Nehemías 5
1 Entonces hubo un gran clamor del pueblo y sus esposas contra sus compatriotas, los judíos.
And there is a great cry of the people and their wives, concerning their brothers the Jews,
2 Porque hubo algunos que dijeron: Nosotros, nuestros hijos y nuestras hijas, somos un gran número; obtengamos grano, para que podamos tener alimento para nuestras necesidades.
indeed, there are [those] who are saying, “Our sons, and our daughters, we—are many, and we receive grain, and eat, and live.”
3 Y hubo algunos que dijeron: Estamos dando nuestros campos y nuestros viñedos y nuestras casas a cambio; obtengamos grano porque estamos en necesidad.
And there are [those] who are saying, “Our fields, and our vineyards, and our houses, we are pledging, and we receive grain for the famine.”
4 Y hubo otros que dijeron: Hemos dado en garantía nuestros campos y nuestros viñedos para obtener dinero para los impuestos del rey.
And there are [those] who are saying, “We have borrowed money for the tribute of the king, [on] our fields, and our vineyards;
5 Pero nuestra carne es igual a la carne de nuestros compatriotas, y nuestros hijos como sus hijos, y ahora estamos entregando a nuestros hijos e hijas en manos de otros, para que sean sus sirvientes, y algunas de nuestras hijas son sirvientas incluso ahora, y no tenemos poder para detenerlo; Porque otros hombres tienen nuestros campos y nuestros viñedos.
and now, as the flesh of our brothers [is] our flesh, as their sons [are] our sons, and behold, we are subduing our sons and our daughters for servants, and there are [those] of our daughters subdued, and our hand has no might, and our fields and our vineyards [are] to others.”
6 Y al escuchar su clamor y lo que dijeron, estaba muy enojado.
And it is very displeasing to me when I have heard their cry and these words,
7 Y después de pensarlo, hice una protesta a los jefes y los gobernantes, por imponer una carga tal a sus compatriotas. Y convoque una gran reunión para tratar el caso.
and my heart reigns over me, and I strive with the nobles, and with the prefects, and say to them, “You are exacting usury on one another”; and I set against them a great assembly,
8 Y les dije: Hemos dado todo lo que pudimos dar, para hacer libres a nuestros hermanos judíos, que eran siervos y prisioneros de las naciones; y ahora, ¿renunciarían a sus hermanos para venderlos otra vez, y ¿Se convertirán en nuestra propiedad? Entonces no dijeron nada, respondiendo ni una palabra.
and say to them, “We have acquired our brothers the Jews, those sold to the nations, according to the ability that [is] in us, and you also sell your brothers, and they have been sold to us!” And they are silent, and have not found a word.
9 Y dije: Lo que están haciendo no está bien; ¿no es más necesario que vayas con el temor de nuestro Dios, por la vergüenza de las naciones enemigas nuestras?
And I say, “The thing that you are doing [is] not good; do you not walk in the fear of our God, because of the reproach of the nations our enemies?
10 Incluso yo y mis sirvientes hemos estado tomando interés por el dinero y el grano que les hemos dejado tener. Así que ahora, dejemos está usura.
And also, I, my brothers, and my servants, are exacting silver and grain on them; please let us leave off this usury.
11 Devuélvanles hoy mismo sus campos, sus viñedos, sus olivares y sus casas, y la centésima parte, del grano y el vino y el aceite que demandan de ellos.
Please give back to them, as today, their fields, their vineyards, their olive-yards, and their houses, and the hundredth [part] of the money, and of the grain, of the new wine, and of the oil, that you are exacting of them.”
12 Entonces ellos dijeron: Les devolveremos, y no tomaremos nada de ellos; Haremos lo que tu digas. Luego envié a los sacerdotes y les hice jurar que mantendrían este acuerdo.
And they say, “We give back, and we seek nothing from them; so we do as you are saying.” And I call the priests, and cause them to swear to do according to this thing;
13 Y sacudiendo los pliegues de mi túnica, dije: Que Dios envíe de su casa y de su trabajo a todo hombre que no cumpla con este acuerdo; así sea sacudido y despojado. Y toda la reunión de la gente dijo: “Así sea, y alabó al Señor”. Y la gente hizo lo que había dicho.
also, I have shaken my lap, and I say, “Thus God shakes out every man from his house and from his labor who does not perform this thing; indeed, thus is he shaken out and empty”; and all the assembly says, “Amen,” and praises YHWH; and the people do according to this thing.
14 Desde el momento en que fui hecho gobernante del pueblo en la tierra de Judá, desde el año veinte hasta el año treinta y dos del rey Artajerjes, durante doce años, yo y mis siervos nunca hemos tomado la comida. Que era el derecho del gobernante.
Also, from the day that he appointed me to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even to the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes the king—twelve years—I, and my brothers, have not eaten the bread of the governor:
15 Pero los gobernantes anteriores que estaban antes de mí hicieron a las personas responsables de su mantenimiento, y tomaron de ellos pan y vino al ritmo de cuarenta siclos de plata; e incluso sus siervos eran señores de la gente: pero no lo hice por el temor de Dios.
the former governors who [are] before me have made themselves heavy on the people, and take of them in bread and wine, besides forty shekels in silver; also, their servants have ruled over the people—and I have not done so, because of the fear of God.
16 Y continué con el trabajo de este muro, y no adquirimos tierra para nosotros mismos, y todos mis sirvientes ayudaron con el trabajo.
And also, in the work of this wall I have done mightily, even a field we have not bought, and all my servants are gathered there for the work;
17 Y más que esto, ciento cincuenta judíos y gobernantes fueron invitados a mi mesa, además de los que vinieron a nosotros desde las naciones que nos rodeaban.
and of the Jews, and of the prefects, one hundred and fifty men, and those coming to us of the nations that [are] around us, [are] at my table;
18 La comida preparada para un día era un buey y seis ovejas gordas, así como aves de corral; y una vez en diez días una bodega de todo tipo de vino; pero, de todos modos, no reclame la pensión a la que tenía derecho el gobernante, porque la carga ya era excesiva sobre la gente.
and that which has been prepared for one day [is] one ox, six fat sheep, also birds have been prepared for me, and once in ten days of all wines abundantly, and with this, the bread of the governor I have not sought, for heavy is the service on this people.
19 Ten en mente, oh Dios mío, por mi bien, todo lo que he hecho por este pueblo.
Remember for me, O my God, for good, all that I have done for this people.
