Génesis 31

1 Y vinieron a oídos de Jacob los hijos de Labán, diciendo: Jacob se ha llevado todas las propiedades de nuestro padre, y de esta manera ha obtenido toda esta riqueza.

But afterwards, he heard the words of the sons of Laban, saying, “Jacob has taken all that was our father’s, and being enlarged by his ability, he has become famous.”

2 Y Jacob vio que la sensación de Labán por él ya no era lo que había sido antes.

Likewise, he observed that Laban’s face was not the same toward him as it was yesterday and the day before.

3 Entonces Jehová dijo a Jacob: Vuelve a la tierra de tus padres, y á tus parientes, y yo estaré contigo.

Most importantly, the Lord was saying to him, “Return to the land of your fathers and to your generation, and I will be with you.”

4 Y envió Jacob a buscar a Raquel y a Lea, para que viniesen a él en el campo entre su rebaño.

He sent and called for Rachel and Leah, in the field where he pastured the flocks,

5 Y él les dijo: Está claro para mí que el sentimiento de tu padre ya no es lo que era para mí; pero el Dios de mi padre ha estado conmigo.

and he said to them: “I see that your father’s face is not the same toward me as it was yesterday and the day before. But the God of my father has been with me.

6 y has visto cómo hice todo lo que estaba en mi poder para tu padre,

And you know that I have served your father with all my strength.

7 Pero tu padre no me ha guardado fe, y diez veces ha hecho cambios en mi pago; pero Dios ha impedido que me haga daño.

Even so, your father has circumvented me, and he has changed my wages ten times. And yet God has not permitted him to harm me.

8 Si él decía: Todos los del rebaño que tienen las manchas serán tuyos, entonces toda las hembras dieron a luz crías manchadas; y si él dijera: “Todos los que están rayados deben ser tuyos”, entonces todas las crías de las ovejas eran rayadas.

Whenever he said, ‘The speckled will be your wages,’ all the sheep gave birth to speckled newborns. Yet truly, when he said the contrary, ‘You will take whatever is white for your wages,’ all the flocks gave birth to white ones.

9 Así que Dios ha quitado el ganado de tu padre y me lo ha dado.

And it is God who has taken your father’s substance and given it to me.

10 Y en el tiempo en que el rebaño estaba con crías, vi en sueños que todos los macho cabríos que subían a las cabras estaban matizadas, rayadas y coloreadas.

For after the time had arrived for the ewes to conceive, I lifted up my eyes, and I saw in my sleep that the males climbing on the females were of variegated, and spotted, and diverse colors.

11 Y en mi sueño el ángel del Señor me dijo: Jacob, y dije: Heme aquí.

And the Angel of God said to me in my sleep, ‘Jacob.’ And I responded, ‘Here I am.’

12 Y él dijo: Mira cómo todos los machos cabríos están rayados, y marcados y coloreados; porque yo he visto lo que Labán te ha hecho.

And he said: ‘Lift up your eyes, and see that all the males climbing on the females are variegated, spotted, and also speckled. For I have seen all that Laban has done to you.

13 Yo soy el Dios de Bet-el, donde pusiste aceite sobre la columna y me hiciste un juramento: ahora, sal de esta tierra y regresa a la tierra de tu nacimiento.

I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed the stone and made a vow to me. Now therefore arise, and depart from this land, returning to the land of your nativity.’”

14 Entonces Raquel y Lea le respondieron: ¿Qué parte o herencia tenemos en la casa de nuestro padre?

And Rachel and Leah responded: “Have we anything left behind among the resources and inheritance of our father’s house?

15 ¿No somos como personas de un país extraño para él? porque él tomó un precio por nosotras y ahora todo está agotado.

Has he not considered us as foreigners, and sold us, and consumed our price?

16 Porque la riqueza que Dios le ha quitado es nuestra y la de nuestros hijos; así que ahora, lo que sea que Dios te haya dicho, hazlo.

But God has taken our father’s riches and handed these to us and to our sons. Therefore, do all that God has instructed you.”

17 Entonces Jacob puso sus mujeres y sus hijos en camellos;

And so Jacob rose up, and having placed the children and his wives upon camels, he went forth.

18 Y enviando delante de sí todo su ganado y sus bienes que había juntado en Padan-aram, se preparó para ir con su padre Isaac a la tierra de Canaán.

And he took all his substance and flocks, and whatever he had acquired in Mesopotamia, and he journeyed to his father Isaac, in the land of Canaan.

19 Y Labán había ido a ver cortar la lana de sus ovejas; entonces Raquel secretamente tomó las imágenes de los dioses de la casa de su padre.

At that time, Laban had gone to shear the sheep, and so Rachel stole her father’s idols.

