Josué 2

1 Entonces Josué, el hijo de Nun, envió a dos hombres de Sitim en secreto, con el propósito de explorar la tierra, especialmente Jericó. Entonces ellos fueron y vinieron a la casa de una mujer prostituta del pueblo, llamada Rahab, donde tomaron su descanso por la noche.

Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two men out from Shittim as spies. He said, “Go, look over the land, especially Jericho.” They went away and came to the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab, and they lodged there.

2 Y se dijo al rey de Jericó: Mira, algunos hombres han venido aquí esta noche de los hijos de Israel con el propósito de buscar la tierra.

It was told to the king of Jericho, “Look, men of Israel have come here to spy on the land.”

3 Entonces el rey de Jericó envió a Rahab, diciendo: Envía a los hombres que han venido a ti y están en tu casa; porque han venido con el propósito de buscar toda la tierra.

The king of Jericho sent word to Rahab and said, “Bring out the men who have come to you who entered your house, for they have come to spy on the whole land.”

4 Y la mujer tomó a los dos hombres y los puso en un lugar secreto; entonces ella dijo: Sí, los hombres vinieron a mí, pero no supe de dónde eran;

But the woman had taken the two men and hidden them. She replied, “Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they were from.

5 Y cuando llegó el momento de cerrar las puertas en la oscuridad, salieron. No tengo idea de a dónde fueron los hombres; pero si los persigues rápidamente, los podrán alcanzar.

They left when it was dusk, when it was time for the city gate to shut. I do not know where they went. You will probably catch them if you hurry after them.”

6 Pero ella los había llevado hasta el techo, escondiéndolos con los tallos de lino que había puesto en orden allí.

But she had taken them up to the roof and hidden them with the stalks of flax that she had laid out on the roof.

7 Entonces los hombres los siguieron por el camino al Jordán hasta el cruce del río. Y cuando salieron, la puerta de la ciudad se cerró.

So the men pursued them on the road that leads to the fords of the Jordan. The gate was shut as soon as the pursuers went out.

8 Y antes de que los hombres se fueran a descansar, se les acercó en el techo,

The men had not yet lain down for the night, when she came up to them on the roof.

9 Y les dijo: Está claro para mí que el Señor les ha dado la tierra, y que el temor de ustedes ha venido sobre nosotros; todos los habitantes de la tierra se han acobardado ante ustedes.

She said, “I know that Yahweh has given you the land and that the fear of you has come upon us. All those who live in the land will melt away before you.

10 Porque hemos oído de cómo el Señor secó el Mar Rojo ante ustedes cuando salieron de Egipto; y lo que hiciste a los dos reyes de los amorreos, al otro lado del Jordán, a Sehón y Og, a quienes destruyeron completamente.

We have heard how Yahweh dried up the water of the Sea of Reeds for you when you came out of Egypt. We also heard what you did to the two kings of the Amorites on other side of the Jordan—Sihon and Og—whom you completely destroyed.

11 Y a causa de estas noticias, nuestros corazones se acobardaron, y no tuvimos más valor en ninguno de nosotros a causa de ustedes; porque el Señor su Dios supremo es Dios en el cielo en lo alto y aquí abajo en la tierra.

As soon as we had heard it, our hearts melted and there was no courage left in anyone—for Yahweh your God, he is God in heaven above and on the earth below.

12 Ahora, ¿me darás tu juramento por parte del Señor? Que, como he sido amable contigo, serás amable con la casa de mi padre.

Now then, please swear to me by Yahweh that, just as I have been kind to you, you will also deal kindly with my father's house. Give me a sure sign

13 ¿Y que mantendrás a salvo a mi padre, a mi madre, a mis hermanos y a todo lo que tienen, para que no nos llegue la muerte?

that you will spare the lives of my father, mother, brothers, sisters and all their families, and that you will save us from death.”

14 Y los hombres le dijeron: Nuestra vida por la tuya, si mantienes nuestro negocio en secreto; y cuando el Señor nos haya dado la tierra, mantendremos la fe y seremos bondadosos con ustedes.

The men said to her, “Our life for yours, even to death! If you do not speak about our business, then, when Yahweh gives us this land we will be merciful and faithful to you.”

15 Luego los bajó de la ventana por un cordón, porque la casa donde vivía estaba en la pared de la ciudad.

So she let them down out through the window using a rope. The house in which she lived was built into the wall of the city.

16 Y ella les dijo: Vete a la región montañosa, o los hombres que te persiguen te alcanzarán; Manténganse seguros allí durante tres días, hasta que los buscadores hayan regresado, y luego sigan su camino.

She said to them, “Go in the hills and hide or the pursuers will find you. Hide there for three days until the pursuers have returned. Then go on your way.”

17 Y los hombres le dijeron: Solo seremos responsables de este juramento que nos has hecho hacer,

The men said to her, “We will be not be bound to the promises of the oath you made us swear to, if you do not do this.

18 Si, cuando entramos en la tierra, pones este cordón de hilo rojo brillante en la ventana desde la que nos dejaste caer; y trae a tu padre y madre y tus hermanos y toda tu familia a la casa;

When we come into the land, you must tie this scarlet rope in the window through which you let us down, and you will gather into the house your father and mother, your brothers and all your father's household.

19 Entonces, si alguien sale de tu casa a la calle, su sangre estará sobre su cabeza, no seremos responsables; pero si algún daño llega a alguien en la casa, su sangre estará en nuestras cabezas.

Whoever goes out of the doors of your house into the street, their blood will be upon their own heads and we will be guiltless. But if a hand is laid upon any who is with you in the house, his blood will be on our head.

20 Pero si dice algo sobre nuestro negocio aquí, estaremos libres del juramento que nos ha hecho tomar.

But if you speak about our business, we will be free from the oath you made us swear.”

21 Y ella dijo: Dejen que sea como ustedes dicen. Entonces los despidió, y se fueron; Y ella puso la cuerda roja brillante en la ventana.

Rahab replied, “May what you say be done.” She sent them away and they left. Then she tied the scarlet rope in the window.

22 Y entraron en la región montañosa y estuvieron allí tres días, hasta que los hombres que habían ido tras ellos regresaron; y los que iban tras ellos los buscaban por todas partes sin encontrarlos.

They left and went up into the hills and they stayed there three days until their pursuers returned. The pursuers searched all along the road and found nothing.

23 Entonces los dos hombres bajaron de la región montañosa y se acercaron y regresaron a Josué, el hijo de Nun; y le dieron una cuenta completa de lo que había sucedido.

The two men returned and crossed over and came back to Joshua son of Nun, and they told him everything that had happened to them.

24 Y dijeron a Josué: En verdad, el Señor ha entregado toda la tierra en nuestras manos; y todas las personas de la tierra se acobardan delante de nosotros.

They said to Joshua, “Truly Yahweh has given this land to us. All the inhabitants of the land are melting away because of us.”
