Génesis 44

1 Entonces dio órdenes al siervo que estaba sobre su casa, diciendo: Pongan todo el alimento en las bolsas de los hombres que trajeron con ellos, y pongan el dinero de cada uno en la boca de su bolsa;

And he commanded the steward of his house, saying, Fill the men's sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man's money in his sack's mouth.

2 Y pon mi copa, mi copa de plata, en la bolsa del hermano menor, con su dinero. Entonces él hizo lo que dijo José.

And put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack's mouth of the youngest, and his grain money. And he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken.

3 Y al amanecer los hombres, con sus asnos, fueron enviados lejos.

As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their donkeys.

4 Y cuando se habían alejado un poco de la ciudad, José dijo al siervo que estaba sobre su casa: Ve tras ellos; y cuando los alcances, diles: ¿Por qué has hecho mal por bien?

And when they were gone out of the city, and were not yet far off, Joseph said to his steward, Up, follow after the men, and when thou overtake them, say to them, Why have ye rewarded evil for good?

5 ¿No es este el cáliz del que mi señor toma el vino y por el cual obtiene conocimiento del futuro? En verdad, has hecho el mal.

Is not this that in which my lord drinks, and how he indeed divines? Ye have done evil in so doing.

6 Entonces él los alcanzó y les dijo estas palabras.

And he overtook them, and he spoke to them these words.

7 Y ellos le dijeron: ¿Por qué dice mi señor tales palabras? No está en tus siervos hacer tal cosa:

And they said to him, Why does my lord speak such words as these? Far be it from thy servants that they should do such a thing.

8 Mira, el dinero que estaba en nuestras bolsas te lo devolvimos cuando volvimos de Canaán. ¿Cómo, entonces, podríamos tomar plata u oro de la casa de tu señor?

Behold, the money, which we found in our sacks' mouths, we brought again to thee out of the land of Canaan. How then would we steal out of thy lord's house silver or gold?

9 Si sale a la luz que alguno de tus siervos hizo esto, que lo maten, y nosotros seremos siervos de tu señor.

With whomever of thy servants it be found, let him die, and we also will be my lord's bondmen.

10 Y él dijo: Sea como tú dices: aquel en cuya bolsa se verá será mi siervo; y no serás responsable.

And he said, Now also let it be according to your words. He with whom it is found shall be my bondman, and ye shall be blameless.

11 Entonces cada hombre rápidamente bajó su bolsa y la desabrochó.

Then they hurried, and took down every man his sack to the ground, and opened every man his sack.

12 Y él hizo una búsqueda, comenzando con el mayor y terminando con el más joven; y la copa estaba en la bolsa de Benjamín.

And he searched, and began at the eldest, and left off at the youngest. And the cup was found in Benjamin's sack.

13 Entonces, en dolor amargo, volvieron a poner las bolsas en los asnos y regresaron a la ciudad.

Then they tore their clothes, and every man loaded his donkey, and returned to the city.

14 Entonces Judá y sus hermanos fueron a la casa de José; y él todavía estaba allí; y se postraron sobre sus rostros delante de él.

And Judah and his brothers came to Joseph's house. And he was yet there, and they fell before him on the ground.

15 Y dijo José: ¿Qué es esto que has hecho? ¿No pensaste que un hombre como yo tendría poder para ver lo que es secreto?

And Joseph said to them, What deed is this that ye have done? Know ye not that such a man as I can indeed divine?

16 Y Judá dijo: ¿Qué hemos de decir a mi señor? ¿Cómo podemos ponernos en sus ojos? Dios ha dejado en claro el pecado de tus siervos: ahora estamos en tus manos, nosotros y el hombre en cuya bolsa se ha visto tu copa.

And Judah said, What shall we say to my lord? What shall we speak, or how shall we clear ourselves? God has found out the iniquity of thy servants. Behold, we are my lord's bondmen, both we, and he also in whose hand the cup is found.

17 Entonces él dijo: ¡Lejos esté de mí hacer eso! Pero el hombre que tenía mi copa será mi siervo; y puedes volver a tu padre en paz.

