Éxodo 20
1 Y Dios dijo todas estas palabras:
And God spake all these words saying: —
2 Yo soy el Señor tu Dios, que te sacó de la tierra de Egipto, de la prisión.
I, am Yahweh thy God, —who have brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of servants: —
3 No debes tener otros dioses más que yo.
Thou shalt not have other gods besides me.
4 No harás imagen ni imagen de nada en el cielo, ni en la tierra, ni en las aguas debajo de la tierra.
Thou shalt not make to thee an image, or any form, that is in the heavens above, —or that is in the earth beneath, —or that is in the waters beneath the earth:
5 No puedes postrarte ante ellos ni darles culto, porque yo, el Señor tu Dios, soy un Dios que no dará su honor a otro; y enviaré castigo a los hijos por la maldad de sus padres, a la tercera y cuarta generación de mis enemigos;
thou shalt not bow thyself down to them nor be led to serve them—For, I, Yahweh, thy God, am a jealous GOD, visiting the iniquity of fathers upon sons, unto three [generations] and, unto four, of them that hate me;
6 Y tendré misericordia por mil generaciones sobre los que me aman y guardan mis leyes.
but shewing lovingkindness unto thousands [of generations], —of them who love me, and keep my commandments.
7 No debes usar el nombre del Señor tu Dios en vano; cualquiera que tome el nombre del Señor en vanos, será juzgado como un pecador por el Señor.
Thou shalt not utter the name of Yahweh thy God for falsehood, for Yahweh will not let him go unpunished who uttereth his name for falsehood.
8 Guarda en memoria el sábado y deja que sea un día santo.
Remember the sabbath day, to hallow it:
9 En seis días haz todo tu trabajo;
Six days, shalt thou labour, and do all thy work;
10 Pero el séptimo día es sábado para el Señor tu Dios; ese día no debes hacer ningún trabajo, tú o tu hijo o tu hija, tu siervo o tu sierva, tu ganado o el hombre de una tierra extraña que vive entre ti:
but, the seventh day, is a sabbath unto Yahweh thy God, —thou shalt do no work, thou nor thy son nor thy daughter nor thy servant, nor thy handmaid, nor thy beast, nor thy sojourner who is within thy gates,
11 Porque en seis días hizo él Señor los cielos y la tierra, y el mar, y todo lo que en ellos hay, y tomó reposo en el séptimo día; por esta razón el Señor bendijo al séptimo día y lo santificó.
For, in six days, did Yahweh make the heavens and the earth, [and] the sea—and all that in them is, and rested on the seventh day, —for this cause, Yahweh blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it.
12 Honra a tu padre y a tu madre, para que tu vida sea larga en la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te da.
Honour thy father, and thy mother, —that thy days may be prolonged upon the soil, which Yahweh thy God is about to give unto thee.
13 No mates a nadie sin causa.
Thou shalt not commit murder.
14 No cometerás adulterio.
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
15 No tomes la propiedad de otro.
Thou shalt not steal.
16 No des falso testimonio contra tu prójimo.
Thou shalt not testify against thy neighbour, with a witness of falsehood.
17 No codiciarás la casa de tu prójimo, ni a su mujer, ni a su siervo, ni a su sierva, ni a su buey, ni a su asno, ni a nada que le pertenezca.
Thou shalt not covet, thy neighbour’s house, —thou shalt not covet, thy neighbour’s wife nor his servant nor his handmaid nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything which belongeth unto thy neighbour.
18 Y toda la gente estaba mirando los truenos y las llamas y el sonido del cuerno y la montaña humeando; y cuando lo vieron, se mantuvieron alejados, temblando de miedo.
And, all the people, were witnessing the voices and the torches, and the sound of the horn, and the mountain smoking, —so then the people were struck with awe and shrank back, and stood afar off.
19 Y ellos dijeron a Moisés: A tus palabras escucharemos, pero la voz de Dios no llegue a nuestros oídos, por temor a que la muerte nos sobrevenga.
And they said unto Moses, Speak, thou, with us, and we will hear, —but let not God speak with us lest we die.
20 Y Moisés dijo al pueblo: No teman; porque Dios ha venido para ponerte a prueba, para que por temor a él puedas ser apartado del pecado.
And Moses said unto the people—Do not fear, for to the end he may prove you, hath God come, —and to the end the reverence of him may be upon your faces that ye sin not.
21 Y el pueblo guardó sus lugares lejos, pero Moisés se acercó a la nube oscura donde estaba Dios.
So then the people stood afar off, and, Moses, approached unto the thick gloom, where God was.
22 Y el SEÑOR dijo a Moisés: Di a los hijos de Israel: Ustedes mismos han visto que mi voz ha venido hasta ustedes desde el cielo.
Then said Yahweh unto Moses, Thus, shalt thou say, unto the sons of Israel, —Ye yourselves, have seen that out of the heavens, have I spoken with you.
23 No harán junto a mí dioses de plata y dioses de oro; tampoco ustedes se los harán.
Ye shall not make [aught] beside me, —neither gods of silver, nor gods of gold, shall ye make to yourselves.
24 Háganme un altar de tierra, ofreciendo sobre él sus holocaustos y sus ofrendas de paz, sus ovejas y sus bueyes; en todo lugar donde he puesto el recuerdo de mi nombre, iré a ustedes para darles mi bendición.
An altar of earth, shalt thou make to me, then shalt thou offer thereupon thine ascending-sacrifices and thy peace-offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen. In every place where I may mention my name, will I come in unto thee and will bless thee.
25 Y si me hacen un altar de piedra, no lo hagan con piedras labradas, porque el toque de un instrumento lo profanará.
But if, an altar of stones, thou wilt make to me, thou shalt not build them hewn, —for as soon as thou hast lifted, thy sharp tool, thereupon, thou hast profaned it;
26 Y no suban por escalones a mi altar, por temor a que sus cuerpos desnudos se vean descubiertos.
neither shalt thou go up, by steps unto mine altar, —lest by any means thy shame be discovered thereupon.
