Jeremías 42

1 Entonces se acercaron todos los capitanes de las fuerzas, y Johanan, el hijo de Carea, y Jezania, el hijo de Osaias, y toda la gente de menor a mayor,

And all the captains of the forces, and Johanan, the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah, the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people, from the least even to the greatest, came near,

2 Y dijeron al profeta Jeremías: Que nuestra petición venga ante ti, y ora por nosotros al Señor tu Dios, por todos nosotros los que quedamos; porque solo somos unos pocos de lo que fue un gran número, como puedes ver.

and said to Jeremiah the prophet: “Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us to Jehovah, thy God, for all this remnant; (for we are left a few out of many, as thine eyes do behold us; )

3 Para que el Señor tu Dios nos aclare la manera en que debemos seguir y lo que debemos hacer.

that Jehovah, thy God, may show us the way wherein we shall walk, and the thing which we shall do.”

4 Entonces el profeta Jeremías les dijo: los he oído; Mira, haré oración al Señor tu Dios, como has dicho; y será que, sea lo que sea lo que el Señor diga en respuesta a ti, te daré una palabra de ello, sin guardar nada.

And Jeremiah the prophet said to them: “I have heard; behold, I will pray to Jehovah your God, according to your words, and all which Jehovah shall answer you I will declare to you; I will keep back nothing from you.”

5 Entonces dijeron a Jeremías: Que el Señor sea un testigo fiel y verdadero contra nosotros de buena fe, si no hacemos todo lo que el Señor tu Dios te envía para decirnos.

Then they said to Jeremiah: “May Jehovah be our witness, a faithful and true witness! According to all for which Jehovah our God shall send thee to us, so will we do.

6 Si es bueno o si es malo, seremos guiados por la voz del Señor nuestro Dios, a quien te estamos enviando; para que nos vaya bien cuando escuchemos la voz del Señor nuestro Dios.

Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of Jehovah our God, to whom we send thee, that it may be well with us when we shall have obeyed the voice of Jehovah our God.”

7 Y sucedió que después de diez días la palabra del Señor vino a Jeremías.

And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah.

8 Y envió a buscar a Johanan, el hijo de Carea, y a todos los capitanes de las fuerzas que todavía estaban con él, y a toda la gente, desde los más pequeños hasta los más grandes,

And he called Johanan, the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces which were with him, and all the people, from the least even to the greatest,

9 Y les dijo: Estas son las palabras del Señor, el Dios de Israel, a quien me enviaste para interceder por ustedes.

and said to them: “Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, to whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him:

10 Si se quedan en esta tierra, los prosperaré y no derribaré, plantaré y no los arrancaré, estoy arrepentido del mal que les he hecho.

If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I repent me of the evil which I have done to you.

11 No tengan miedo del rey de Babilonia, de quien ahora tienen miedo; no le teman, dice el Señor, porque yo estoy contigo para protegerlos y librarlo de su poder.

Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith Jehovah; for I will be with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

12 Y tendré misericordia de ustedes, y haré que él tenga misericordia de ustedes y les permita regresar a su tierra.

And I will show mercies to you, that he may have compassion upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.

13 Pero si dicen: No tenemos ningún deseo de seguir viviendo en esta tierra; y no obedecen la voz del Señor su Dios,

But if ye say, 'We will not dwell in this land,' so as not to hearken to the voice of Jehovah your God,

14 Diciendo: No, pero iremos a la tierra de Egipto, donde no veremos la guerra, o escucharemos el sonido del cuerno, o necesitaremos comida; allí haremos nuestro lugar de vida;

saying, 'No! but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor be hungry for bread, and there will we dwell, —

15 Ahora escucha la palabra del Señor, oh el último de Judá: el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, ha dicho: Si tus mentes están fijadas en ir a Egipto y detenerse allí;

now, therefore, hear the word of Jehovah, ye remnant of Judah! Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: If ye set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there,

16 Entonces sucederá que la espada, que es la causa de tu temor, te alcanzará allí en la tierra de Egipto, y el hambre, que temes, te perseguirá allí en Egipto; y allí morirán.

then it shall come to pass that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, of which ye were afraid, shall follow close after you into Egypt, and there shall ye die.

17 Tal será el destino de todos los hombres cuyas mentes están fijas en ir a Egipto y detenerse allí; llegarán a su fin con la espada, sin comida y con la enfermedad; ninguno de ellos se quedará con vida ni se librará del mal que les enviaré.

So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there. They shall die by the sword, and by famine, and by pestilence, and not one of them shall remain, or escape from the evil which I bring upon them.

18 Porque esto es lo que ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: Así como mi ira y mi furor se han desatado sobre la gente de Jerusalén, así se desatará mi furor cuando vayan a Egipto; y se convertirán en una maldición, espanto, imprecación y en una burla; y nunca volverán a ver este lugar.

For thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: As my anger and my wrath have been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so shall my wrath be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt; and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.

19 El Señor ha dicho acerca de ti, oh el remanente de Judá, no vayas a Egipto; sépanlo bien que hoy se los he advertido.

This is the word of Jehovah to you, ye remnant of Judah! Go ye not into Egypt; ye shall surely know that I have warned you this day.

20 Porque han estado actuando con engaño en sus corazones; porque me enviaste al Señor tu Dios, diciendo: ora por nosotros al Señor nuestro Dios, y danos una palabra de todo lo que él pueda decir, y lo haremos.

Ye err to your own ruin; for ye sent me to Jehovah your God, saying, 'Pray for us to Jehovah our God, and according to all that Jehovah our God shall say, so declare to us, and we will do it';

21 Y hoy te lo he aclarado, y tú no has escuchado la voz del Señor tu Dios en nada por lo que me ha enviado.

and now I have this day declared it to you, but ye have not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah your God, nor to anything for which he sent me to you.

22 Y ahora, ahora sepan bien de que llegarás al fin de tu vida con la espada, con hambre y enfermedad, en el lugar donde desean ir a residir.

Now, therefore, ye shall know assuredly, that by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence ye shall die, in the place whither ye have chosen to go and to sojourn.”
