Jueces 8
1 Y vinieron los hombres de Efraín y le dijeron: ¿Por qué no enviaste por nosotros cuando fuiste a la guerra contra Madián? Y discutieron fuertemente.
And the men of Ephraim said unto him, What is this thing that thou hast done unto us, not to call for us, when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? And they quarrelled with him vehemently.
2 Y él les dijo: ¿Qué he hecho en comparación con ustedes? ¿No valen más los rebuscos de las uvas de Efraín que la vendimia de Abiezer que recibió del corte de uva?
And he said unto them, What have I done now in comparison with you? Is not the gleaning of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abi'ezer?
3 Dios ha entregado en tus manos a los jefes de Madián, Oreb y Zeeb; ¿Y qué pude hacer yo en comparación con ustedes? Y cuando dijo esto, su comportamiento acerca de él se volvió más amable.
Into your hand God delivered the princes of Midian, 'Oreb and Zeeb: and what have I been able to do in comparison with you? Then was their anger abated from him, when he had spoken this speech.
4 Entonces Gedeón llegó al Jordán y lo cruzaron con sus trescientos hombres, vencido por el cansancio y la necesidad de comida.
And Gid'on came to the Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, and in pursuit.
5 Y dijo a los hombres de Sucot: Den pan a mi pueblo, porque se sienten vencidos por el cansancio, y estamos persiguiendo a Zeba y Zalmuna, los reyes de Madián.
And he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, a few loaves of bread unto the people that are in my train; for they are faint, and I am pursuing after Zebach and Zalmunna,' the kings of Midian.
6 Pero los jefes de Sucot dijeron: ¿Acaso ya están en tus manos Zeba y Zalmuna para que demos pan a tu ejército?
And the princes of Succoth said, Is the sole of the foot of Zebach and Zalmunna' now already in thy hand, that we should give unto thy army bread?
7 Entonces Gideon dijo: Debido a esto, cuando el Señor me haya dado a Zeba y Zalmuna en mis manos, te haré estirar en un lecho de espinas del desierto y en tallos afilados, y te aplastaré como se tritura el grano en un piso de grano.
And Gid'on said, Therefore when the Lord hath delivered Zebach and Zalmunna' into my hand, then will I thresh your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.
8 Entonces subió de allí a Penuel e hizo la misma petición a los hombres de Penuel; pero le dieron la misma respuesta que los hombres de Sucot habían dado.
And he went up thence to Penuel, and spoke unto them in the same manner: and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered.
9 Entonces dijo a los hombres de Penuel: Cuando regrese en paz, destruiré esta torre.
And he said also unto the men of Penuel thus, When I return again in peace, I will break down this tower.
10 Y Zeba y Zalmuna estaban en Carcor y sus ejércitos con ellos, unos quince mil hombres, los de todo el ejército de los hijos del este que aún vivían; ciento veinte mil de sus espadachines habían sido ejecutados.
Now Zebach and Zalmunna' were in Karkor, and their camps with them, about fifteen thousand men, all that had been left of all the camp of the children of the east; but those who had fallen were one hundred and twenty thousand men that drew the sword.
11 Y Gideon subió por el camino utilizado por las personas que habitaban en el campamento al este de Noba y Jogbeha, e hizo un ataque al ejército cuando menos lo esperaban.
And Gid'on went up by the way of those that dwelt in tents, to the east of Nobach and Yogbehah, and smote the camp; but the camp thought itself secure.
12 Y Zeba y Zalmuna salieron huyendo; y fue tras ellos, y tomó a los dos reyes de Madián, Zeba y Zalmuna, y puso a todo el ejército a la destrucción.
And Zebach and Zalmunna' fled; but he pursued after them, and captured the two kings of Midian, Zebach and Zalmunna', and all the camp he discomfited.
13 Entonces Gedeón, el hijo de Joás, volvió de la pelea:
And Gid'on the son of Joash returned from the battle before the rising of the sun,
14 Y tomando prisionero a un joven de la gente de Sucot, obtuvo de él, en respuesta a sus preguntas, una lista de los jefes de Sucot y los hombres responsables, setenta y siete hombres.
And he caught a young man of the people of Succoth, and inquired of him: and he wrote down for him the princes of Succoth, and the elders thereof, seventy and seven men.
15 Entonces, se acercó a los hombres de Sucot y dijo: Aquí están Zeba y Zalmuna, a causa de los cuales se burlaron de mí, diciendo: ¿Están en tus manos Zeba y Zalmuna, para que demos pan a tu ejército que se cae de cansancio?
And he came unto the men of Succoth, and said, Behold here are Zebach and Zalmunna', with whom ye derided me, saying, Is the sole of the foot of Zebach and Zalmunna' now already in thy hand, that we should give unto thy weary men bread?
16 Luego tomó a los hombres responsables de la ciudad y los hizo aplastar en una cama de espinas y tallos afilados.
And he took the elders of the city, and the thorns of the wilderness and briers, and chastised with them the men of Succoth.
17 Y él derribó la torre de Penuel y mataron a los hombres del pueblo.
And the tower of Penuel he beat down, and slew the men of the city.
18 Entonces dijo a Zeba y a Zalmuna: ¿Como eran los hombres a quienes han matado en Tabor? Y respondieron: Parecidos a ti, así fueron ellos; cada uno de ellos era como el hijo de un rey.
