Job 4
1 Respondió Elifaz el temanita y dijo:
Forsothe Eliphat Themanytes answeride, and seide,
2 Si alguien tratará de hablarte una palabra, ¿será molestia para ti? pero ¿quién es capaz de evitar decir lo que está en su mente?
If we bigynnen to speke to thee, in hap thou schalt take it heuyli; but who may holde a word conseyued?
3 En verdad, has ayudado a los demás y has fortalecido las manos débiles;
Lo! thou hast tauyt ful many men, and thou hast strengthid hondis maad feynt.
4 El que estaba cerca de caer ha sido animado por tus palabras, y has dado fuerza al que está por caer.
Thi wordis confermyden men doutynge, and thou coumfortidist knees tremblynge.
5 Pero ahora ha venido sobre ti y es un cansancio para ti; Te conmueve y tu mente está turbada.
But now a wounde is comun on thee, and thou hast failid; it touchide thee, and thou art disturblid.
6 ¿No es tu temor de Dios tu apoyo y tu forma de vida recta tu esperanza?
Where is thi drede, thi strengthe, and thi pacience, and the perfeccioun of thi weies?
7 ¿Alguna vez has visto la destrucción llegar a un hombre recto? ¿O cuándo fueron destruidos los temerosos de Dios?
Y biseche thee, haue thou mynde, what innocent man perischide euere, ethir whanne riytful men weren doon awei?
8 Lo que he visto es que aquellos que han sembrado los problemas, y el mal plantado, obtienen lo mismo para sí mismos.
Certis rathir Y siy hem, that worchen wickidnesse, and sowen sorewis,
9 Por el aliento de Dios la destrucción los toma, y por el viento de su ira son destruidos.
and repen tho, to haue perischid bi God blowynge, and to be wastid bi the spirit of his ire.
10 Aunque el ruido del león y el sonido de su voz pueden ser ruidosos, los dientes de los leones jóvenes son quebrantados.
The roryng of a lioun, and the vois of a lionesse, and the teeth of `whelpis of liouns ben al to-brokun.
11 El viejo león llega a su fin por necesidad de comida, y los cachorros de la leona van deambulando en todas direcciones.
Tigris perischide, for sche hadde not prey; and the whelpis of a lioun ben distried.
12 Una palabra me fue dada en secreto, y el sonido de ella llegó a mis oídos,
Certis an hid word was seid to me, and myn eere took as theueli the veynes of priuy noise therof.
13 Tuve una pesadilla cuando el sueño profundo llega a los hombres,
In the hidousnesse of `nyytis siyt, whanne heuy sleep is wont to occupie men,
14 El temor se apoderó de mí, y mis huesos estaban llenos de problemas;
drede and tremblyng helde me; and alle my boonys weren aferd.
15 Y una respiración se movía sobre mi cara; el cabello de mi carne se endureció.
And whanne the spirit `yede in my presence, the heiris of `my fleisch hadden hidousnesse.
16 Algo estaba presente ante mí, pero no pude verlo claramente; había una forma ante mis ojos: una voz tranquila llegó a mis oídos, diciendo:
Oon stood, whos chere Y knewe not, an ymage bifor myn iyen; and Y herde a vois as of softe wynd.
17 ¿Puede el hombre ser recto ante Dios? ¿O un hombre sea limpio ante su Hacedor?
Whether a man schal be maad iust in comparisoun of God? ethir whethir a man schal be clennere than his Makere?
18 En verdad, no pone fe en sus siervos celestiales, y ve error en sus ángeles;
Lo! thei that seruen hym ben not stidefast; and he findith schrewidnesse in hise aungels.
19 ¡Cuánto más los que viven en casas de barro, cuyas bases están en el polvo! Serán destruidos por la polilla;
Hou myche more thei that dwellen in housis of cley, that han an ertheli foundement, schulen be wastyd as of a mouyte.
20 Entre la mañana y la tarde están completamente destruidos; Llegan a su fin para siempre, y nadie toma nota.
Fro morewtid til to euentid thei schulen be kit doun; and for no man vndurstondith, thei schulen perische with outen ende.
21 Si se les tira la cuerda de la tienda, ¿acaso no llegan a su fin y sin sabiduría?
Sotheli thei, that ben residue, schulen be takun awei; thei schulen die, and not in wisdom.
