Gálatas 4
1 Pero digo que mientras el hijo sea un niño, él no es de ninguna manera diferente a un sirviente, aunque es el señor de todo;
But I say that, during the time an heir is a child, he is no different from a servant, even though he is the owner of everything.
2 Pero está bajo tutores y administradores hasta el tiempo fijado por el padre.
For he is under tutors and caretakers, until the time which was predetermined by the father.
3 Así que, cuando éramos niños espiritualmente, nos mantenían en esclavitud bajo las primeras reglas del mundo;
So also we, when we were children, were subservient to the influences of the world.
4 Pero cuando llegó el tiempo, Dios envió a su Hijo, nacido de mujer, nacido bajo la ley,
But when the fullness of time arrived, God sent his Son, formed from a woman, formed under the law,
5 Para liberarlos de quienes estaban bajo la ley, y para que se nos diese la adopción de hijos.
so that he might redeem those who were under the law, in order that we might receive the adoption of sons.
6 Y debido a que son hijos, Dios ha enviado el Espíritu de su Hijo a nuestros corazones, diciendo: Abba, Padre.
Therefore, because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying out: “Abba, Father.”
7 Para que ya no seas siervo, sino hijo; y si eres un hijo, entonces la herencia de Dios es tuya.
And so now he is not a servant, but a son. But if he is a son, then he is also an heir, through God.
8 En otro tiempo, sin tener conocimiento de Dios, ustedes fueron siervos de aquellos que por derecho no son dioses:
But then, certainly, while ignorant of God, you served those who, by nature, are not gods.
9 Pero ahora que han venido a tener conocimiento de Dios, o más verdaderamente, Dios tiene conocimiento de ustedes, ¿cómo es? ¿que vuelves a los pobres y débiles poderes, deseando ser esclavos de ellos otra vez?
But now, since you have known God, or rather, since you have been known by God: how can you turn away again, to weak and destitute influences, which you desire to serve anew?
10 Guardas días, y meses, y tiempos fijos, y años.
You serve the days, and months, and times, and years.
11 Me temo que he estado trabajando para ti sin ningún propósito.
I am afraid for you, lest perhaps I may have labored in vain among you.
12 Mi deseo para ustedes, hermanos, es que puedan ser como yo, porque yo soy como ustedes. Ustedes no me han hecho nada malo;
Brothers, I beg you. Be as I am. For I, too, am like you. You have not injured me at all.
13 Pero saben que a pesar de una enfermedad les estaba predicando el evangelio la primera vez;
But you know that, in the weakness of the flesh, I have preached the Gospel to you for a long time, and that your trials are in my flesh.
14 Y no tenías una mala opinión de mí a causa de la tribulación en mi carne, ni me despreciaban; pero me llevaron a sus corazones como un ángel de Dios, como a Cristo Jesús.
You did not despise or reject me. But instead, you accepted me like an Angel of God, even like Christ Jesus.
15 ¿Dónde está esa alegría que sentían? porque les doy testimonio de que, de ser posible, se hubieran sacado sus ojos y me los hubieran dado.
Therefore, where is your happiness? For I offer to you testimony that, if it could be done, you would have plucked out your own eyes and would have given them to me.
16 Entonces, ¿me hecho su enemigo, porque les doy palabras verdaderas?
So then, have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?
17 Esa gente su interés en ustedes no es bueno; pero su deseo es apartarlos de nosotros, para que puedas ir tras ellos.
They are not imitating you well. And they are willing to exclude you, so that you might imitate them.
18 Pero es bueno tener interés en una buena causa en todo momento, y no solo cuando estoy presente con ustedes.
But be imitators of what is good, always in a good way, and not only when I am present with you.
19 Hijos míos, de quienes vuelvo a estar en dolores de parto, hasta que Cristo sea formado en ustedes,
My little sons, I am giving birth to you again, until Christ is formed in you.
20 Verdaderamente mi deseo es estar presente con ustedes ahora, y usar otro tono de voz; porque estoy preocupado por ustedes.
And I would willingly be present with you, even now. But I would alter my voice: for I am ashamed of you.
21 Di, tú cuyo deseo es estar bajo la ley, ¿no lees la ley?
Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, have you not read the law?
22 Porque está Escrito, que Abraham tuvo dos hijos, uno por la sierva, y el otro por la mujer libre.
For it is written that Abraham had two sons: one by a servant woman, and one by a free woman.
23 Ahora el hijo por la sierva tiene su nacimiento después de la carne; pero el hijo de la mujer libre tiene su nacimiento a través de la promesa de Dios.
And he who was of the servant was born according to the flesh. But he who was of the free woman was born by the promise.
24 Qué cosas tienen un sentido secreto; porque estas mujeres son los dos pactos; uno de la montaña del Sinaí, dando a luz a hijos de esclavitud, que es Agar.
These things are said through an allegory. For these represent the two testaments. Certainly the one, on Mount Sinai, gives birth unto servitude, which is Hagar.
25 Ahora bien, esta Agar es la montaña del Sinaí en Arabia, y es la imagen de la Jerusalén que ahora es: que es sierva con sus hijos.
For Sinai is a mountain in Arabia, which is related to the Jerusalem of the present time, and it serves with her sons.
26 Pero la Jerusalén de lo alto es libre, que es nuestra madre.
But that Jerusalem which is above is free; the same is our mother.
27 Porque está en las Escrituras, tú que nunca has dado a luz, alégrate; da gritos de alegría, tú que no has tenido dolores de parto; porque los hijos de ella que ha sido abandonado por su marido son más que los de la mujer que tiene marido.
For it was written: “Rejoice, O barren one, though you do not conceive. Burst forth and cry out, though you do not give birth. For many are the children of the desolate, even more than of her who has a husband.”
28 Ahora nosotros, hermanos, como Isaac, somos hijos de la promesa de Dios.
Now we, brothers, like Isaac, are sons of the promise.
29 Pero como en aquellos días el que nació según la carne fue cruel con el que nació después del Espíritu, así también es ahora.
But just as then, he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so also it is now.
30 ¿Qué dicen los Escritos? Echa fuera a la sierva y a su hijo; porque el hijo de la sierva no tendrá parte en la herencia con el hijo de la mujer libre.
And what does Scripture say? “Cast out the woman servant and her son. For the son of a servant women shall not be an heir with the son of a free woman.”
31 Entonces, hermanos, no somos hijos de la sierva, sino de la mujer libre.
And so, brothers, we are not the sons of the servant woman, but rather of the free woman. And this is the freedom with which Christ has set us free.
