Éxodo 17
1 Y los hijos de Israel salieron del desierto de Sin, por etapas, según el Señor les dio órdenes, y levantaron sus tiendas en Refidim; y no había agua potable para el pueblo.
All the congregation of the children of Israel [God prevails] traveled from the wilderness of Cin [Clay], by their journeys, according to Adonai’s order, and encamped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink.
2 Entonces el pueblo se enojó con Moisés y le dijo: Danos agua para beber. Y Moisés dijo: ¿Por qué estás enojado conmigo? y ¿por qué pones a Dios a prueba?
Therefore the people quarreled with Moses [Drawn out], and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses [Drawn out] said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Adonai?”
3 Y la gente tenía gran necesidad de agua; y murmuraron contra Moisés, y dijeron: ¿Por qué nos has sacado de Egipto para enviarnos la muerte a nosotros, nuestros hijos y nuestro ganado a causa de la necesidad de agua?
The people were thirsty for water there; and the people murmured against Moses [Drawn out], and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt [Abode of slavery], to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?”
4 Y Moisés, clamando al Señor, dijo: ¿Qué he de hacer con este pueblo? están casi listos para matarme apedreando.
Moses [Drawn out] cried to Adonai, saying, “What shall I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”
5 Y él Señor dijo a Moisés: Continúa delante del pueblo, y toma a algunos de los jefes de Israel contigo, y toma en tu mano la vara que estaba tendida sobre el Nilo, y vete.
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Walk on before the people, and take the elders of Israel [God prevails] with you, and take the rod in your hand with which you struck the Nile, and go.
6 Mira, tomaré mi lugar delante de ti sobre la roca en Horeb; y cuando le das un golpe a la roca, saldrá agua de ella, y la gente beberá. Y Moisés lo hizo ante los ojos de los jefes de Israel.
Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb [Desert]. You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” Moses [Drawn out] did so in the sight of the elders of Israel [God prevails].
7 Y dio a ese lugar el nombre de Masah y Meriba, porque los hijos de Israel se enojaron, y porque pusieron al Señor a prueba, diciendo: ¿Está el Señor con nosotros o no?
He called the name of the place Massah [Testing], and Meribah [Quarreling], because the children of Israel [God prevails] quarreled, and because they tested Adonai, saying, “Is Adonai among us, or not?”
8 Entonces vino Amalec y peleó contra Israel en Refidim.
Then Amalek [Man who licks up] came and fought with Israel [God prevails] in Rephidim.
9 Y Moisés dijo a Josué: Juntanos una banda de hombres y sal a hacer guerra contra Amalec; mañana tomaré mi lugar en la cima del monte con la vara de Dios en mi mano.
Moses [Drawn out] said to Joshua [Yah Salvation], “Choose men for us, and go out, fight with Amalek [Man who licks up]. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with God’s rod in my hand.”
10 Entonces Josué hizo como Moisés le dijo, y fue a la guerra contra Amalec; y Moisés, Aarón y Hur subieron a la cima del monte.
So Joshua [Yah Salvation] did as Moses [Drawn out] had told him, and fought with Amalek [Man who licks up]; and Moses [Drawn out], Aaron [Light-bringer], and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
11 Y mientras Moisés levantaba su mano, Israel era más fuerte; más cuando soltaba su mano, Amalec se hacía más fuerte.
When Moses [Drawn out] held up his hand, Israel [God prevails] prevailed. When he let down his hand, Amalek [Man who licks up] prevailed.
12 Pero las manos de Moisés se cansaban; así que pusieron una piedra debajo de él y él se sentó en ella, Aarón y Hur apoyando sus manos, uno de un lado y el otro sobre el otro; así que mantuvieron sus manos sin caer hasta que el sol se puso.
But Moses [Drawn out]’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron [Light-bringer] and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side. His hands were steady until sunset.
13 Y Josué venció a Amalec y a su pueblo a espada.
Joshua [Yah Salvation] defeated Amalek [Man who licks up] and his people with the edge of the sword.
14 Y el SEÑOR dijo a Moisés: Haz un registro de esto en un libro, para que se guarde en la memoria, y repítelo en los oídos de Josué: que todo recuerdo de Amalec será desarraigado por completo de la tierra.
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua [Yah Salvation]: that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek [Man who licks up] from under the sky.”
15 Entonces Moisés levantó un altar, y le dio el nombre Él Señor es mi estandarte:
Moses [Drawn out] built an altar, and called its name Adonai our Banner.
16 Porque dijo: Él Señor juró que habrá guerra contra Amalec de generación en generación.
He said, “Yah has sworn: ‘Adonai will have war with Amalek [Man who licks up] from generation to generation.’”
