Génesis 16

1 Ahora Sarai, la esposa de Abram, no le había dado hijos; y ella tenía una sierva, una mujer de Egipto que se llamaba Agar.

Now Sarai [Mockery], Avram [Exalted father]’s wife, bore him no children. She had a servant, an Egyptian [person from Abode of slavery], whose name was Hagar [Flight].

2 Y Sarai dijo a Abram: Mira, el Señor no me ha dejado tener hijos; ve a mi sierva, porque puedo tener una familia a través de ella. Y Abram hizo lo que Sarai dijo.

Sarai [Mockery] said to Avram [Exalted father], “See now, Adonai has restrained me from bearing. Please go in to my servant. It may be that I will obtain children by her.” Avram [Exalted father] sh'ma ·hear obey· the voice of Sarai [Mockery].

3 Después de vivir Abram diez años en la tierra de Canaán, Sara tomó a Agar, su sierva egipcia, y se la dio a Abram por su mujer.

Sarai [Mockery], Avram [Exalted father]’s wife, took Hagar [Flight] the Egyptian [person from Abode of slavery], her servant, after Avram [Exalted father] had lived ten years in the land of Canaan [Humbled], and gave her to Avram [Exalted father] her husband to be his wife.

4 Y tuvo relaciones con Agar y ella engendró, y cuando vio que estaba encinta, ya no sentía respeto por la esposa de su amo.

He went in to Hagar [Flight], and she conceived. When she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.

5 Y Sarai dijo a Abram: Que mi mal esté contigo; te di mi sierva por tu mujer, y cuando ella vio que estaba encinta, ya no me respetó; que el Señor sea juez entre los dos. tu y yo.

Sarai [Mockery] said to Avram [Exalted father], “You have brought this wrong on me! I gave my servant into your bosom, and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes. Adonai judge between me and you.”

6 Y dijo Abram: La mujer está en tu poder; haz con ella lo que te parezca mejor. Y Sarai fue cruel con ella, por lo que huyó de ella.

But Avram [Exalted father] said to Sarai [Mockery], “Behold, your maid is in your hand. Do to her whatever is good in your eyes.” Sarai [Mockery] dealt harshly with her, and she fled from her face.

7 Y vino a ella un ángel del Señor junto a una fuente de agua en el desierto, junto a la fuente, en el camino a Shur.

Ha mal'ak Yahweh [The Angel of He sustains breathing] found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain on the way to Shur.

8 Y él dijo: Agar, sierva de Sarai, ¿de dónde vienes y adónde vas? Y ella dijo: me estoy escapando de Sarai, la esposa de mi amo.

He said, “Hagar [Flight], Sarai [Mockery]’s servant, where did you come from? Where are you going?” She said, “I am fleeing from the face of my mistress Sarai [Mockery].”

9 Y el ángel le dijo: Ve, y ponte bajo su autoridad.

Ha mal'ak Yahweh [The Angel of He sustains breathing] said to her, “Teshuvah ·Completely return· to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hands.”

10 Y el ángel del Señor dijo: Tu descendencia aumentará mucho que no se podrá contar.

Ha mal'ak Yahweh [The Angel of He sustains breathing] said to her, “I will greatly multiply your offspring, that they will not be counted for multitude.”

11 Y el ángel del SEÑOR dijo: He aquí que has concebido, y darás a luz un hijo, al cual pondrás el nombre de Ismael, porque los oídos del Señor estaban abiertos a tu aflicción.

Ha mal'ak Yahweh [The Angel of He sustains breathing] said to her, “Behold, you are with child, and will bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael [Pays attention God], because Adonai has sh'ma ·heard obeyed· your affliction.

12 Y será como asno de montaña entre los hombres; su mano estará contra cada hombre y la mano de cada hombre contra él, y él mantendrá su lugar contra todos sus hermanos.

He will be like a wild donkey among men. His hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him. He will live opposite all of his brothers.”

13 Y al Señor que hablaba con ella le dio este nombre: Tú eres un Dios que se ve; porque ella dijo: ¿acaso no he visto en la tierra baldía una visión de Dios y aún estoy viva?

She called the name of Adonai who spoke to her, “You are El Ro'i Ra'ah [God who sees me / God who provides],” for she said, “Have I even stayed alive after seeing him?”

14 Así que esa fuente fue nombrada, Fuente de Vida y Visión: está entre Cades y Bered.

Therefore the well was called Beer Lahai Roi [Well of the one who lives and sees]. Behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.

15 Y Agar dio a luz un hijo, el hijo de Abram, a quien Abram dio el nombre de Ismael.

Hagar [Flight] bore a son for Avram [Exalted father]. Avram [Exalted father] called the name of his son, whom Hagar [Flight] bore, Ishmael [Pays attention God].

16 Abram tenía ochenta y seis años cuando Agar dio a luz a Ismael.

Avram [Exalted father] was eighty-six years old when Hagar [Flight] bore Ishmael [Pays attention God] to Avram [Exalted father].
