Josué 4

1 Cuando toda la nación había llegado al otro lado del Jordán, el Señor le dijo a Josué:

And it came to pass, when all the nation were clean passed over the Jordan, that the LORD spoke unto Joshua, saying:

2 Toma doce hombres del pueblo, un hombre por cada tribu.

'Take you twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man,

3 Y diles: Toma desde el medio del Jordán, desde el lugar donde descansaban los pies de los sacerdotes, doce piedras, y llévalos contigo y colócalos en el lugar donde descansen esta noche.

and command ye them, saying: Take you hence out of the midst of the Jordan, out of the place where the priests' feet stood, twelve stones made ready, and carry them over with you, and lay them down in the lodging-place, where ye shall lodge this night.'

4 Y Josué envió a buscar a los doce hombres que él tenía preparados, uno de cada tribu de los hijos de Israel,

Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man;

5 Y él les dijo: Vayan delante del cofre del pacto de su Dios, en medio del Jordán, y cada uno de ustedes levanten una piedra sobre su espalda, una por cada tribu de los hijos de Israel:

and Joshua said unto them: 'Pass on before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take you up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel;

6 Para que esto sea señal entre ustedes; Cuando sus hijos les pregunten, ¿Cuál es la razón de estas piedras?

that this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask in time to come, saying: What mean ye by these stones?

7 Entonces les dirás: Porque las aguas del Jordán fueron cortadas delante del cofre del pacto del Señor; cuando pasó por el Jordán, se cortaron las aguas del Jordán, y estas piedras serán una señal para los hijos de Israel, que se mantendrán en su memoria para siempre.

then ye shall say unto them: Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off; and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.'

8 Entonces los hijos de Israel hicieron lo que Josué les mandó, y tomaron doce piedras del medio del Jordán, como el Señor le había dicho a Josué, una por cada tribu de los hijos de Israel; Los llevaron con ellos al lugar de descanso de la noche y los pusieron allí.

And the children of Israel did so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as the LORD spoke unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel; and they carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

9 Y Josué puso doce piedras en medio del Jordán, donde se habían colocado los pies de los sacerdotes que tomaron el cofre del pacto: y allí están hasta hoy.

Joshua also set up twelve stones in the midst of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests that bore the ark of the covenant stood; and they are there unto this day.

10 Porque los sacerdotes que tomaron el cofre del pacto permanecieron allí en el medio del Jordán hasta que todas las órdenes dadas por él Señor por medio de Josué. Todo se hizo según Moisés había mandado a Josué entonces la gente se fue rápidamente.

And the priests that bore the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan, until every thing was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua; and the people hastened and passed over.

11 Y cuando todo el pueblo llegó al otro lado, el cofre del pacto del Señor se acercó, y los sacerdotes, delante de los ojos del pueblo.

And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the ark of the LORD passed on, and the priests, before the people.

12 Y los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés fueron armados delante de los hijos de Israel como Moisés les había dicho:

And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, passed on armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spoke unto them;

13 Unos cuarenta mil armados para la guerra fueron ante el Señor a la lucha, a las tierras bajas de Jericó.

about forty thousand ready armed for war passed on in the presence of the LORD unto battle, to the plains of Jericho.

14 Ese día él Señor hizo a Josué grande ante los ojos de todo Israel; y todos los días de su vida fueron a temerle a él, como habían temido a Moisés.

On that day the LORD magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.

15 Entonces el SEÑOR dijo a Josué:

And the LORD spoke unto Joshua, saying:

16 Manda a los sacerdotes que tomen el cofre del pacto, que salgan del Jordán.

'Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of the Jordan.'

17 Entonces Josué dio órdenes a los sacerdotes, diciendo: Salgan ahora del Jordán.

Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying: 'Come ye up out of the Jordan.'

18 Y cuando los sacerdotes que tomaron el cofre del pacto del Señor salieron del Jordán y sus pies salieron a tierra firme, las aguas del Jordán regresaron a su lugar, desbordando sus bordes como antes.

And it came to pass, as the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD came up out of the midst of the Jordan, as soon as the soles of the priests' feet were drawn up unto the dry ground, that the waters of the Jordan returned unto their place, and went over all its banks, as aforetime.

19 El décimo día del primer mes, el pueblo salió del Jordán y puso sus tiendas en Gilgal, en el lado este de Jericó.

And the people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, on the east border of Jericho.

20 Y las doce piedras que sacaron del Jordán, Josué pusieron en Gilgal.

And those twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, did Joshua set up in Gilgal.

21 Y dijo a los hijos de Israel: Cuando sus hijos pregunten a sus padres en el futuro, ¿cuál es la razón de estas piedras?

And he spoke unto the children of Israel, saying: 'When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying: What mean these stones?

22 Entonces cuéntales a sus hijos y digan: Israel cruzó este río Jordán en tierra firme.

then ye shall let your children know, saying: Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.

23 Porque el Señor su Dios hizo que las aguas del Jordán se secaran delante de ti hasta que hubieras cruzado, como lo hizo con el Mar Rojo, secándose antes de que hubiéramos cruzado:

For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red Sea, which He dried up from before us, until we were passed over,

24 Para que todos los pueblos de la tierra vean que la mano del Señor es fuerte; y para que vayan temiendo al Señor su Dios para siempre.

that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty; that ye may fear the LORD your God for ever.'
