Números 23

1 Y Balaam dijo a Balac: Hazme aquí siete altares y prepara siete bueyes y siete ovejas.

Then said Balaam unto Balak: Build me here seven altars, —and prepare me here, seven bullocks and seven rams.

2 E hizo Balac como Balaam había dicho; y Balac y Balaam hicieron una ofrenda en cada altar de un buey y una oveja.

And Balak did as Balaam had spoken, —and Balak and Balaam caused to ascend a bullock and a ram on each altar.

3 Entonces Balaam dijo a Balac: Toma tu lugar junto a tu ofrenda quemada, y yo iré a ver si el Señor viene a mí, y te daré la noticia de lo que me diga. Y se fue a un lugar desolado en una colina.

Then said Balaam unto Balak: Station thyself by thine ascending-sacrifice, and let me go my way—peradventure Yahweh may come and meet me, and what thing soever he may show me, I will tell thee. So he went his way to a bare height.

4 Y vino Dios a Balaam, y Balaam le dijo: He preparado siete altares, ofreciendo un buey y un carnero en cada altar.

And God came unto Balaam, —so he said unto him The seven altars, have I built in a row, and have caused to ascend, bullock and a ram on each altar.

5 Y Jehová puso palabras en la boca de Balaam, y dijo: Vuelve a Balac, y esto es lo que debes decir.

And Yahweh put a word into the mouth of Balaam, —and said—Return unto Balak, and, thus, shalt thou speak.

6 Volvió a él donde esperaba, junto a su ofrenda quemada, con todos los jefes de Moab.

So he returned unto him, and lo! he was stationed by his ascending-sacrifice, —he, and all the princes of Moab.

7 Y en las palabras que el Señor le había dado, dijo: Desde Aram Balac ha enviado por mí al rey de Moab desde las montañas del este, ven, pon maldiciones a Jacob por mí y desea el mal contra Israel.

So he took up his parable and said, —From Aram, doth Balak conduct me, The king of Moab, from the mountains of the East, Come thou! curse me Jacob, Yea, come thou! rage on Israel.

8 ¿Cómo puedo poner maldiciones sobre el que no es maldito por Dios? ¿Cómo puedo desear el mal a aquel con quien el Señor no lo hace?

How can I revile one whom GOD hath not reviled? Yea, how can I rage on one on whom Yahweh hath not raged?

9 Desde lo alto de las rocas lo veo, mirándolo desde las colinas: es un pueblo separado, no para ser contado entre las naciones.

Surely from the head of the rocks, do I see him, Yea, from the hills, do I observe him, —Lo! a people, who alone doth dwell, And among the nations, he doth not reckon himself.

10 ¿Quién puede tomar la medida del polvo de Jacob o el número de los miles de Israel? ¡Que mi muerte sea la muerte de los rectos y mi último fin como el suyo!

Who hath counted the dust of Jacob? Or who hath numbered the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the upright, And let my hereafter be like his!

11 Entonces Balac dijo a Balaam: ¿Qué me has hecho? Envié por ti para que mis enemigos fueran maldecidos, y mira, les has dado una bendición.

Then said Balak unto Balaam, What hast thou done for me? To revile mine enemies, I summoned thee, and lo! thou hast kept on blessing.

12 Y en respuesta, dijo: ¿No tengo orden de decir solo lo que el Señor pone en mi boca?

And he answered and said, —Was it not to be so that whatsoever Yahweh should put into my mouth, the same, should I take heed to speak?

13 Y Balac le dijo: Ven conmigo ahora a otro lugar desde el que no puedas verlos a todos, sino solo a sus alrededores; Y les enviarás maldiciones desde allí.

Then said Balak unto him—Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see him, nothing but his utmost part, shalt thou see, but all of him, shalt thou not see, —and so revile me him from thence.

14 Entonces lo llevó al país de Zofim, a la cumbre de Pisga, y allí hicieron siete altares, ofreciendo un buey y un macho oveja en cada altar.

And he took him to the field of Zophim, unto the head of Pisgah, —and built seven altars, and caused to ascend a bullock and a ram on each altar.

