fatigue thyself not to become rich; because thou hast understanding, forbear.
5 ¿Se te alzan los ojos? se ha ido: porque la riqueza se harán alas, como un águila en vuelo hacia el cielo.
When thou lettest merely thy eyes fly over it, it is no more: for it will ever make itself wings: like an eagle will it fly toward heaven.
6 No tomes la comida del que tiene ojos perversos, ni tengas ningún deseo por su delicada carne;
Eat not the bread of a man with an evil eye, and do not long for his savory meats;
7 porque como los pensamientos de su corazón son, así es él: Toma comida y bebida, él te dice; pero su corazón no está contigo.
For as though there were a division in his soul, so doth he act: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
8 El alimento que has tomado lo vomitarás, y tus palabras agradables serán desperdiciadas.
Thy morsel which thou hast eaten must thou spit out, and thou hast wasted thy pleasant words.
9 No digas nada al oído de un hombre necio, porque no valorará la sabiduría de tus palabras.
Speak not before the ears of a fool; for he will despise the intelligence of thy words.
10 No dejes que se mueva el lindero de la viuda, y no vayas a los campos de los que no tienen padre;
Remove not the ancient landmark, and into the fields of the fatherless must thou not enter;
11 Porque su salvador es fuerte, y él tomará su causa contra ti.
For their redeemer is strong; he will indeed plead their cause with thee.
12 Da tu corazón a la enseñanza, y tus oídos a las palabras del conocimiento.
Apply thy heart unto instruction, and thy ears to the sayings of knowledge.
13 No retires el entrenamiento del niño: porque incluso si le das golpes con la vara, no será la muerte para él.
Withhold not from a lad correction; for if thou beat him with the rod, he will not die.
Thou wilt indeed beat him with the rod; but thou wilt deliver his soul from perdition. (Sheol h7585)
15 Hijo mío, si tu corazón se vuelve sabio, yo también, me alegraré de corazón;
My son, If thy heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.
16 Y mis pensamientos en mí estarán llenos de alegría cuando tus labios digan lo correcto.
And my reins shall exult when thy lips speak what is equitable.
17 No tengas envidia de pecadores en tu corazón, sino guarda en el temor de Jehová todo el día;
Let not thy heart be envious against sinners; but [remain] in the fear of the lord all the time.
18 Porque sin duda hay un futuro, y tu esperanza no será cortada.
For surely there is a future, and thy hope will not be cut off.
19 Escucha, hijo mío, y sé sabio, guiando tu corazón de la manera correcta.
Hear thou, my son, and become wise, and guide thy heart on the right way.
20 No estés entre los que se entregan al vino, ni entre los que se sacian de la carne:
Be not among those that drink wine immoderately, among those that over-indulge in eating flesh:
21 Porque los que se deleitan en la bebida y la fiesta, tendrán necesidad; y por amor al sueño, un hombre estará pobremente vestido.
For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty; and drowsiness clotheth a man in rags.
22 Escucha a tu padre, de quien eres hijo, y no menosprecies a tu madre cuando sea vieja.
Hearken unto thy father that hath begotten thee, and despise not thy mother although she be old.
23 Consigue para ti lo que es verdad, y no lo dejes ir por dinero; obtener sabiduría y enseñanza y buen sentido.
Buy the truth and sell it not; [also] wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
24 El padre del hombre recto se alegrará, y el que tiene un hijo sabio tendrá gozo por causa de él.
The father of the righteous will be greatly glad, and he that begetteth a wise child will have joy through him.
25 Dejen que su padre y su madre se alegren, que la que te dio a luz se alegren.
Let [then] thy father and thy mother rejoice, and let her that hath born thee be glad.
26 Hijo mío, dame tu corazón, y tus ojos se deleiten en mis caminos.
Give, my son, thy heart unto me, and let thy eyes watch my ways.
27 Porque una mujer prostituta es un profundo hoyo, y una mujer mala es un pozo estrecho y profundo.
For a harlot is a deep ditch, and a strange woman is a narrow well.
28 Sí, ella está esperando secretamente como una bestia por su alimento, y el engaño por ella se incrementa entre los hombres.
She also lieth in wait like a robber, and she increaseth the treacherous among men.
29 ¿Quién dice, Oh! quien dice, ¡Ah! ¿Quién tiene argumentos violentos? quién tiene dolor? quién tiene heridas sin causa? y ojos oscuros?
Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath quarrels? who hath complaints? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
30 Aquellos que se sientan tarde sobre el vino: aquellos que buscan vino mezclado.
They that tarry late over the wine: they that come to seek for mixed drink.
31 Evita que tus ojos miren el vino cuando está rojo, cuando su color es brillante en la taza, cuando baja suavemente;
Do not look on the wine when it looketh red, when it giveth its color in the cup, when it glideth down so readily.
32 Al final, su mordisco es como el de una serpiente, su herida como la herida de un serpiente venenosa.
At the last it will bite like a serpent, and like a basilisk will it sting.
33 Tus ojos verán cosas extrañas, y dirás cosas retorcidas.
Thy eyes will see strange forms, and thy heart will speak perverse things.
34 Sí, serás como el que descansa en el mar o en la parte superior de un mástil.
And thou wilt be like one that lieth down in the heart of the sea, or as he that lieth on the top of a mast.
35 Ellos me han vencido, tú dirás: y no tengo dolor; me dieron golpes sin que los sintiera: ¿cuándo estaré despierto de mi vino? Voy a buscarlo de nuevo.
“They smote me, [but] I suffered no pain; they struck me hard, [but] I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will continue to seek it again.”
