Juan 16
1 Les he dicho estas cosas para que no se ofendan y pierdan la fe.
"These things I have spoken to you in order to clear stumbling-blocks out of your path.
2 Los sacarán de las sinagogas: sí, llegará el momento en que quien te mata creería que está haciendo un favor; el placer de Dios.
You will be excluded from the synagogues; nay more, the time is coming when any one who has murdered one of you will suppose he is offering service to God.
3 Les harán estas cosas porque no conocieron al Padre ni a mí.
And they will do these things because they have failed to recognize the Father and to discover who I am.
4 Les he dicho estas cosas para que cuando llegue el momento, ustedes recuerden que los había prevenido. No se los dije al principio, porque entonces todavía estaba con ustedes.
But I have spoken these things to you in order that when the time for their accomplishment comes you may remember them, and may recollect that I told you. I did not, however, tell you all this at first, because I was still with you.
5 Pero ahora voy al que me envió; y ninguno de ustedes me dice: ¿A dónde vas?
But now I an returning to Him who sent me; and not one of you asks me where I am going.
6 Pero sus corazones están llenos de tristeza porque dije estas cosas.
But grief has filled your hearts because I have said all this to you.
7 Pero lo que digo es verdad: si me voy es para su beneficio; porque si no me voy, el Ayudador no vendrá a ustedes; pero si me voy, lo enviaré a ustedes.
"Yet it is the truth that I am telling you--it is to your advantage that I go away. For unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.
8 Y él, cuando venga, hará al mundo consciente del pecado, y de la justicia, y de ser juzgado;
And He, when He comes, will convict the world in respect of sin, of righteousness, and of judgement; --
9 De pecado, porque no tienen fe en mí;
of sin, because they do not believe in me;
10 De justicia, porque voy al Padre y no me verán más;
of righteousness, because I am going to the Father, and you will no longer see me;
11 De juicio, porque el príncipe de este mundo ha sido juzgado.
of judgement, because the Prince of this world is under sentence.
12 Todavía tengo mucho que decirles, pero no son lo suficientemente fuerte para eso ahora.
"I have much more to say to you, but you are unable at present to bear the burden of it.
13 Sin embargo, cuando él, el Espíritu del conocimiento verdadero, haya venido, él será su guía en todo el conocimiento verdadero: porque sus palabras no vendrán de sí mismo; de su propia iniciativa sino todo lo que haya venido escuchado, él hablara: y les mostrara en claro lo que vendrá.
But when He has come--the Spirit of Truth--He will guide you into all the truth. For He will not speak as Himself originating what He says, but all that He hears He will speak, and He will make known the future to you.
14 Él me glorificará, porque recibirá de lo que es mío y se lo dará a conocer a ustedes.
He will glorify me, because He will take of what is mine and will make it known to you.
15 Todo lo que el Padre tiene es mío: por eso digo: Él tomará lo que es mío y les hará saber.
Everything that the Father has is mine; that is why I said that the Spirit of Truth takes of what is mine and will make it known to you.
16 Después de un poco de tiempo no me verán más; y luego de nuevo, después de un poco de tiempo, me verán.
"A little while and you see me no more, and again a little while and you shall see me."
17 Entonces algunos de los discípulos dijeron el uno al otro: ¿Qué es esto que está diciendo? Después de un tiempo, ya no me verán; y luego de nuevo, después de un poco de tiempo, ¿me verán? y ¿voy al Padre?
Some of His disciples therefore said to one another, "What does this mean which He is telling us, 'A little while and you do not see me, and again a little while and you shall see me,' and 'Because I am going to the Father'?"
18 Entonces dijeron una y otra vez: ¿Qué es esto que está diciendo, un poco de tiempo? Sus palabras no son claras para nosotros.
So they asked one another repeatedly, "What can that 'little while' mean which He speaks of? We do not understand His words."
19 Jesús vio que tenían el deseo de hacerle la pregunta, entonces él les dijo: ¿Es esto lo que están cuestionando uno con el otro, por qué dije: Después de un tiempo, ya no me verán más; y luego de nuevo, después de un poco de tiempo, ¿me verán?
Jesus perceived that they wanted to ask Him, and He said, "Is this what you are questioning one another about--my saying, 'A little while and you do not see me, and again a little while and you shall see me'?
20 En verdad les digo que llorarán y llorarán, pero el mundo se alegrará; estarán tristes, pero su tristeza se convertirá en gozo.
In most solemn truth I tell you that you will weep aloud and lament, but the world will be glad. You will mourn, but your grief will be turned into gladness.
21 Cuando una mujer está a punto de dar a luz, tiene dolor, porque ha llegado su hora; pero cuando ella ha dado a luz al niño, el dolor se aparta de su mente por la alegría de que un hombre haya venido al mundo.
A woman, when she is in labour, has sorrow, because her time has come. But when she has given birth to the babe, she no longer remembers the pain, because of her joy at a child being born into the world.
22 Así ahora tienen aflicción; pero volveré a verlos, y su corazón se alegrará, y nadie les quitará su alegría.
So you also now have sorrow; but I shall see you again, and your hearts will be glad, and your gladness no one will take away from you.
23 Y en ese día no me haran preguntas. En verdad les digo: cualquier cosa que pidan al Padre, él se las dará en mi nombre.
You will put no questions to me then. "In most solemn truth I tell you that whatever you ask the Father for in my name He will give you.
24 Hasta ahora no han pedido nada en mi nombre: háganlo, y recibirán, para que sus corazones estén llenos de alegría.
As yet you have not asked for anything in my name: ask, and you shall receive, that your hearts may be filled with gladness.
25 Todo esto les he dicho en proverbio; pero viene el tiempo en que ya no diré las cosas en proverbios, sino que te daré el conocimiento del Padre con claridad.
"All this I have spoken to you in veiled language. The time is coming when I shall no longer speak to you in veiled language, but will tell you about the Father in plain words.
26 En ese día harán peticiones en mi nombre; y no les digo que voy a orar al Padre por ustedes,
At that time you will make your requests in my name; and I do not promise to ask the Father on your behalf,
27 Porque el Padre mismo les da su amor, porque me ha dado su amor y han tenido fe de que vengo de Dios.
for the Father Himself holds you dear, because you have held me dear and have believed that I came from the Father's presence.
28 Salí de la presencia del Padre y vine al mundo; otra vez, me voy del mundo y voy al Padre.
I came from the Father and have come into the world. Again I am leaving the world and am going to the Father."
29 Sus discípulos dijeron: Ahora estás hablando claramente sin hacer comparaciones.
"Ah, now you are using plain language," said His disciples, "and are uttering no figure of speech!
30 Ahora estamos seguros de que tienes conocimiento de todas las cosas y no tienes necesidad de que nadie te haga preguntas: a través de esto tenemos fe en que has venido de Dios.
Now we know that you have all knowledge, and do not need to be pressed with questions. Through this we believe that you came from God."
31 Jesús respondió: ¿Tienen fe ahora?
"Do you at last believe?" replied Jesus.
32 Mira, un tiempo viene, sí, la hora está aquí, cuando todos van a salir en todas las direcciones, cada uno a su casa, y yo estaré solo; pero no estoy solo, porque el Padre está conmigo.
"Remember that the time is coming, nay, has already come, for you all to be dispersed each to his own home and to leave me alone. And yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.
33 Les he dicho todas estas cosas para que en mí puedan tener paz. En el mundo tendrán problemas: ¡pero anímense tengan confianza! He vencido al mundo.
"I have spoken all this to you in order that in me you may have peace. In the world you have affliction. But keep up your courage: I have won the victory over the world."
