Éxodo 1
1 Estos son los nombres de los hijos de Israel que vinieron a Egipto; cada hombre y su familia vinieron con Jacob;
And these [are] the names of the sons of Israel who are coming into Egypt; each man and his household have come with Jacob:
2 Rubén, Simeón, Leví y Judá;
Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,
3 Isacar, Zabulón y Benjamín;
Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,
4 Dan y Neftali, Gad y Aser.
Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.
5 Todos los descendientes de Jacob fueron setenta personas; y José estaba con ellos.
And all the persons coming out of the thigh of Jacob are seventy persons; as for Joseph, he was in Egypt.
6 Entonces José llegó a su fin, y todos sus hermanos y toda esa generación.
And Joseph dies, and all his brothers, and all that generation;
7 Y los hijos de Israel fueron fértiles, creciendo mucho en número y en poder; y la tierra estaba llena de ellos.
and the sons of Israel have been fruitful, and they teem, and multiply, and are very, very mighty, and the land is filled with them.
8 Ahora un nuevo rey llegó al poder en Egipto, que no tenía conocimiento de José.
And there rises a new king over Egypt, who has not known Joseph,
9 Y dijo a su pueblo: Mira, el pueblo de Israel es más numeroso y poderoso que nosotros;
and he says to his people, “Behold, the people of the sons of Israel [are] more numerous and mighty than we.
10 Maquinamos algo para que no sigan aumentando su población, y si hay una guerra, pueden unirse con aquellos que están en contra de nosotros, y atacarnos, y salgan de la tierra.
Give help! Let us act wisely concerning it, lest it multiply, and it has come to pass, when war happens, that it has been joined, even it, to those hating us, and has fought against us, and has gone up out of the land.”
11 Así que ponen a los supervisores del trabajo forzado sobre ellos, a fin de que su fuerza disminuye por la carga de su trabajo. Y construyeron ciudades para el faraón, Pitom y Ramsés.
And they set princes of tribute over it, so as to afflict it with their burdens, and it builds the store-cities of Pithom and Rameses for Pharaoh;
12 Pero cuanto más crueles eran con ellos, mayor era su número, hasta que toda la tierra estuvo llena de ellos. Y los hijos de Israel fueron odiados por los egipcios.
and as they afflict it, so it multiplies, and so it breaks forth, and they are distressed because of the sons of Israel;
13 Y dieron a los hijos de Israel aún un trabajo más difícil de hacer.
and the Egyptians cause the sons of Israel to serve with rigor,
14 Y amargaron sus vidas con el trabajo duro, fabricando materiales de construcción y ladrillos, y haciendo todo tipo de trabajo en el campo en las condiciones más difíciles.
and make their lives bitter in hard service, in clay, and in brick, and in every [kind] of service in the field; all their service in which they have served [is] with rigor.
15 Y el rey de Egipto dijo a las hebreas que daban ayuda en el momento del parto (el nombre de la una era Sifra y el nombre de la otra Fua.
And the king of Egypt speaks to the midwives, the Hebrewesses (of whom the name of the first [is] Shiphrah, and the name of the second Puah),
16 Cuando estás cuidando a las hebreas en el parto, si es hijo, lo matarás; pero si es una hija, ella puede seguir viviendo.
and says, “When you cause the Hebrew women to bear, and have looked on the children, if it [is] a son, then you have put him to death; and if it [is] a daughter, then she has lived.”
17 Pero las mujeres tenían temor de Dios, y no hicieron como dijo el rey de Egipto, sino dejaron que los hijos varones siguieran viviendo.
And the midwives fear God, and have not done as the king of Egypt has spoken to them, and they keep the boys alive;
18 Entonces el rey de Egipto ordenó llamar a las parteras, y les dijo: ¿Por qué hiciste esto, y dejaron que los hijos varones sigan viviendo?
and the king of Egypt calls for the midwives and says to them, “Why have you done this thing, and keep the boys alive?”
19 Y dijeron a Faraón: Porque las hebreas no son como las egipcias, porque son fuertes, y el nacimiento tiene lugar antes de que vengamos a ellas.
And the midwives say to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women [are] not as the Egyptian women, for they [are] lively; before the midwife comes to them—they have borne!”
20 Y la bendición de Dios estaba sobre estas mujeres: y la gente aumentó en número y se hizo muy fuerte.
And God does good to the midwives, and the people multiply, and are very mighty;
21 Y como las parteras que cuidaban a las madres hebreas tenían temor de Dios, las prosperó con familias.
and it comes to pass, because the midwives have feared God, that He makes households for them;
22 Y Faraón dio orden a todo su pueblo, diciendo: Todo hijo que nazca será echado al río, y toda hija podrá seguir viviendo.
and Pharaoh lays a charge on all his people, saying, “Every son who is born—you cast him into the River, and every daughter you keep alive.”