20 Y Jacob se fue en secreto, sin dar noticias de su vuelo a Labán arameo.

And Jacob was not willing to confess to his father-in-law that he was fleeing.

21 Entonces él se fue con todo lo que tenía, y cruzó el río en dirección a la región montañosa de Galaad.

And when he had gone away with all such things that were justly his, and, having crossed the river, was continuing on toward Mount Gilead,

22 Y al tercer día Labán tuvo noticias de la huida de Jacob.

it was reported to Laban on the third day that Jacob had fled.

23 Y llevándose consigo a los hombres de su familia, lo siguió durante siete días, y lo alcanzó en la región montañosa de Galaad.

And taking his brothers with him, he pursued him for seven days. And he overtook him at Mount Gilead.

24 Entonces Dios vino a Labán en un sueño de noche, y le dijo: Mira que no digas nada bueno o malo a Jacob.

And he saw in a dream, God saying to him, “Beware that you not speak anything harsh against Jacob.”

25 Y cuando Labán lo alcanzó, Jacob había levantado su tienda en la región montañosa; y Labán y sus hermanos levantaron sus tiendas en la región montañosa de Galaad.

And now Jacob had pitched his tent at the mountain. And when he, with his brothers, had overtaken him, he set his tent at the same place at Mount Gilead.

26 Y Labán respondió a Jacob: ¿Por qué te fuiste en secreto, y quitaste mis hijas como prisioneros de guerra?

And he said to Jacob: “Why have you acted this way, departing from me in secret, with my daughters like captives of the sword?

27 ¿Por qué has ocultado tu huida, sin decirme nada sobre él, para haberte despedido con alegría y canciones, con tamboril y arpa?

Why would you want to flee without my knowledge and without telling me, though I might have led you forward with gladness, and songs, and timbrels, and lyres?

28 Ni siquiera me permitiste dar un beso a mis hijos y mis hijas. Esto fue una tontería.

You have not permitted me to kiss my sons and daughters. You have acted foolishly. And now, indeed,

29 Está en mi poder dañarte; pero el Dios de tu padre vino a mí esta noche, diciendo: Cuídate de no decir nada bueno o malo a Jacob.

my hand has power to repay you with harm. But the God of your father said to me yesterday, ‘Beware that you not speak anything stern against Jacob.’

30 Y ahora, parece, vas porque el deseo de tu corazón es para la casa de tu padre; pero ¿por qué has tomado mis dioses?

It may be that you desired to go to your own, and that you longed for the house of your father. But why have you stolen my gods?”

31 Y Jacob, respondiendo, dijo a Labán: Mi temor era que me quitaras tus hijas por la fuerza.

Jacob answered: “I set out, unknown to you, because I feared that you might take away your daughters by violence.

32 En cuanto a tus dioses, si alguno de nosotros los tiene, déjalo morir: haz que todos escudriñen lo que es tuyo, y tómalo. Porque Jacob no sabía que Raquel los había tomado.

But, since you accuse me of theft, with whomever you will find your gods, let him be slain in the sight of our brothers. Search; anything of yours that you will find with me, take it away.” Now when he said this, he did not know that Rachel had stolen the idols.

33 Entonces Labán entró en la tienda de Jacob, en la tienda de Lea, y en las tiendas de las dos siervas, pero no estaban allí; y él salió de la tienda de Lea y fue a la casa de Raquel.

And so Laban, entering the tent of Jacob, and of Leah, and of both the handmaids, did not find them. And when he had entered the tent of Rachel,

34 Entonces Raquel tomó las imágenes, y las puso en el cesto de los camellos, y se sentó sobre ellas. Y Labán, buscando en toda la tienda, no se encontró con ellos.

she quickly hid the idols under the camel’s bedding, and she sat upon them. And when he had searched the entire tent and found nothing,

35 Y ella dijo a su padre: No se enoje mi señor, porque no me levanto delante de ti, porque estoy en la condición común de las mujeres. Y con toda su búsqueda, no encontró las imágenes.

she said: “Do not be angry, my lord, that I am unable to rise up in your sight, because it has now happened to me according to the custom of women.” So his careful search was thwarted.

36 Entonces Jacob se enojó con Labán, y dijo: ¿Qué crimen o pecado he cometido, que hayas venido detrás de mí con tanta pasión?

And Jacob, being inflated, said with contention: “For which fault of mine, or for what sin of mine, have you become so enraged against me

37 Ahora que has buscado entre todos mis bienes, ¿qué has visto que es tuyo? Deje en claro ahora ante mi gente y tu gente, para que puedan ser jueces entre nosotros.

and searched all the items of my house? What have you found from all the substance of your house? Place it here before my brothers, and your brothers, and let them judge between me and you.

