Proverbios 18
1 El que se mantiene separado para su propósito privado va en contra de todo buen sentido.
Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh [and] intermeddleth with all wisdom.
2 Un hombre necio no tiene placer en él entendimiento, sino sólo para que lo que está en su corazón salga a la luz.
A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.
3 Cuando llega el malhechor, una baja opinión viene con él, y con la pérdida del honor viene la vergüenza.
When the wicked cometh, [then] cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
4 Las palabras de la boca de un hombre son como aguas profundas; la fuente de la sabiduría es como una corriente que fluye.
The words of a man’s mouth [are as] deep waters, [and] the wellspring of wisdom [as] a flowing brook.
5 Tener respeto por la persona del malhechor no es bueno, o dar una decisión equivocada contra el recto.
[It is] not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
6 Los labios de un hombre necio son causa de pelea, y su boca lo abre a los golpes.
A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.
7 La boca del necio es su destrucción, y sus labios son una red para su alma.
A fool’s mouth [is] his destruction, and his lips [are] the snare of his soul.
8 Las palabras de uno que dice mal de su prójimo en secreto son como alimento dulce, y descienden a las partes internas del estómago.
The words of a talebearer [are] as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
9 El que no piensa en su obra, es hermano del que hace destrucción.
He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.
10 El nombre del Señor es una torre fuerte: el hombre recto que corre hacia ella está a salvo.
The name of the LORD [is] a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
11 La propiedad de un hombre rico es su pueblo fuerte, y es como un alto muro en los pensamientos de su corazón.
The rich man’s wealth [is] his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.
12 Antes de la destrucción, el corazón del hombre está lleno de orgullo, y antes el honor es un espíritu gentil.
Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour [is] humility.
13 Dar una respuesta antes de oír es una necedad y una causa de vergüenza.
He that answereth a matter before he heareth [it], it [is] folly and shame unto him.
14 El espíritu de un hombre será su apoyo cuando esté enfermo; pero, ¿cómo puede levantarse un espíritu quebrantado?
The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?
15 El corazón del hombre de buen sentido obtiene conocimiento; el oído del sabio está buscando conocimiento.
The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
16 La ofrenda de un hombre le hace lugar, dejándolo ir delante de grandes hombres.
A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
17 El hombre que primero presenta su causa ante el juez parece tener razón; pero luego viene su vecino y pone su causa y expone la verdad.
[He that is] first in his own cause [seemeth] just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.
18 La decisión del azar pone fin a la discusión, separando al fuerte.
The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
19 Un hermano herido es como una ciudad amurallada, y los actos violentos separan como las rejas de una torre cerrada.
A brother offended [is harder to be won] than a strong city: and [their] contentions [are] like the bars of a castle.
20 Con el fruto de la boca de un hombre, su estómago estará lleno; el producto de sus labios será suyo en toda su extensión.
A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; [and] with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
21 La muerte y la vida están en poder de la lengua; y aquellos a quienes les es querido tendrán su fruto para su alimento.
Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
22 El que tiene esposa obtiene algo bueno, y tiene la aprobación del Señor.
[Whoso] findeth a wife findeth a good [thing], and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
23 El pobre hace peticiones de gracia, pero el hombre rico da una respuesta áspera.
The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.
24 Hay amigos que pueden ser la destrucción de un hombre, pero hay amigos que se mantiene más cerca que un hermano.
A man [that hath] friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend [that] sticketh closer than a brother.
