Esdras 9
1 Después de hacer esto, los capitanes vinieron a mí y me dijeron: El pueblo de Israel y los sacerdotes y levitas no se han mantenido separados de la gente de las tierras, sino que han tomado parte en los asquerosos caminos de la tierra. Los cananeos, los hititas, los fereseos, los jebuseos, los amonitas, los moabitas, los egipcios y los amorreos.
And at the completion of these things, drawn nigh unto me have the heads, saying, 'The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not been separated from the peoples of the lands, as to their abominations, even the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite, the Ammonite, the Moabite, the Egyptian, and the Amorite,
2 Porque han tomado a sus hijas de entre las hijas de ellos para sí mismos, y para sus hijos, de modo que la semilla santa se ha mezclado con los pueblos de las tierras; y, de hecho, los capitanes y los gobernantes han sido los primeros en hacer este mal.
for they have taken of their daughters to them, and to their sons, and the holy seed have mingled themselves among the peoples of the lands, and the hand of the heads and of the seconds have been first in this trespass.'
3 Y al oír esto, con signos de dolor y arrancando el cabello de mi cabeza y mi barbilla, me senté en la tierra profundamente devastado.
And at my hearing this word, I have rent my garment and my upper robe, and pluck out of the hair of my head, and of my beard, and sit astonished,
4 Entonces todos los que temían a las palabras del Dios de Israel, por el pecado de los que habían vuelto, se reunieron conmigo; y me mantuve donde estaba, vencido de dolor, hasta la ofrenda de la tarde.
and unto me are gathered every one trembling at the words of the God of Israel, because of the trespass of the removal, and I am sitting astonished till the present of the evening.
5 A esa hora de la tarde, habiéndome humillado ante Dios, me levanté y, con señales de dolor, cayendo de rodillas, con las manos extendidas hacia el Señor mi Dios,
And at the present of the evening I have risen from mine affliction, and at my rending my garment and my upper robe, then I bow down on my knees, and spread out my hands unto Jehovah my God,
6 Dije: Dios mío, la vergüenza me impide levantar mi rostro hacia ti, Dios mío: porque nuestros pecados son más elevados que nuestras cabezas y nuestra maldad ha subido al cielo.
and say, 'O my God, I have been ashamed, and have blushed to lift up, O my God, my face unto Thee, for our iniquities have increased over the head, and our guilt hath become great unto the heavens.
7 Desde los días de nuestros padres hasta nuestros días hemos sido grandes pecadores; y por nuestros pecados, nosotros, nuestros reyes y nuestros sacerdotes hemos sido entregados a las manos de los reyes de las tierras, a la espada, a la prisión, a la pérdida de bienes y a la vergüenza, como lo es este día.
'From the days of our fathers we [are] in great guilt unto this day, and in our iniquities we have been given — we, our kings, our priests — into the hand of the kings of the lands, with sword, with captivity, and with spoiling, and with shame of face, as [at] this day.
8 Y ahora, por un corto tiempo, la gracia nos ha venido del Señor nuestro Dios, para permitir que un pequeño grupo de nosotros nos liberemos y para darnos un cambio en tierra santa, para que nuestro Dios pueda iluminar nuestros ojos y una medida de nueva vida en nuestra esclavitud.
'And now, as a small moment hath grace been from Jehovah our God, to leave to us an escape, and to give to us a nail in His holy place, by our God's enlightening our eyes, and by giving us a little quickening in our servitude;
9 Porque somos esclavos; pero nuestro Dios no se ha apartado de nosotros en nuestra esclavitud, sino que tuvo misericordia de nosotros ante los ojos de los reyes de Persia, para darnos nuevas fuerzas para reconstruir la casa de nuestro Dios y para restaurar sus lugares desolados, y para darnos protección en Judá y en Jerusalén.
for servants we [are], and in our servitude our God hath not forsaken us, and stretcheth out unto us kindness before the kings of Persia, to give to us a quickening to lift up the house of our God, and to cause its wastes to cease, and to give to us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.
10 Y ahora, oh Dios nuestro, ¿qué vamos a decir después de esto? porque no hemos guardado tus leyes,
'And now, what do we say, O our God, after this? for we have forsaken Thy commands,
11 Que les diste a tus siervos los profetas, diciendo: La tierra a la que vas, para tomarla como herencia, es una tierra inmunda, debido a las malas vidas de los pueblos de la tierra y sus asquerosos caminos, que han hecho la tierra inmunda de punta a punta.
that Thou hast commanded by the hands of thy servants the prophets, saying, The land into which ye are going to possess it, [is] a land of impurity, by the impurity of the people of the lands, by their abominations with which they have filled it — from mouth unto mouth — by their uncleanness;
12 Así que ahora no les entreguen a sus hijas a sus hijos, ni las tomen para sus hijos no procuren su paz o bienestar de esa gente; para que puedan ser fuertes, vivir del bien de la tierra y dárselo a sus hijos para una herencia para siempre.
and now, your daughters ye do not give to their sons, and their daughters ye do not take to your sons, and ye do not seek their peace, and their good — unto the age, so that ye are strong, and have eaten the good of the land, and given possession to your sons unto the age.
13 Y después de todo lo que nos ha venido a causa de nuestra maldad y nuestro gran pecado, y viendo que el castigo que nos has dado, oh Dios, es menor que la medida de nuestros pecados, y que tú has guardado de la muerte a los que estamos aquí;
'And after all that hath come upon us for our evil works, and for our great guilt (for Thou, O our God, hast kept back of the rod from our iniquities, and hast given to us an escape like this),
14 ¿Volvimos a ir en contra de tus órdenes, tomando esposas de entre las personas que hacen estas cosas repugnantes? ¿No estarías enojado con nosotros hasta que nuestra destrucción fuera completa, hasta que no haya nadie que se haya escapado a salvo?
do we turn back to break Thy commands, and to join ourselves in marriage with the people of these abominations? art not Thou angry against us — even to consumption — till there is no remnant and escaped part?
15 Oh Señor Dios de Israel, la justicia es tuya; solo somos una pequeña banda que se ha guardado de la muerte, como en este día: mira, estamos delante de ti en nuestro pecado; porque nadie puede mantener su lugar delante de ti por esto.
'O Jehovah, God of Israel, righteous [art] Thou, for we have been left an escape, as [it is] this day; lo, we [are] before Thee in our guilt, for there is none to stand before Thee concerning this.'