38 Estos veinte años he estado contigo; tus ovejas y tus cabras han tenido crías sin pérdida, ni uno de tus cabras he tomado por comida.

For what reason have I been with you for twenty years? Your ewes and she-goats were not barren; the rams of your flocks I did not consume.

39 No te lleve nada que fuera herido por bestias, pero yo lo compensé; me hiciste responsable de todo lo que robaban los ladrones, de día o de noche.

Neither did I reveal to you what was seized by the wild beast. I replaced all that was damaged. Whatever was lost by theft, you collected it from me.

40 Esta era mi condición, desperdiciada por el calor en el día y por el frío amargo de la noche; y el sueño desapareció de mis ojos.

Day and night, I was burned by heat and by frost, and sleep fled from my eyes.

41 Estos veinte años he estado en tu casa; Fui tu sirviente durante catorce años por tus hijas, y durante seis años mantuve tu rebaño, y diez veces se modificó mi pago.

And in this way, for twenty years, I have served you in your house: fourteen for your daughters, and six for your flocks. You have also changed my wages ten times.

42 Si el Dios de mi padre, el Dios de Abraham y el temor de Isaac, no hubiera estado conmigo, me hubieras enviado sin nada en mis manos. Pero Dios ha visto mis problemas y el trabajo de mis manos, y esta noche te ha impedido regresar.

If the God of my father Abraham and the fear of Isaac had not been close to me, perhaps by now you would have sent me away naked. But God looked kindly on my affliction and the labor of my hands, and he rebuked you yesterday.”

43 Entonces Labán, respondiendo, dijo: Estas mujeres son mis hijas, y estos hijos son mis hijos, las ovejas y todo lo que ves son míos. ¿Qué puedo hacer ahora por mis hijas y por sus hijos?

Laban answered him: “My daughters and sons, and your flocks, and all that you discern are mine. What can I do to my sons and grandchildren?

44 Ven, hagamos un acuerdo, tú y yo; y que sea un testigo entre nosotros.

Come, therefore, let us enter into a pact, so that it may be a testimony between me and you.”

45 Entonces Jacob tomó una piedra y la levantó como una columna.

And so Jacob took a stone, and he set it up as a memorial.

46 Y Jacob dijo a su pueblo: Toma piedras juntas; y lo hicieron así; y comieron allí junto a las piedras.

And he said to his brothers, “Bring stones.” And they, gathering together stones, made a tomb, and they ate upon it.

47 Y el nombre que Labán le dio fue Jegar-sahaduta; pero Jacob le dio el nombre de Galeed.

And Laban called it, ‘Tomb of Witness,’ and Jacob, ‘Pile of Testimony;’ each of them according to the fitness of his own language.

48 Y Labán dijo: Estas piedras son testimonio entre nosotros hoy. Por esta razón su nombre era Galeed,

And Laban said: “This tomb will be a witness between me and you this day.” (And for this reason, its name has been called Gilead, that is, ‘Tomb of Witness.’)

49 Y Mizpa, porque dijo: Que el Señor cuide de nosotros cuando no podemos ver los actos de los demás.

“May the Lord consider and judge between us, when we will have withdrawn from one another.

50 Si eres cruel con mis hijas, o si tomas otras esposas además de mis hijas, entonces aunque ningún hombre esté allí para ver, Dios será el testigo entre nosotros.

If you afflict my daughters, and if you bring in other wives over them, no one is a witness of our words except God, who understands beforehand.”

51 Y Labán dijo: Mira estas piedras, y esta columna que puse entre tú y yo;

And again he said to Jacob. “Lo, this tomb and the stone that I have set up between me and you,

52 Serán testigos de que no pasaré sobre estas piedras a ti, y no pasarás estas piedras ni esta columna por ningún mal propósito.

will be a witness. This tomb,” I say, “and the stone, they are for testimony, in case either I cross beyond it going toward you, or you cross beyond it thinking to harm me.

53 Que el Dios de Abraham y el Dios de Nahor, el Dios de su padre, sean nuestros jueces. Entonces Jacob juró por el temor de su padre Isaac.

May the God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us.” Therefore, Jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac.

54 Y Jacob hizo una ofrenda en el monte, y mandó a su pueblo que bebiesen; y comieron y descansaron aquella noche en la montaña.

And after he had immolated sacrifices on the mountain, he called his brothers to eat bread. And when they had eaten, they lodged there.

55 Y temprano en la mañana Labán, después de besar y bendecir a sus hijas, regresó a su país.

In truth, Laban rose up in the night, and he kissed his sons and daughters, and he blessed them. And he returned to his place.
