Jeremías 10
1 Escucha la palabra que el Señor te dice, pueblo de Israel:
Hear ye the word which Yahweh hath spoken unto you, O house of Israel: —
2 Esto es lo que el Señor ha dicho: No vayas por el camino de las naciones; no temas a las señales del cielo, como estas las naciones lo hacen.
Thus, saith Yahweh—Unto the way of the nations, become not ye accustomed, Nor at the signs of the heavens, be ye dismayed, —Because the nations are dismayed at them.
3 Porque lo que es temido por el pueblo es necio; es obra de los obreros; porque un árbol es cortado por el obrero en el bosque con su hacha.
For as for the prescribed customs of the peoples, vanity, they are, —For a tree out of the forest, one cutteth down, Work for the hands of a skilled workman with the axe:
4 Lo hacen hermoso con plata y oro; Lo hacen fuerte con clavos y martillos, para que no se mueva.
With silver and with gold, he decketh it, —With nails and with hammers, they fasten them, that it may not totter.
5 Es como una palmera erguida en un jardín de plantas, y no tiene voz; tiene que ser levantada, porque no tiene poder para caminar. No tengas miedo de ello; porque no tiene poder para hacer el mal y no puede hacer ningún bien.
Mere palm-trunks turned, they are and cannot speak, They must needs be, carried, for they cannot take a step, Be not afraid of them, for they cannot do harm, And even to do good, is not in their power.
6 No hay nadie como tú, oh Señor; Eres grande y tu nombre es grande en poder.
None, there is, like unto thee, O Yahweh, —Great, art, thou, And, great, is thy Name, for might.
7 ¿Quién no te temerá, oh Rey de las naciones? porque te lo mereces, porque entre todos los sabios de las naciones y en todos sus reinos, no hay nadie como tú.
Who would not revere thee, O King of nations? For, thee, doth it beseem; Forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations And throughout all their royal estate, None, there is like unto thee.
8 Todos ellos son torpes y necios; en su enseñanza de vanidades; pues su dios es madera.
But at once, do they become brutish and stupid, —An example of utmost vanity, is, a tree!
9 La plata martillada en placas se envía desde Tarsis, y el oro desde Ufaz, el trabajo del experto y de las manos del trabajador del oro; Azul y púrpura es su vestimenta, todo el trabajo de hombres expertos.
Silver spread into plates, from Tarshish is brought, And gold, from Uphaz, Work for the craftsman and for the hands of the smith, —Blue and purple, is their clothing, Work for the skilled, are they all.
10 Pero el Señor es el Dios verdadero; él es el Dios vivo y un rey eterno; cuando está enojado, la tierra tiembla de miedo y las naciones ceden ante su ira.
But, Yahweh, is God in truth, He, is a God that, liveth, And a King of times age-abiding, —At his anger, quaketh the earth, And nations cannot endure his wrath.
11 Esto es lo que debes decirles: los dioses que no han hecho los cielos y la tierra serán cortados de la tierra y de debajo de los cielos.
Thus, shall ye say unto them, The gods that made not the heavens, And the earth, Shall perish out of the earth, And from under these heavens!
12 Él hizo la tierra por su poder, hizo al mundo fuerte en su lugar por su sabiduría, y por su sabio designio los cielos se han extendido.
He that made the earth by his power, That established the world by his wisdom, —And by his understanding stretched out the heavens,
13 Al sonido de su voz hay una masa de aguas en los cielos, y él hace que las nieblas suban desde los confines de la tierra; hace truenos para la lluvia y envía el viento desde sus almacenes.
At the voice that he uttered, there was a tumult of waters in the heavens, And he caused vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth, —The lightnings for rain, he made, And brought forth wind out of his treasuries.
14 Entonces cada hombre se vuelve como una bestia sin conocimiento; Todos los trabajadores del oro son avergonzados por la imagen que ha creado; porque su imagen de metal es un engaño, y no hay aliento en ellos.
Every son of earth hath become too brutish to discern, Every goldsmith, hath been put to shame by a graven image, —For a falsehood, is his molten image, Seeing there is no breath in them.
15 No son nada, una obra de escarnio; en el momento de su castigo, la destrucción los alcanzará.
Vanity, they are, the handiwork of mockeries, —In the time of their visitation, shall they perish.
16 La herencia de Jacob no es así; porque el creador de todas las cosas es su herencia; el Señor de los ejércitos es su nombre.
Not like these, is the portion of Jacob, For the fashioner of all things, is, he, And, Israel, is his inherited sceptre, —Yahweh of hosts, is his name.
17 Reúne tus bienes y sal de la tierra, oh tú que estás encerrado en la ciudad amurallada.
Fold up, from the ground thy travelling carpet, —O inhabitress of the fortress;
18 Porque el Señor ha dicho: Enviaré a la gente en vuelo como una piedra de la tierra en este momento, afligiendolos para que estén conscientes de ello.
For, thus, saith Yahweh, Behold me! slinging out the inhabitants of the land at this throw, —And I will distress them that they may discover it.
19 ¡El dolor es mío porque estoy herido! mi herida puede no estar bien; y dije: “Cruel es mi enfermedad, puede que no me libere de ella”.
Woe to me! for my grievous injury, Severe, is my wound, —But, I, said, Verily, this, is an affliction and I must bear it:
20 Mi tienda está derribada y todas mis cuerdas están rotas; mis hijos se han alejado de mí, y ya no existen; ya no hay nadie para ayudar a estirar mi tienda y colgar mis cortinas.
My tent, is laid waste, And all my tent-cords, are broken, —My children, are gone forth from me and they, are not. There is none, To stretch out any more my tent, Or to set up my curtains.
21 Porque los guardianes de las ovejas se han vuelto como bestias, no miran al Señor en busca de dirección, así que no lo han hecho sabiamente y todos sus rebaños han sido esparcidos.
For the shepherds, have become brutish, And Yahweh, have they not sought, —For this cause, have they not prospered, And, all their flock, is scattered.
22 Las noticias están sucediendo, mira, está viniendo, un gran temblor viene del norte del país, para que las ciudades de Judá se conviertan en residuos y se conviertan en el lugar donde viven los chacales.
The noise of a rumour! lo it hath come! Even a great commotion out of the land of the North, —To make the cities of Judah, A desolation, A den of jackals.
23 Oh Señor, estoy consciente que no depende del hombre su camino; el hombre no tiene el poder de guiar sus pasos.
I know O Yahweh, That not to a son of earth, pertaineth his own path, —Not, to the man who walketh, also to direct his own steps.
24 Oh SEÑOR, líbrame, pero con sabios propósitos; No en tu ira, o me reduces a nada.
Chastise me, O Yahweh But yet in measure, —Not in thine anger, lest thou make me few.
25 Deja que tu ira se suelte sobre las naciones que no te conocen, y sobre las familias que no adoran tu nombre; porque han devorado a Jacob, en verdad lo han devorado y acabó con él e hizo de sus campos ruinas.
Pour out thy wrath—Upon the nations that know thee not, and Upon the families that, upon thy Name, have not called, —For they have devoured Jacob Yea they have devoured him and consumed him, And, his habitation, have they made desolate.