15 Y dijo a Balac: Toma tu lugar aquí con tu holocausto, mientras yo voy al Señor.

Then said he to Balak, Station thyself here by thine ascending-sacrifice, —while, I, meet him yonder.

16 Y vino él Señor a Balaam, y puso palabras en su boca, y dijo: Vuelve a Balac, y esto es lo que tienes que decir.

And Yahweh met Balaam, and put a word into his mouth, —and said—Return unto Balak and thus shalt thou speak.

17 Entonces se acercó a él donde esperaba, junto a su ofrenda quemada, con los jefes de Moab a su lado. Y Balac le dijo: ¿Qué ha dicho el Señor?

So he came in unto him and, there he was-stationed by his ascending-sacrifice, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath Yahweh spoken?

18 Y en las palabras que el Señor le había dado, dijo: ¡Arriba! Balac, y presta oído; Préstame atención, oh hijo de Zipor:

Then took he up his parable and said, —Rise, Balak, and hear, Give ear unto me son of Zippor!

19 Dios no es hombre, para que mienta; o el hijo del hombre, para que se arrepienta. Lo que él ha dicho, ¿no hará? ¿Y no dará efecto las palabras de su boca?

GOD is, not a man, that he should lie, Nor a son of Adam, that he should repent, —Hath, he, said, and will not perform? Yea spoken, and will not make it stand fast?

20 Mira, he recibido órdenes de dar bendiciones, y él ha dado una bendición que no tengo poder que quitar.

Lo! to bless, have I received [command], —And I will bless, nor will I take it back.

21 No ha visto maldad en Jacob ni maldad en Israel: el Señor su Dios está con él, y el grito alegre de un rey está entre ellos.

He hath not discovered trouble in Jacob, Neither hath he seen wretchedness in Israel, —Yahweh, his God, is with him, And, the acclaim of a king, in his midst:

22 Es Dios quien los ha sacado de Egipto; con fuerzas como de búfalo de la montaña.

GOD having brought them forth out of Egypt, The very horns of the buffalo, are his:

23 Ningún poder maligno tiene efecto contra Jacob, no hay adivinación contra Israel; en el momento adecuado se dirá de Jacob y de Israel: ¡Vea lo que Dios ha hecho!

Surely, there is no enchantment against Jacob, Nor divination against Israel, —Now, shall it be said—Of Jacob and of Israel, What hath GOD wrought!

24 Mira, Israel sube como una leona y se levanta como un león, no descansará hasta que haya comido a los que ha vencido, bebiendo la sangre de los que ha dado muerte.

Lo, a people, like a lioness, shall rise, And like a strong lion, shall rouse himself up; He will not lie down till he eat the torn, And the blood of the slain, he drink.

25 Entonces Balac dijo a Balaam: Si no los maldices, en todo caso no les des bendiciones.

Then said Balak unto Balaam, Thou shalt neither revile, him, —nor bless him.

26 Pero Balaam, en respuesta, dijo a Balac: ¿No te dije que solo podía hacer lo que el Señor dice?

And Balaam responded, and said unto Balak, —Spake I not unto thee, saying, All that Yahweh shall speak, that, must I do?

27 Entonces Balac dijo a Balaam: Ven, te llevaré a otro lugar; puede ser que Dios te permita ponerles una maldición desde allí.

And Balak said unto Balaam, Come, I pray thee! let me take thee unto another place, —peradventure, it may be right in the eyes of God, that thou revile me him. from thence.

28 Entonces Balac llevó a Balaam a la cima de Peor, mirando hacia abajo sobre el desierto.

So Balak took Balaam, —unto the head of Peor, that looketh over the face of the Jeshimon.

29 Y Balaam dijo a Balac: Hazme siete altares aquí y prepara siete becerros y siete carneros siete ovejas macho.

And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here, seven altars, —and prepare me here, seven bullocks and seven rams.

30 Y Balac hizo lo que Balaam dijo, ofreciendo un becerro y un carnero en cada altar.

And Balak did as Balaam said, —and caused to ascend a bullock and a ram on each altar.
