Génesis 30

1 Y Raquel, porque no tenía hijos, estaba llena de envidia de su hermana; y ella le dijo a Jacob: Si no me das hijos, no seguiré viviendo.

When Rachel saw that she was not bearing any children for Jacob, she envied her sister. “Give me children, or I will die!” she said to Jacob.

2 Pero Jacob se enojó contra Raquel, y dijo: ¿Soy yo en el lugar de Dios, que ha impedido que tu cuerpo tenga fruto?

Jacob became angry with Rachel and said, “Am I in the place of God, who has withheld children from you?”

3 Entonces ella dijo: Aquí está mi sierva Bilha, ve a ella, para que ella tenga un niño sobre mis rodillas, y yo pueda tener una familia junto a ella.

Then she said, “Here is my maidservant Bilhah. Sleep with her, that she may bear children for me, so that through her I too can build a family.”

4 Entonces ella le dio a su sierva Bilha como esposa, y Jacob se unió a ella.

So Rachel gave Jacob her servant Bilhah as a wife, and he slept with her,

5 Y Bilhah engendró, y dio a luz un hijo.

and Bilhah conceived and bore him a son.

6 Entonces dijo Raquel: Dios es mi juez, y ha prestado oído a mi voz, y me ha dado un hijo; así que se llamó Dan.

Then Rachel said, “God has vindicated me; He has heard my plea and given me a son.” So she named him Dan.

7 Y otra vez Bilha, sierva de Raquel, estaba encinta, y dio a luz un segundo hijo.

And Rachel’s servant Bilhah conceived again and bore Jacob a second son.

8 Y dijo Raquel: He tenido una gran pelea con mi hermana, y la he vencido; y ella le dio el nombre de Nephtali al niño.

Then Rachel said, “In my great struggles, I have wrestled with my sister and won.” So she named him Naphtali.

9 Cuando a Lea le quedó claro que no tendría más hijos por un tiempo, dio a Zilpa, su sierva, a Jacob como esposa.

When Leah saw that she had stopped having children, she gave her servant Zilpah to Jacob as a wife.

10 Y Zilpa, sierva de Lea, dio a luz un hijo.

And Leah’s servant Zilpah bore Jacob a son.

11 Y Lea dijo: Me ha ido bien, y le dio el nombre de Gad.

Then Leah said, “How fortunate!” So she named him Gad.

12 Y Zilpa, sierva de Lea, dio a luz un segundo hijo.

When Leah’s servant Zilpah bore Jacob a second son,

13 Y Lea dijo: ¡Feliz yo! y todas las mujeres darán testimonio de mi alegría: y ella le dio el nombre de Aser.

Leah said, “How happy I am! For the women call me happy.” So she named him Asher.

14 En el momento de cortar el grano, Rubén vio algunas mandrágoras en el campo, y se las llevó a su madre Lea. Y Raquel le dijo: Dame algunas de las mandrágoras de tu hijo.

Now during the wheat harvest, Reuben went out and found some mandrakes in the field. When he brought them to his mother, Rachel begged Leah, “Please give me some of your son’s mandrakes.”

15 Pero Lea le dijo: ¿Es poco lo que me has quitado a mi marido? y ahora tomarías las mandrágoras de mi hijo? Entonces Raquel dijo: Puedes tenerlo esta noche a cambio de las mandrágoras de tu hijo.

But Leah replied, “Is it not enough that you have taken away my husband? Now you want to take my son’s mandrakes as well?” “Very well,” said Rachel, “he may sleep with you tonight in exchange for your son’s mandrakes.”

16 Por la tarde, cuando Jacob vino del campo, Lea salió a él y le dijo: Esta noche vendrás a mí, porque yo te he alquilado por las mandrágoras de mi hijo. Y él fue a ella esa noche.

When Jacob came in from the field that evening, Leah went out to meet him and said, “You must come with me, for I have hired you with my son’s mandrakes.” So he slept with her that night.

17 Y Dios la oyó y ella engendró, y dio a Jacob un quinto hijo.

And God listened to Leah, and she conceived and bore a fifth son to Jacob.

18 Entonces dijo Lea: Dios me ha pagado por haberle dado mi sierva a mi marido, y le dio a su hijo el nombre de Isacar.

Then Leah said, “God has rewarded me for giving my maidservant to my husband.” So she named him Issachar.

19 Y otra vez Lea se hizo concebir, y ella dio a Jacob un sexto hijo.

Again Leah conceived and bore a sixth son to Jacob.

20 Y ella dijo: Dios me ha dado un buen dote; ahora, por fin, tendré a mi esposo viviendo conmigo, porque le he dado seis hijos; y ella le dio el nombre de Zabulón.

“God has given me a good gift,” she said. “This time my husband will honor me, because I have borne him six sons.” And she named him Zebulun.

21 Después de eso ella tuvo una hija, a quien le dio el nombre de Dina.

After that, Leah gave birth to a daughter and named her Dinah.

22 Entonces Dios pensó en Raquel, y al escuchar su oración la hizo fértil.

Then God remembered Rachel. He listened to her and opened her womb,

23 Y ella estaba encinta, y dio a luz un hijo; y ella dijo: Dios se ha llevado mi vergüenza.

and she conceived and gave birth to a son. “God has taken away my shame,” she said.

