San Mateo 17
1 Y después de seis días, Jesús toma consigo a Pedro, a Jacobo y a Juan, su hermano, y los hace subir con él a la alta montaña.
Six days later Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up a high mountain by themselves.
2 Y él fue cambiado en su forma delante de ellos; y su rostro brillaba como el sol, y su ropa se volvió blanca como la luz.
He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his garments became as brilliant as the light.
3 Y Moisés y Elías vinieron delante de ellos, hablando con él.
Behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah talking with him.
4 Y Pedro respondió y dijo a Jesús: Señor, es bueno que estemos aquí: si me lo permites, haré tres tiendas, una para ti, una para Moisés y otra para Elías.
Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you desire, I will make here three shelters—one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
5 Mientras él aún hablaba, una nube brillante se posó sobre ellos; y una voz de la nube, que decía: Este es mi Hijo amado, con quien tengo complacencia; escuchenlo.
While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, there was a voice out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.”
6 Y al oír estas palabras, los discípulos se postraron sobre sus rostros con gran temor.
When the disciples heard it, they fell on their face and were very afraid.
7 Y Jesús, se acercó, puso su mano sobre ellos, y les dijo: Levántense y no teman.
Then Jesus came and touched them and said, “Get up and do not be afraid.”
8 Y alzando los ojos, no vieron a nadie, sino a Jesús solamente.
Then they looked up but saw no one except Jesus only.
9 Cuando descendían del monte, Jesús les dio órdenes, diciendo: Nadie diga nada de lo que han visto, hasta que el Hijo del hombre resucite de los muertos.
As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Report this vision to no one until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.”
10 Y sus discípulos, al preguntarle, dijeron: ¿Por qué dicen los escribas que Elías tiene que venir primero?
His disciples asked him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
11 Y en respuesta dijo: Elías verdaderamente tiene que venir y arreglar todas las cosas.
Jesus answered and said, “Elijah will indeed come and restore all things.
12 Pero yo les digo que Elías ya vino, y ellos no lo conocieron, sino que hicieron con él lo que quisieron; lo mismo el Hijo del hombre sufrirá en sus manos.
But I tell you, Elijah has already come, but they did not recognize him. Instead, they did whatever they wanted to him. In the same way, the Son of Man will also suffer at their hands.”
13 Entonces los discípulos comprendieron que les estaba hablando de Juan el Bautista.
Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them about John the Baptist.
14 Cuando llegaron al pueblo, un hombre se arrodilló ante él y le dijo:
When they had come to the crowd, a man came to him, knelt before him, and said,
15 Señor, ten piedad de mi hijo, porque está loco y tiene un gran dolor. y con frecuencia cae al fuego y con frecuencia al agua.
“Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is epileptic and suffers severely. For he often falls into the fire or the water.
16 Y lo he traído a tus discípulos, y ellos no pudieron curarlo.
I brought him to your disciples, but they could not cure him.”
17 Y respondiendo Jesús, dijo: ¡Oh generación incrédula y perversa! ¿Hasta cuándo estaré con ustedes? ¿Cuánto tiempo voy a aguantarlos? deja que venga él muchacho a mí.
Jesus answered and said, “Unbelieving and corrupt generation, how long will I have to stay with you? How long must I bear with you? Bring him here to me.”
18 Y Jesús reprendió al espíritu inmundo, y salió de él; y el niño fue sanado desde aquella hora.
Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the boy was healed from that hour.
19 Entonces los discípulos se acercaron a Jesús en privado, y dijeron: ¿Por qué no pudimos echarlo fuera?
Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”
20 Y él les dice: Por su poca fe; porque en verdad les digo que si tienen fe como un grano de mostaza, dirán a este monte: muévete de este lugar a ese; y será movido; y nada será imposible para ustedes.
Jesus said to them, “Because of your small faith. For I truly say to you, if you have faith even as small as a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.
21 Pero este género no sale sino con oración y ayuno.
22 Y mientras andaban por Galilea, Jesús les dijo: El Hijo del hombre será entregado en manos de hombres;
While they stayed in Galilee, Jesus said to his disciples, “The Son of Man will be delivered into the hands of people,
23 Y le matarán, y al tercer día resucitara de entre los muertos. Y estaban muy tristes.
and they will kill him, and the third day he will be raised up.” The disciples became very upset.
24 Y cuando llegaron a Capernaum, vinieron los que tomaron el impuesto del Templo a Pedro, y le dijeron: ¿Acaso tu amo no hace el pago del impuesto del Templo?
When they had come to Capernaum, the men who collected the half-shekel tax came to Peter and said, “Does not your teacher pay the half-shekel tax?”
25 Él dice: Sí. Y cuando entró en la casa, Jesús le dijo: ¿Cuál es tu opinión, Simón? ¿De quién obtienen el pago o el impuesto los reyes de la tierra? de sus hijos o de otras personas?
He said, “Yes.” When Peter came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first and said, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth collect tolls or taxes? From their sons or from others?”
26 Y cuando dijo: De los hombres, Jesús le dijo: Entonces los hijos son libres.
When he said, “From others,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free.”
27 Pero para que no les causemos problemas, ve al mar, y baja un anzuelo, y toma el primer pez que salga; y en su boca verás un poco de dinero; tómalo y dáselo por mí y por ti.
But so that we do not cause the tax collectors to sin, go to the sea, throw in a hook, and draw in the fish that comes up first. When you have opened its mouth, you will find a shekel. Take it and give it to the tax collectors for me and you.”
