Job 28
1 Verdaderamente hay una mina de plata, y un lugar donde el oro es refinado.
For there is a place for the silver, whence it comes, and a place for the gold, whence it is refined.
2 El hierro es sacado de la tierra, y la piedra es convertida en bronce por el fuego.
For iron comes out of the earth, and brass is hewn out like stone.
3 El hombre pone fin a la oscuridad, buscando en el límite más profundo de las piedras, los lugares profundos de la oscuridad.
He has set a bound to darkness, and he searches out every limit: a stone [is] darkness, and the shadow of death.
4 Él hace una mina profunda lejos de aquellos que viven en la luz del día; cuando andan por la tierra, no tienen conocimiento de quienes están debajo de ellos, se secan luego, se van del hombre.
There is a cutting off the torrent by reason of dust: so they that forget the right way are weakened; they are removed from [amongst] men.
5 En cuanto a la tierra, de ella sale pan; pero debajo de ella se revuelve como por fuego.
[As for] the earth, out of it shall come bread: under it has been turned up as it were fire.
6 Sus piedras son el lugar de los zafiros, y tiene polvo de oro.
Her stones are the place of the sapphire: and [her] dust [supplies] man with gold.
7 Ningún pájaro lo sabe, y el ojo del halcón nunca lo ha visto.
[There is] a path, the fowl has not known it, neither has the eye of the vulture seen it:
8 Las grandes bestias no lo han revisado, y el cruel león no ha tomado ese camino.
neither have the sons of the proud trodden it, a lion has not passed upon it.
9 El hombre extiende su mano sobre la roca dura, derribando montañas por las raíces.
He has stretched forth his hand on the sharp [rock], and turned up mountains by the roots:
10 Él hace caminos profundos, corta a través de la roca, y su ojo ve todo lo que tiene valor.
and he has interrupted the whirlpools of rivers, and mine eye has seen every precious thing.
11 Evita que las corrientes fluyan, y hace que las cosas secretas salgan a la luz.
And he has laid bare the depths of rivers, and has brought his power to light.
12 Pero, ¿dónde se puede ver la sabiduría? ¿Y dónde está el lugar de descanso del conocimiento?
But whence has wisdom been discovered? and what is the place of knowledge?
13 El hombre no ha visto el camino, y no está en la tierra de los vivos.
A mortal has not known its way, neither indeed has it been discovered amongst men.
14 Las aguas profundas dicen: No está en mí; Y el mar dice: No está conmigo.
The depth said, It is not in me: and the sea said, It is not with me.
15 El oro no se puede dar por ello, o un peso de plata en pago por ello.
One shall not give fine gold instead of it, neither shall silver be weighed in exchange for it.
16 No puede ser valorado con el oro de Ofir, con el ónix de gran precio, o el zafiro.
Neither shall it be compared with gold of Sophir, with the precious onyx and sapphire.
17 No puede evaluarse con oro y el vidrio, y no puede ser cambiado por joyas del mejor oro.
Gold and crystal shall not be equalled to it, neither shall vessels of gold be its exchange.
18 No hay necesidad de decir nada acerca del coral o cristal; y el valor de la sabiduría es mayor que el de las perlas.
Coral and fine pearl shall not be mentioned: but do you esteem wisdom above the most precious things.
19 El topacio de Etiopía no es igual a él, y no puede ser valorado con el mejor oro.
The topaz of Ethiopia shall not be equalled to it; it shall not be compared with pure gold.
20 ¿De dónde, entonces, viene la sabiduría y dónde está el lugar de descanso del conocimiento?
Whence then is wisdom found? and of what kind is the place of understanding?
21 Porque está oculto a los ojos de todos los vivos, sin ser visto por las aves del aire.
It has escaped the notice of every man, and has been hidden from the birds of the sky.
22 Destrucción y muerte dicen, solo hemos tenido noticias con nuestros oídos.
Destruction and Death said, We have heard the report of it.
23 Dios tiene conocimiento del camino hacia la sabiduría y de su lugar;
God has well ordered the way of it, and he knows the place of it.
24 Porque sus ojos van a los confines de la tierra, y él ve todo bajo el cielo.
For he surveys the whole [earth] under heaven, knowing the things in the earth:
25 Cuando fijó un peso para el viento, nivela la amplitud de las aguas;
all that he has made; the weight of the winds, the measures of the water.
26 Cuando hizo las leyes para la lluvia, y un camino para las truenos y relámpagos;
When he made [them], thus he saw and numbered them, and made a way for the pealing of the thunder.
27 Entonces vio la sabiduría, y la puso en el registro; Él la estableció, y la escudriño también.
Then he saw it, and declared it: he prepared it [and] traced it out.
28 Y dijo al hombre: En verdad, el temor del Señor es la sabiduría, y apartarse del mal es el camino a la inteligencia.
And he said to man, Behold, godliness is wisdom: and to abstain from evil is understanding.
