San Mateo 3
1 Y en aquellos días vino Juan el Bautista a predicar en el desierto de Judea,
In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
2 Diciendo: arrepiéntanse; porque el reino de los cielos está cerca.
And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
3 Porque este es aquel de quien dijo el profeta Isaías: Voz del que clama en el desierto: Prepara el camino del Señor, endereza sus caminos.
For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
4 Ahora Juan estaba vestido de pelo de camello, con una banda de cuero a su alrededor; y su comida era chapulines y miel.
And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.
5 Entonces salió Jerusalén, y toda Judea, y todo el pueblo que estaba cerca del Jordán;
Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
6 Y ellos fueron bautizados por él en el río Jordán, diciendo abiertamente que habían pecado.
And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
7 Pero cuando vio que algunos de los fariseos y saduceos venían a su bautismo, les dijo: generación de serpientes, ¿Quien les enseñó de huir de la ira venidera?
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Pórtense de tal modo que se vea el cambio de corazón en sus obras.
Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
9 Y no pronuncien a sí mismos: Tenemos a Abraham por nuestro padre; porque les digo que Dios puede, hacer de estas piedras, hijos para Abraham.
And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to [our] father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
10 Y aun ahora el hacha está puesta a la raíz de los árboles; cada árbol que no da buen fruto es cortado, y puesto en el fuego.
And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
11 En verdad, les doy el bautismo de agua a aquellos de ustedes cuyos corazones han cambiado; pero el que viene después de mí es más poderoso que yo, cuyo calzado no soy digno de llevar: él les dará el bautismo con el Espíritu Santo y con fuego:
I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and [with] fire:
12 En cuya mano está el instrumento con el que limpiará su grano; él pondrá el grano bueno en su granero, y la paja será quemada en el fuego que nunca se apagará.
Whose fan [is] in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
13 Entonces Jesús vino de Galilea a Juan en el Jordán, para ser bautizado por él.
Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14 Pero Juan al principio se lo quería impedir: Soy yo el que necesito del bautismo de ti, ¿y vienes a mí?
But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15 Respondió Jesús y le dijo: Deja que así sea ahora, porque es justo que hagamos la justicia completa como Dios ha ordenado. Luego le dio el bautismo.
And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer [ it to be so] now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
16 Y Jesús, habiendo sido bautizado, de inmediato subió del agua; y, al abrirse los cielos, vio al Espíritu de Dios que descendía sobre él como una paloma;
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 Y salió una voz del cielo, que decía: Este es mi Hijo amado, en quien tengo complacencia.
And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
