San Lucas 14

1 Y aconteció que cuando entraba en la casa de uno de los principales fariseos en sábado, para comer, lo miraban.

And as He went into the house of one of the chief of the pharisees to eat on the sabbath-day, and they were watching Him,

2 Y había cierto hombre que tenía una enfermedad.

behold, there was a certain man before Him that had a dropsy.

3 Y respondiendo Jesús, dijo a los escribas y fariseos: ¿Está bien hacer que la gente esté bien en sábado o no?

And Jesus spake to the expounders of the law and to the pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath-day?

4 Pero ellos no dijeron nada. Y lo sano y lo envió lejos.

but they made no answer. And He took him and healed him, and sent him away:

5 Y él les dijo: ¿Quién de ustedes, cuyo buey o asno ha entrado en un pozo de agua, no lo sacará inmediatamente en sábado?

and said unto them, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fall into a pit, and will not immediately draw him out even on the sabbath-day?

6 Y no tenían respuesta a esa pregunta.

and they were not able to answer Him again to these things.

7 Y les dio enseñanza en forma de historia a los invitados que asistieron a la fiesta, cuando vio cómo tomaron los mejores asientos; diciéndoles:

And He spake a parable to those that were invited, observing how they chose the chief seats, saying unto them,

8 Cuando reciban una invitación para que vengan a una fiesta, no tomen el mejor asiento, porque un hombre más importante que ustedes pueda venir,

When thou art invited by any one to a wedding, do not sit down in the uppermost place, least one more honorable than thou be invited by him;

9 Y entonces el que da la fiesta vendrá a ti y te dirá: da tu lugar para este hombre; y tu, con vergüenza, tendrás que tomar el asiento más bajo.

and he who invited thee and him, should come and say to thee, Give place to this person, and then thou begin with shame to take the lowest place.

10 Pero cuando vengan, ve y toma el asiento más bajo, para que cuando llegue el dador de la fiesta, él te diga: Amigo, sube más alto; y luego tendrás honor a los ojos de todos los demás que están allí.

But when thou art invited, go and sit down at the lowest place, that, when he who invited thee cometh, he may say to thee, Friend, go up higher: then wilt thou have honor before them that sit at table with thee:

11 Porque todo hombre que se humilla a sí mismo en un lugar alto será derribado, pero el que toma asiento será levantado.

for whosoever exalteth himself shall be humbled, and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

12 Y él le dijo al dueño de la casa: Cuando hagas una fiesta, no invites a tus amigos ni a tus hermanos ni a tu familia, ni a tus vecinos que tienen riquezas, porque ellos pueden darte un festín, y así recibirás una recompensa.

He said also to him that had invited Him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, do not invite thy friends, nor thy brethren, nor thy kindred, nor thy rich neighbors; least they invite thee again, and so a return be made thee.

13 Pero cuando hagas una fiesta, invita a los pobres y a los ciegos y a los paralíticos.

But when thou makest a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind; and thou shalt be happy;

14 Y tendrás una bendición, porque no podrán darte ningún pago, y recibirás tu recompensa cuando el justo vuelve de entre los muertos.

because they have not wherewith to requite thee: for a recompense shall be given thee at the resurrection of the just.

15 Y al oír estas palabras, uno de los que estaban sentados a la mesa con él le dijo: Bienaventurado el hombre que será huésped en el reino de Dios.

And one of those; who sat at table with Him, hearing these things, said unto Him, Happy is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

16 Y él les dijo: Un hombre dio un gran banquete, y envió un mensaje a varias personas.

Upon which He said, A certain man made a great supper and invited many;

17 Y cuando llegó el momento, envió a sus siervos a decirles: Vengan, porque todas las cosas están ahora listas.

and sent his servant at supper-time to say to them that were invited, Come, for all things are now ready.

18 Y todos dieron razones por las que no pudieron venir. El primero le dijo: Tengo un campo nuevo, y es necesario que vaya y lo vea: lo siento disculpame por no poder ir.

And they all with one consent began to make excuses; the first said, I have bought a field, and I must go and see it, pray have me excused.

19 Y otro dijo: He comprado ganado, y voy a hacer una prueba de ellos: discúlpame por no poder ir.

And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and am going to try them, pray have me excused.

20 Y otro dijo: Acabo de casarme, y por eso no puedo venir.

And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

21 Y el criado regresó y le contó a su señor estas cosas. Entonces el dueño de la casa se enojó y le dijo al criado, sal rápidamente a las calles de la ciudad y trae acá a los pobres, los ciegos y los cojos y mancos.

So the servant came and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go directly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the lame, and the blind.

22 Y el criado dijo: Señor, tus mandamientos han sido cumplidos, y aún hay lugar.

And the servant said, Sir, it is done according to thine order, and still there is room.

23 Y el señor dijo al siervo: Ve por los caminos y los campos, y hazlos entrar, para que se llene mi casa.

And the lord said to the servant, Go out into the high-ways and hedges, and press them to come in, that my house may be filled:

24 Porque les digo que ninguno de los que fueron invitados a venir probará mi cena.

for I tell you, that none of those men who were invited, shall taste of my supper.

25 Ahora una gran cantidad de gente fue con él.

Now there were great multitudes going along with Him:

26 Y volviéndose, les dijo: Si alguno viene a mí, y no aborrece a su padre, a su madre, a su mujer, a sus hijos, a sus hermanos, a sus hermanas, y aun a su vida, no será mi discípulo.

so he turned and said to them, If any man come to me, and does not comparatively hate his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea and his own life too, he cannot be my disciple.

27 El que no toma su cruz y viene en pos de mí, no puede ser mi discípulo.

And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and follow me, cannot be my disciple.

28 ¿Para quién de ustedes, deseando construir una torre, primero no se sienta y hace un cálculo de gastos, para saber si él tendrá suficiente para completarlo?

For who of you that hath a mind to build a tower does not first sit down and calculate the expence, whether he hath wherewithal to perfect it?

29 Por temor a que si él comienza y no puede continuar hasta el final, todos los que lo vean se burlen de él,

least having laid a foundation and not being able to finish,

30 y diciendo: Este hombre comenzó a construir y no puedo completar.

all that see it, should deride him, saying, this man began to build and was not able to finish.

31 ¿O qué rey, yendo a la guerra con otro rey, primero no pensará si será lo suficientemente fuerte, con diez mil hombres, para evitar que el que viene contra él con veinte mil?

Or what king, going to engage with another king in battle, doth not sit down first and consult, whether he be able with ten thousand men to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

32 O mientras el otro está todavía a una gran distancia, envía representantes solicitando condiciones de paz.

and if not, while he is yet far off, he sendeth an embassy, and desireth conditions of peace.

33 Y entonces, quien no esté dispuesto a renunciar a todo lo que tiene, puede que no sea mi discípulo.

So, every one of you, that doth not give up all that he hath, cannot be my disciple.

34 Porque la sal es buena, pero si el sabor va de ella, ¿de qué sirve?

Salt is good; but if the salt have lost it's savor, wherewith shall it be seasoned?

35 No es bueno para la tierra o para el lugar del desperdicio; nadie tiene un uso para eso. El que tiene oídos, que oiga.

it is neither fit for the land, nor for the dunghil; but they throw it away. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