And he said, Far be it from me that I should do so. The man in whose hand the cup is found, he shall be my bondman, but as for you, get you up in peace to your father.

18 Entonces Judá se le acercó, y dijo: Deja que tu siervo pronuncie una palabra en oídos de mi señor, y no se encienda tu furor contra tu siervo; porque tú estás en el lugar de Faraón para nosotros.

Then Judah came near to him, and said, Oh, my lord, let thy servant, I pray thee, speak a word in my lord's ears, and let not thine anger burn against thy servant, for thou are even as Pharaoh.

19 Mi señor dijo a sus siervos: ¿Tienes padre o hermano?

My lord asked his servants, saying, Have ye a father, or a brother?

20 Y dijimos a mi señor: Tenemos un padre viejo y un niño pequeño, que tenía cuando era viejo; su hermano está muerto y él es el único hijo de su madre, y es muy querido por su padre.

And we said to my lord, We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, a little one. And his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother, and his father loves him.

21 Y dijiste a tus siervos: Déjenlo que venga a mí con ustedes, para que yo pueda verlo.

And thou said to thy servants, Bring him down to me, that I may set my eyes upon him.

22 Y dijimos a mi señor: Su padre no lo dejará ir; porque si se fuera, su padre vendría a la muerte.

And we said to my lord, The young man cannot leave his father, for if he should leave his father, his father would die.

23 Pero dijiste a tus siervos: Si tu hermano menor no viene contigo, no volverás a ver mi rostro.

And thou said to thy servants, Unless your youngest brother come down with you, ye shall see my face no more.

24 Y cuando volvimos a tu siervo, nuestro padre, le dimos cuenta de las palabras de mi señor.

And it came to pass when we came up to thy servant my father, we told him the words of my lord.

25 Y nuestro padre dijo: Ve otra vez y compra un poco de comida.

And our father said, Go again, buy us a little food.

26 Y nosotros dijimos: Solamente si nuestro hermano menor va con nosotros, descenderemos; porque quizás no volvamos a ver la cara del hombre si nuestro hermano menor no está con nosotros.

And we said, We cannot go down. If our youngest brother be with us, then will we go down, for we may not see the man's face unless our youngest brother be with us.

27 Y nuestro padre nos dijo: Tú sabes que mi mujer me dio dos hijos;

And thy servant my father said to us, Ye know that my wife bore me two sons.

28 . El uno se alejó de mí, y yo dije: Verdaderamente ha venido a la muerte violenta; y desde ese momento no lo he visto,

And the one went out from me, and I said, Surely he is torn in pieces, and I have not seen him since.

29 Si ahora me quitas este, y algún mal viene a él, harás que mi cabeza gris baje en tristeza al sepulcro. (Sheol h7585)

And if ye take this one also from me, and harm befall him, ye will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol. (Sheol h7585)

30 Si entonces vuelvo a tu siervo, mi padre, sin el niño, porque su vida y la del niño son una,

Now therefore when I come to thy servant my father, and the young man is not with us, since his life is bound up in the young man's life,

31 Cuando vea que el niño no está con nosotros, vendrá a su muerte, y la cabeza gris de nuestro padre caerá en tristeza al sepulcro. (Sheol h7585)

it will come to pass, when he sees that the young man is not with us, that he will die. And thy servants will bring down the gray hairs of thy servant our father with sorrow to Sheol. (Sheol h7585)

32 Porque me hice responsable del niño con mi padre, y le dije: Si no se lo devuelvo a salvo, que el mío sea el pecado para siempre.

For thy servant became surety for the young man to my father, saying, If I do not bring him to thee, then I shall bear the blame to my father forever.

33 Así que ahora déjame ser el siervo de mi señor aquí en lugar del niño, y que él regrese con sus hermanos.

Now therefore, let thy servant, I pray thee, abide a bondman to my lord instead of the young man, and let the young man go up with his brothers.

34 Porque ¿cómo puedo volver a mi padre sin él niño? y ver el mal que vendrá sobre mi padre.

For how shall I go up to my father, if the young man be not with me? Lest I see the evil that shall come on my father.
