Santiago 4

1 ¿Cuál es la causa de las guerras y peleas entre ustedes? ¿No son sus pasiones lo que está en lucha interna en sus cuerpos?

Where do the conflicts and quarrels that go on among you come from? Do they not come from your passions which are always making war among your bodily members?

2 Desean, y no obtienes su deseo, matán; están llenos de envidia y no puedes obtener su deseo, entonces estás peleando y se hacen la guerra; ustedes no obtienen su deseo, porque no lo piden.

You continually crave and do not obtain; you are killing and coveting and cannot acquire; you are fighting and at war. You do not have, because you do not ask.

3 Hacen su petición pero no lo obtienen, porque lo piden. Incorrectamente, por egoísmo para su propio placer.

You continue to ask and do not receive, because you are asking with a wrong purpose, in order to spend it upon your pleasures.

4 ¡Oh, almas adúlteras! ¿no saben que ser amigos de este mundo es ser enemigos de Dios? Todo hombre que desee ser amigo de este mundo se odia a sí mismo.

You adulteresses, do you not know that the friendship of the world is enmity to God? Whoever, then, desires to be a friend of the world, makes himself and enemy of God.

5 O piensan que es en vano lo que dicen las Sagradas Escrituras, el Espíritu que Dios puso en nuestros corazones nos anhela celosamente?

Or do you suppose that it is in vain that the Scripture says, "The spirit which has its home in us yearns over us unto jealousy?"

6 Pero él da más gracia. Por eso dice, Dios está en contra de los hombres orgullosos, pero él da gracia a aquellos que se humillan ante él.

But he gives more and more grace. therefore it is said, God ever resists the proud; but to the humble he gives grace continually.

7 Sométanse a Dios; resistan al diablo y él huirá de ustedes.

So then ever be subject to God, Ever resist the devil and he will flee from you.

8 Acérquense a Dios y él se acercará a ustedes. Limpien sus manos, pecadores. Purifiquen sus corazones, ustedes que quieren amar al mundo y a Dios a la vez.

Draw near to God And he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, And purify your hearts, you double-minded.

9 Aflíjanse con tristeza y llanto; dejen que su risa se convierta en dolor y su alegría en dolor.

Lament and mourn, and weep aloud! Let your laughter be turned into mourning, And your joy into gloom!

10 Humíllense ante los ojos del Señor y serán exaltados por él.

Humble yourselves before the Lord, And he will raise you up.

11 No digan mal el uno contra el otro, mis hermanos. El que dice mal contra su hermano o juzga a su hermano, dice mal contra la ley y juzga la ley; y al juzgar la ley, no eres un hacedor de la ley, sino un juez.

Do not be talking against each other, brothers. He who is talking against a brother and condemning his brothers is talking against the Law and condemning the Law. But if you are condemning the Law, you are not a doer of the Law, but a judge.

12 Hay un solo juez y legislador, incluso el que tiene el poder de la salvación y la destrucción; pero ¿quién eres tú para ser el juez de tu vecino?

But One is your Lawgiver and Judge - he who is able to save and to destroy. But you, who are you, to be condemning your neighbor?

13 Qué tonto es decir: Hoy o mañana iremos a esta ciudad, y estaremos allí por un año y haremos negocios allí y obtendremos riquezas:

Go to now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we shall journey to such a city and spend a year there, and trade and make money,"

14 Cuando no están seguros de lo que sucederá mañana. Que es con su vida? Es una niebla, que se ve por un tiempo y luego se va.

when all the time you do not know what will happen on the morrow. For what is your life? You are but a mist, appearing for a brief time, and then vanishing.

15 Pero lo correcto sería decir: Si es el placer del Señor y si todavía estamos vivos, haremos esto y lo otro.

You ought instead to say, "If the Lord wills it, we shall live and do this or that."

16 Pero ahora se regocijan en su orgullo, y todo ese regocijo es malo.

But now you are glorying in these insolent boastings of yours; all such glorying is evil.

17 El hombre que tiene conocimiento de cómo hacer el bien y no lo hace, para él es pecado.

So to him who knows how to do right and does not do it, to him it is sin.
