San Mateo 2
1 Cuando el nacimiento de Jesús tuvo lugar en Belén de Judea, en los días del rey Herodes, llegaron hombres magos del oriente a Jerusalén,
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of Herod the king, behold, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem,
2 Diciendo: ¿Dónde está el Rey de los Judíos, cuyo nacimiento ha tenido lugar ahora? Hemos visto su estrella en el este y hemos venido a darle culto.
saying: Where is he that is born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the east, and have come to do him homage.
3 Y cuando llegó el oído del rey Herodes, se turbó, y toda Jerusalén con él.
When Herod the king heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4 Y reunió a todos los principales sacerdotes y escribas del pueblo, preguntándoles dónde estaría el lugar de nacimiento del Cristo.
And when he had assembled all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ should be born.
5 Y ellos le dijeron: En Belén de Judea; porque así está escrito en los escritos del profeta,
And they said to him: In Bethlehem of Judea; for thus it is written by the prophet:
6 Y tú Belén, en la tierra de Judá, no eres la más pequeña entre los príncipes de Judá: de ti saldrá un gobernante, que apacentará a mi pueblo Israel.
And thou, Bethlehem, city of Judah, art by no means the least among the chiefs of Judah; for out of thee shall come a leader, that shall be a shepherd to my people Israel.
7 Entonces Herodes llamó a los hombres magos en privado, y les hizo preguntas sobre a qué hora se había visto la estrella.
Then Herod, when he had secretly called the Magi, inquired of them strictly at what time the star, then visible, first made its appearance:
8 Y los envió a Belén, y dijo: Ve y asegúrate donde está el niño; y cuando lo hayas visto, déjame tener noticias de él, para que pueda venir y darle culto.
and sending them to Bethlehem, he said: Go, make strict inquiry for the young child: and when you have found him, bring me word, that I also may go and do him homage.
9 Y oyendo al rey, se fueron; y la estrella que vieron en el este fue delante de ellos, hasta que se detuvo sobre el lugar donde estaba el niño.
When they had heard the king, they departed; and lo, the star, which they had seen in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over the place where the young child was.
10 Y cuando vieron la estrella, se llenaron de alegría.
And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with very great joy.
11 Y entraron en la casa, y vieron al niño pequeño con María, su madre; y cayendo sobre sus rostros le dieron culto; y abriendo sus tesoros le dieron ofrendas de oro, perfume y Mirra.
And having come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother; and falling down, they did him homage. And when they had opened their treasures, they offered to him gifts, gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
12 Y les fue manifestado por Dios en sueños que no debían regresar a Herodes; entonces ellos entraron a su país por otro camino.
And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed into their own country by another way.
13 Después que partieron ellos, un ángel del Señor vino a José en sueños, y le dijo: Levántate, toma al niño y a su madre, y vete a Egipto, y no vuelvas de allí hasta que yo te dé palabra; porque Herodes estará buscando al niño para matarlo.
When they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying: Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be there till I bring you word; for Herod is about to seek for the young child, to destroy him.
14 Entonces tomó al niño y a su madre de noche, y se fue a Egipto;
And he arose and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt,
15 Y estuvo allí hasta la muerte de Herodes; para que la palabra del Señor por medio del profeta se haga realidad, de Egipto llamé a mi hijo.
and was there till the death of Herod; that the word might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through his prophet, saying: Out of Egypt have I called my Son.
16 Entonces Herodes, cuando vio que había sido engañado por los magos, se enojó mucho; y envió y mató a todos los hijos varones en Belén y en todas las partes de alrededor, desde los dos años y menos, de acuerdo con el tiempo que le habían dicho los magos.
Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the Magi, was greatly enraged, and sent out and slew all the male children that were in Bethlehem and in all its borders, from the age of two years and under, according to the time which he had strictly inquired of the Magi.
17 Entonces la palabra del profeta Jeremías se hizo realidad,
Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying:
18 En Ramá hubo un sonido de llanto y gran tristeza, Raquel llorando por sus hijos, y ella no quiso ser consolada por su pérdida.
A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and weeping, and great mourning; Rachel weeping for her children, and refusing to be comforted because they are no more.
19 Pero cuando Herodes hubo muerto, un ángel del Señor se presentó en sueños a José en Egipto,
But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
20 Diciendo: Levántate, toma al niño y a su madre, y vete a la tierra de Israel; porque los que estaban tratando de tomar la vida del niño pequeño han muerto.
saying: Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel; for they are dead who sought the young child’s life.
21 Entonces él se levantó, y tomó al niño y a su madre, y vino a la tierra de Israel.
And he arose and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
22 Pero oyendo que Arquelao gobernaba sobre Judea en lugar de su padre Herodes, temió ir allá; y avisado por Dios en sueños, se fue a la región de Galilea.
But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of Herod his father, he was afraid to go thither. But being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the regions of Galilee,
23 Y vino, y vivió en un pueblo llamado Nazaret, para que la palabra de los profetas se cumpliera, se le llamaría Nazareno.
and came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that the word might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets: He shall be called a Nazarene.
