Nehemías 6

1 Cuando Sanbalat, Tobías, Gesem el árabe y el resto de nuestros enemigos nos dieron la noticia de que yo había hecho la construcción del muro y que no había más lugares rotos en él, aunque incluso entonces no había puesto las puertas en las puertas;

And it cometh to pass, when it hath been heard by Sanballat, and Tobiah, and by Geshem the Arabian, and by the rest of our enemies, that I have builded the wall, and there hath not been left in it a breach, (also, till that time the doors I had not set up in the gates, )

2 Sanbalat y Gesem me enviaron diciendo: Vengan, tengamos una reunión en uno de los pueblos pequeños en la tierra baja de Ono. Pero su propósito era hacerme mal.

that Sanballat sendeth, also Geshem, unto me, saying, 'Come and we meet together in the villages, in the valley of Ono;' and they are thinking to do to me evil.

3 Y les envié a los hombres diciendo: Estoy haciendo un gran trabajo, y no puedo ir; ¿se debe detener el trabajo mientras me alejo de él y vengo a ustedes?

And I send unto them messengers, saying, 'A great work I am doing, and I am not able to come down; why doth the work cease when I let it alone, and have come down unto you?'

4 Y cuatro veces me enviaron de esta manera, y yo les envié la misma respuesta.

and they send unto me, according to this word, four times, and I return them [word] according to this word.

5 Entonces Sanbalat me envió a su criado por quinta vez con una carta abierta en la mano;

And Sanballat sendeth unto me, according to this word, a fifth time, his servant, and an open letter in his hand;

6 Y en esto se registraron estas palabras: Se dice entre las naciones, y Gesem lo dice, que ustedes y los judíos esperan liberarse de la autoridad del rey; y esta es la razón por la que estás construyendo el muro: y dicen que es tu propósito ser su rey;

it is written in it, 'Among the nations it hath been heard, and Gashmu is saying: Thou and the Jews are thinking to rebel, therefore thou art building the wall, and thou hast been to them for a king — according to these words!

7 Y que hay profetas que predican sobre ti en Jerusalén, y dicen: Hay un rey en Judá; ahora se enviará un relato de estas cosas al rey. Así que ven ahora, y vamos a tener una discusión.

And also, prophets thou hast appointed to call for thee in Jerusalem, saying, A king [is] in Judah, and now it is heard by the king according to these words; and now come, and we take counsel together.'

8 Entonces le envié a él, diciéndole: No se están haciendo tales cosas como usted dice, son solo una ficción que usted mismo ha inventado.

And I send unto him, saying, 'It hath not been according to these words that thou art saying, for from thine own heart thou art devising them;'

9 porque esperaban atemorizarnos, diciendo: Sus manos se debilitarán y abandonarán el trabajo para que no se haga. Pero ahora, oh Dios, fortalece mis manos.

for all of them are making us afraid, saying, 'Their hands are too feeble for the work, and it is not done;' and now, strengthen Thou my hands.

10 Y fui a la casa de Semaías, el hijo de Delaía, el hijo de Mehetabel, que estaba encerrado; y él dijo: Reunámonos en la casa de Dios, dentro del Templo, y que se cierren las puertas, porque vendrán a matarte; En verdad, en la noche vendrán a matarte.

And I have entered the house of Shemaiah son of Delaiah, son of Mehetabeel — and he is restrained — and he saith, 'Let us meet at the house of God, at the inside of the temple, and we shut the doors of the temple, for they are coming in to slay thee — yea, by night they are coming in to slay thee.'

11 Y dije: ¿Soy el tipo de hombre que va a huir? ¿Qué hombre, en mi posición, iría al Templo para mantenerse a salvo? No voy a entrar.

And I say, 'A man such as I — doth he flee? and who as I, that doth go in unto the temple, and live? — I do not go in.'

12 Entonces me di cuenta de que Dios no lo había enviado: él mismo había dado esta palabra de profeta contra mí, y Tobías y Sanbalat le habían dado dinero para que lo hiciera.

And I discern, and lo, God hath not sent him, for in the prophecy he hath spoken unto me both Tobiah and Sanballat hired him,

13 Por esta razón le habían dado dinero, para que yo pudiera ser vencido por el miedo y hacer lo que él dijo y hacer mal, y así tendrían razones para hablar mal de mí y avergonzarme.

so that he [is] an hireling, that I may fear and do so, and I had sinned, and it had been to them for an evil name that they may reproach me.

14 Ten en mente, oh Dios mío, Tobías y Sanbalat y lo que hicieron, y Noadías, la mujer profeta y el resto de los profetas, cuyo propósito era poner miedo en mí.

Be mindful, O my God, of Tobiah, and of Sanballat, according to these his works, and also, of Noadiah the prophetess, and of the rest of the prophets who have been making me afraid.

15 Así que la pared se completó el día veinticinco del mes Elul, en cincuenta y dos días.

And the wall is completed in the twenty and fifth of Elul, on the fifty and second day;

16 Y cuando nuestros enemigos supieron esto, todas las naciones que nos rodeaban se llenaron de temor y se sintieron muy humillados, porque vieron que Dios había hecho esta obra.

and it cometh to pass, when all our enemies have heard, and all the nations who are round about us see, that they fall greatly in their own eyes, and know that by our God hath this work been done.

17 Y además, en aquellos días los jefes de Judá enviaron varias cartas a Tobías, y sus cartas llegaron a ellos.

Also, in those days the freemen of Judah are multiplying their letters going unto Tobiah, and those of Tobiah are coming in unto them;

18 Porque en Judá había varias personas que habían hecho un acuerdo con él, porque era el yerno de Secanías, el hijo de Ara; y su hijo Johanán había tomado por mujer a su hija de Mesulam, el hijo de Berequías.

for many in Judah are sworn to him, for he [is] son-in-law to Shechaniah son of Arah, and Jehohanan his son hath taken the daughter of Meshullam son of Berechiah;

19 Y lo elogiaban en mi presencia, acerca del bien que había hecho, y le contaron mis palabras. Y Tobías por su parte me enviaba cartas con el propósito de atemorizarme.

also, his good deeds they have been saying before me, and my words they have been taking out to him; letters hath Tobiah sent to make me afraid.