24 Y le dio el nombre de José, diciendo: ¡Que el Señor me dé otro hijo!

She named him Joseph, and said, “May the LORD add to me another son.”

25 Y después del nacimiento de José, Jacob dijo a Labán: Déjame ir a mi lugar y a mi país.

Now after Rachel had given birth to Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, “Send me on my way so I can return to my homeland.

26 Dame mis mujeres y mis hijos, por quienes he sido tu siervo, y déjame ir, porque tú tienes conocimiento de todo el trabajo que he hecho por ti.

Give me my wives and children for whom I have served you, that I may go on my way. You know how hard I have worked for you.”

27 Y Labán dijo: Si me permites que lo diga, no te vayas; porque he visto por las señales de que el Señor ha sido bueno conmigo por causa de ti.

But Laban replied, “If I have found favor in your eyes, please stay. I have learned by divination that the LORD has blessed me because of you.”

28 Di, entonces, cuál será tu pago y yo te lo daré.

And he added, “Name your wages, and I will pay them.”

29 Entonces Jacob dijo: Tú has visto lo que he hecho por ti, y cómo tu ganado ha hecho bien bajo mi cuidado.

Then Jacob answered, “You know how I have served you and how your livestock have thrived under my care.

30 Porque antes de que yo llegara tenías poco, y ha sido grandemente aumentado; y el Señor te ha dado una bendición en todo lo que hice; pero ¿cuándo debo hacer algo por mi familia?

Indeed, you had very little before my arrival, but now your wealth has increased many times over. The LORD has blessed you wherever I set foot. But now, when may I also provide for my own household?”

31 Y Labán dijo: ¿Qué he de darte? Y Jacob dijo: No me des nada; pero volveré a ocuparme del cuidado de tu rebaño si solo haces esto por mí:

“What can I give you?” Laban asked. “You do not need to give me anything,” Jacob replied. “If you do this one thing for me, I will keep on shepherding and keeping your flocks.

32 Déjame ir a través de todos tus rebaños hoy, sacando de entre ellos todas las ovejas que están marcadas o coloreadas o negras, y todas las cabras marcadas o de color: estas serán mi pago.

Let me go through all your flocks today and remove from them every speckled or spotted sheep, every dark-colored lamb, and every spotted or speckled goat. These will be my wages.

33 Y así podrás poner a prueba mi honor en el futuro; si ves entre mis rebaños a las cabras que no están marcadas o coloreadas, o cualquier oveja que no sea negra, puedes tomarme por un ladrón.

So my honesty will testify for me when you come to check on my wages in the future. If I have any goats that are not speckled or spotted, or any lambs that are not dark-colored, they will be considered stolen.”

34 Y Labán dijo: Deja que sea como dices.

“Agreed,” said Laban. “Let it be as you have said.”

35 Y tomó aquel día todos los machos cabríos que estaban listados o pintados, y todas las colas que estaban marcadas o coloreadas o tenían marcas blancas, y todas las ovejas negras, y las puso al cuidado de sus hijos;

That very day Laban removed all the streaked or spotted male goats and every speckled or spotted female goat—every one that had any white on it—and every dark-colored lamb, and he placed them under the care of his sons.

36 Y los envió a tres días de viaje, y Jacob se hizo cargo del resto del rebaño de Labán.

Then he put a three-day journey between himself and Jacob, while Jacob was shepherding the rest of Laban’s flocks.

37 Entonces Jacob tomó ramas verdes de árboles, y cortó la piel para que la madera blanca se viera en bandas.

Jacob, however, took fresh branches of poplar, almond, and plane trees, and peeled the bark, exposing the white inner wood of the branches.

38 Y él puso los palos con bandas en los bebederos donde el rebaño iba a buscar agua; y procrearon cuando venían a beber.

Then he set the peeled branches in the watering troughs in front of the flocks coming in to drink. So when the flocks were in heat and came to drink,

39 Y debido a esto, el rebaño dio a luz a los borregos que fueron marcados con bandas de color.

they mated in front of the branches. And they bore young that were streaked or speckled or spotted.

40 Estos corderos Jacob se mantuvieron separados; y él puso su rebaño en un lugar solo y no con el rebaño de Labán.

Jacob set apart the young, but made the rest face the streaked dark-colored sheep in Laban’s flocks. Then he set his own stock apart and did not put them with Laban’s animals.

41 Y cuando los más fuertes del rebaño se unían para tener crías, Jacob les ponía los palos en los bebederos, para que en el momento de unirse vieran los palos.

Whenever the stronger females of the flock were in heat, Jacob would place the branches in the troughs, in full view of the animals, so that they would breed in front of the branches.

42 Pero cuando las ovejas más flacas, no les puso los palos; de modo que las bandadas más débiles eran de Labán y las más fuertes eran de Jacob.

But if the animals were weak, he did not set out the branches. So the weaker animals went to Laban and the stronger ones to Jacob.

43 Así que la riqueza de Jacob se incrementó en gran manera; tenía grandes rebaños y sirvientas y sirvientes, camellos y asnos.

Thus Jacob became exceedingly prosperous. He owned large flocks, maidservants and menservants, and camels and donkeys.
