Éxodo 5

1 Y Después de esto, Moisés y Aarón fueron a Faraón, y le dijeron: Él Señor Dios de Israel dice: Deja ir a mi pueblo para que hagan un banquete en mi honor en el desierto.

And afterward Moses and Aaron came, and said to Pharaoh, Thus says Jehovah, the God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast to me in the wilderness.

2 Y Faraón dijo: ¿Quién es el Señor, a cuya voz he de prestar oído, y dejar ir a Israel? No conozco al Señor y no dejaré ir a Israel.

And Pharaoh said, Who is Jehovah, that I should hearken to his voice to let Israel go? I do not know Jehovah, and moreover I will not let Israel go.

3 Y ellos dijeron: El Dios de los hebreos ha venido a nosotros; vayamos entonces a un viaje de tres días a la tierra baldía para hacer una ofrenda al Señor nuestro Dios, para que no nos envíe la muerte por peste o por la espada.

And they said, The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to Jehovah our God, lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.

4 Y el rey de Egipto les dijo: ¿Por qué, Moisés y Aarón, distraen al pueblo de su trabajo? vuelvan a su trabajo!

And the king of Egypt said to them, Therefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, loose the people from their works? Get you to your burdens.

5 Y Faraón dijo: En verdad, la gente de la tierra está aumentando en número, y tú los estás reteniendo de su trabajo.

And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land are now many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.

6 El mismo día Faraón dio órdenes a los supervisores y a los que eran responsables del trabajo, diciendo:

And the same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,

7 No le den a estos hombres mas paja para su fabricación de ladrillos como lo han estado haciendo; déjalos ir a recoger la paja por sí mismos.

Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick as formerly. Let them go and gather straw for themselves.

8 Pero demanda que hagan la misma cantidad de ladrillos que antes, y nada menos: porque son unos holgazanes; por eso ellos claman y dicen, vayamos y hagamos una ofrenda a nuestro Dios.

And the number of the bricks, which they made formerly, ye shall lay upon them. Ye shall not diminish any of it. For they are idle, therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.

9 Dales trabajo más duro a los hombres, mantenlos ocupados; que no presten atención a las palabras falsas.

Let heavier work be laid upon the men, that they may labor in it, and let them not regard lying words.

10 Y los príncipes del pueblo y sus hombres responsables salieron y dijeron al pueblo: Faraón dice: No te daré más paja.

And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spoke to the people, saying, Thus says Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.

11 Vayan y recojan más paja de donde sea posible; pero no se les rebajará la cantidad de trabajo.

Go yourselves, get you straw where ye can find it, for none of your work shall be diminished.

12 Entonces la gente fue enviada en todas direcciones por la tierra de Egipto para recoger rastrojo en vez de paja.

So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw.

13 Y los capataces los siguieron y les dijeron: Hagan su trabajo de día completo como antes, cuando se les daba la paja.

And the taskmasters were urgent saying, Fulfill your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw.

14 Y los hombres responsables de los hijos de Israel, que los príncipes de Faraón habían puesto sobre ellos, fueron castigados, y ellos les dijeron: ¿Por qué no hiciste tu trabajo ordinario, haciendo ladrillos como antes?

And the officers of the sons of Israel, whom Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Why have ye not fulfilled your task both yesterday and today, in making brick as formerly?

15 Entonces los hombres responsables de los hijos de Israel vinieron a Faraón, protestando y diciendo: ¿Por qué tratas así a tus siervos?

Then the officers of the sons of Israel came and cried to Pharaoh, saying, Why do thou deal thus with thy servants?

16 No nos dan paja, y nos dicen: Haz ladrillos, y dan golpes a tus siervos; pero es tu gente quien está equivocada.

There is no straw given to thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick. And, behold, thy servants are beaten, but the fault it in thine own people.

17 Pero él dijo: son unos holgazanes; por eso dices: vayamos y hagamos una ofrenda al Señor.

But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle. Therefore ye say, Let us go and sacrifice to Jehovah.

18 Ve ahora, vuelve a tu trabajo; no se les dará paja, pero deben hacer la cantidad completa de ladrillos.

Go therefore now, and work, for there shall no straw be given you, yet ye shall deliver the number of bricks.

19 Entonces los hombres responsables de los hijos de Israel vieron que estaban en aprietos cuando dijeron: El número de ladrillos que tienen que hacer todos los días no será menor que antes.

And the officers of the sons of Israel saw that they were in affliction, when it was said, Ye shall not diminish anything from your bricks, your daily tasks.

20 Y se encontraron cara a cara con Moisés y Aarón, que estaban en su camino cuando salieron de Faraón.

And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh,

21 Y ellos les dijeron: El Señor tome nota de ti y sea tu juez; porque le has dado a Faraón y a sus siervos una mala opinión de nosotros, poniendo una espada en sus manos para nuestra destrucción.

and they said to them, Jehovah look upon you, and judge, because ye have made our fragrance to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.

22 Y Moisés volvió al Señor y le dijo: Señor, ¿por qué has hecho mal a este pueblo? ¿Por qué me has enviado?

And Moses returned to Jehovah, and said, Lord, why have thou dealt ill with this people? Why is it that thou have sent me?

23 Porque desde el tiempo en que fui a Faraón para poner tus palabras delante de él, él ha hecho mal a este pueblo, y tú no les has dado ayuda.

For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he has dealt ill with this people, neither have thou delivered thy people at all.