And he said unto Zebach and Zalmunna', What kind of men were those whom ye slew at Tabor! And they answered, As thou art, so were they; one was in form like that of the children of a king.
19 Y él dijo: Eran mis hermanos, los hijos de mi madre; por la vida del Señor, si los hubieses mantenido a salvo, no te mataría ahora.
And he said, They were my brothers, the sons of my mother; as the Lord liveth, if ye had spared them alive, I would not slay you.
20 Entonces dijo a Jeter, su hijo mayor: ¡Arriba! Mátalos. Pero el niño no sacó su espada, temiendo porque todavía era muy joven.
And he said unto Yether his first-born, Rise up, and slay them. But the youth drew not his sword; for he was afraid, because he was yet a youth.
21 Entonces Zeba y Zalmuna dijeron: ¡Arriba! Acaba con nosotros, porque tienes la fuerza de un hombre. Entonces Gideon se levantó y mató a Zeba y Zalmuna y tomó los adornos que estaban en el cuello de sus camellos.
Then said Zebach and Zalmunna', Rise thou, and fall upon us; for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gid'on arose, and slew Zebach and Zalmunna'; and he took away the crescent ornaments that were on the necks of their camels.
22 Entonces los hombres de Israel dijeron a Gedeón: Sé nuestro gobernador, tú y tu hijo y el hijo de tu hijo después de él; porque has sido nuestro salvador de las manos de Madián.
And the men of Israel said unto Gid'on, Rule thou over us, both thou and thy son, and thy son's son also; for thou hast delivered us out of the hand of Midian.
23 Pero Gedeón les dijo: No seré un gobernante sobre ustedes, y mi hijo no será un gobernante sobre ustedes; es el Señor quien gobernará sobre ustedes.
And Gid'on said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the Lord shall rule over you.
24 Entonces Gedeón les dijo: Tengo que hacerles una petición; Que cada hombre me dé un anillo, de lo que les tocó en su botín. Porque tenían anillos de oro, porque eran ismaelitas.
And Gid'on said unto them, I would ask one request of you, that ye should give me every man the earring of his booty; for they had had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.
25 Y respondieron ellos, con mucho gusto te los daremos. Así que bajaron una bata, y cada uno de ellos echó el anillo que se había llevado.
And they answered, We will willingly give. And they spread out a garment, and they cast therein every man the earring of his booty.
26 El peso de los anillos de oro que obtuvo de ellos era de mil setecientos siclos de oro; además de los adornos y aros y las túnicas púrpuras de los reyes de Madián, y las cadenas que llevaban sus camellos.
And the weight of the golden earrings that he had requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; besides the crescent ornaments, and ear-drops, and purple garments that were on the kings of Midian, and besides the chains that were about their camels' necks.
27 Y Gedeón les hizo un efod y lo puso en su pueblo, Ofra; y todo Israel fue tras él allí y fue infiel al Señor; y se convirtió en una causa de pecado para Gedeón y su casa.
And Gid'on made thereof an ephod, and set it up in his city, in 'Ophrah: and all Israel went astray after it thither; and it became a snare unto Gid'on, and to his house.
28 Entonces Madiánm eess was fue sometido ante los hijos de Israel y los madianitas nunca recuperaron su fuerza. Y la tierra tuvo paz durante cuarenta años, en los días de Gedeón.
And Midian was humbled before the children of Israel, so that they lifted not up their head any more. And the country was quiet forty years in the days of Gid'on.
29 Y Jerobaal, el hijo de Joás, volvió a su casa y vivía allí.
And Yerubba'al the son of Joash went and dwelt in his own house.
30 Gedeón tuvo setenta hijos, la descendencia de su cuerpo; porque tenía varias esposas.
And Gid'on had seventy sons begotten of his body; for he had many wives.
31 Y la criada que tenía en Siquem tuvo un hijo suyo, a quien dio el nombre de Abimelec.
And his concubine that was in Shechem, she also bore him a son, and he gave him the name, Abimelech.
32 Y Gedeón, el hijo de Joás, llegó a su fin cuando él era muy viejo, y su cuerpo fue enterrado en el lugar de descanso de su padre Joás, en Ofra del clan de Abiezer.
And Gid'on the son of Joash died in a good old age, and was buried in the sepulchre of Joash his father, in 'Ophrah of the Abi'ezrites.
33 Y después de la muerte de Gedeón, los hijos de Israel fueron nuevamente tras los dioses de Canaán y fueron infieles ante el Señor, e hicieron de Baal-berit su dios.
And it came to pass, when Gid'on was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and went astray after the Be'alim, and made themselves Ba'al-berith for a god.
34 Y los hijos de Israel no tuvieron en mente al Señor su Dios, quien había sido su salvador de todos sus enemigos que los rodeaban;
And the children of Israel remembered not the Lord their God, who delivered them out of the hand of all their enemies on every side.
35 Y no fueron amables con la casa de Jerobaal, es decir, Gedeón, en recompensa por todo el bien que había hecho a Israel.
Neither showed they kindness to the house of Yerubba'al, namely, Gid'on, in accordance with all the good which he had done unto Israel.
