Eclesiastés 2
1 Dije en mi corazón: Te daré alegría por una prueba; así que toma tu placer, pero fue sin ningún propósito.
I said in my heart, Come now, I will prove you with mirth, and behold you good: and, behold, this is also vanity.
2 De risa dije: Es insensato; y de alegría - ¿De qué sirve?
I said to laughter, Madness: and to mirth, Why do you this:
3 Hice una búsqueda con mi corazón para dar placer a mi carne con vino, todavía guiando mi corazón con sabiduría, y perseguir cosas tontas, para poder ver lo que era bueno para los hijos de los hombres hacer bajo Los cielos todos los días de su vida.
And I examined whether my heart would excite my flesh as [with] wine, (though my heart guided [me] in wisdom, ) and [I desired] to lay hold of mirth, until I should see of what kind is the good to the sons of men, which they should do under the sun all the days of their life.
4 Realicé grandes obras, construyéndome casas y plantando viñas.
I enlarged my work; I built me houses; I planted me vineyards.
5 Me hice jardines y huertos, plantando en ellos árboles frutales de todo tipo.
I made me gardens and orchards, and planted in them every kind of fruit tree.
6 Hice estanques para regar los bosques donde crecían los árboles.
I made me pools of water, to water from them the timber-bearing wood.
7 Compré siervos y sirvientas, y dieron a luz hijos e hijas en mi casa. Tenía una gran riqueza de rebaños y manadas, más que todos los que estaban en Jerusalén antes que yo.
I got servants and maidens, and servants were born to me in the house: also I had abundant possession of flocks and herds, beyond all who were before me in Jerusalem.
8 Reuní plata y oro y la riqueza de los reyes y de los países. Me hice de creadores de canto, cantores y cantoras; y las delicias de los hijos de los hombres, y concubinas.
Moreover I collected for myself both silver and gold also, and the peculiar treasures of kings and provinces: I procured me singing men and singing women, and delights of the sons of men, a butler and female cupbearers.
9 Y me engrandecí; aumentando más que todos los que habían estado antes que yo en Jerusalén, y mi sabiduría todavía estaba conmigo.
So I became great, and advanced beyond all that were before in Jerusalem: also my wisdom was established to me.
10 Y nada de lo que mis ojos deseaban les negué; No guardé ninguna alegría de mi corazón, porque mi corazón se complació en todo mi trabajo, y esta fue mi recompensa.
And whatever mine eyes desired, I withheld not from them, I withheld not my heart from all my mirth: for my heart rejoiced in all my labor; and this was my portion of all my labor.
11 Entonces vi todas las obras que mis manos habían hecho, y todo aquello por lo que había estado trabajando; y vi que todo era inútil y aflicción de espíritu, y que no había ganancia bajo el sol.
And I looked on all my works which my hands had wrought, and on my labor which I laboured to perform: and behold, all was vanity and waywardness of spirit, and there is no advantage under the sun.
12 Volví a buscar sabiduría y caminos necios. ¿Qué puede hacer el hombre que viene después del rey? Lo que él ha hecho antes.
Then I looked on to see wisdom, and madness, and folly: for who is the man who will follow after counsel, in all things where in he employs it?
13 Entonces vi que la sabiduría es mejor que la insensatez, y que la luz es mejor que la oscuridad.
And I saw that wisdom excels folly, as much as light excels darkness.
14 Los ojos del sabio están en su cabeza, pero el necio va caminando en la oscuridad; Pero aun así vi que el mismo suceso les llega a todos.
The wise man's eyes are in his head; but the fool walks in darkness: and I perceived, even I, that one event shall happen to them all.
15 Entonces dije en mi corazón: En lo que se refiere al hombre necio, así vendrá a mí; así que ¿para qué he sido demasiado sabio? Entonces dije en mi corazón: Esto de nuevo no tiene ningún propósito.
And I said in my heart, As the event of the fool is, so shall it be to me, even to me: and to what purpose have I gained wisdom? I said moreover in my heart, This is also vanity, because the fool speaks of his abundance.
16 Del sabio, como del necio, no hay memoria para siempre, ya que aquellos que ahora son habrán desaparecido de la memoria en los próximos días. ¡Mira cómo la muerte llega a los sabios como a los necios!
For there is no remembrance of the wise man with the fool for ever; forasmuch as now [in] the coming days all things are forgotten: and how shall the wise man die with the fool?
17 Entonces odiaba la vida, porque todo lo que estaba debajo del sol era malo para mí, no tiene ningún propósito y todo es aflicción de espíritu.
So I hated life; because the work that was wrought under the sun was evil before me: for all is vanity and waywardness of spirit.
18 Yo odiaba todo el fruto de mi trabajo que había hecho, porque lo dejaré al hombre que viene después de mí.
And I hated the whole of my labor which I took under the sun; because I must leave it to the man who will come after me.
19 ¿Y quién puede decir si ese hombre será sabio o insensato? Pero tendrá poder sobre todo el trabajo que he hecho y en el que he sido sabio bajo el sol. Esto de nuevo no tiene ningún propósito.
And who knows whether he will be a wise [man] or a fool? and whether he will have power over all my labor in which I laboured, and wherein I grew wise under the sun? this is also vanity.
20 Así que mi mente se convirtió en dolor por todos los problemas que había tomado y toda mi sabiduría bajo el sol.
so I went about to dismiss from my heart all my labor wherein I had laboured under the sun.
21 Porque hay un hombre cuyo trabajo ha sido hecho con sabiduría, con conocimiento y con mano experta; pero uno que no ha hecho nada por él, lo tendrá por su herencia. Esto de nuevo no tiene ningún propósito y es un gran mal.
For there is [such] a man that his labor is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in fortitude; [yet] this man shall give his portion to one who has not laboured therein. This is also vanity and great evil.
22 ¿Qué obtiene un hombre por todo su trabajo y por el peso del cuidado con el que ha hecho su trabajo bajo el sol?
For it happens to a man in all his labor, and in the purpose of his heart wherein he labors under the sun.
23 Todos sus días son dolor, y su obra está llena de dolor. Incluso en la noche su corazón no tiene descanso. Esto de nuevo no tiene ningún propósito.
For all his days [are days] of sorrows, and vexation of spirit is his; in the night also his heart rests not. This is also vanity.
24 No hay nada mejor para un hombre que comer y beber, y deleitarse en su trabajo. Esto que nuevamente vi fue de la mano de Dios.
A man has nothing [really] good to eat, and to drink, and to show his soul [as] good in his trouble. This also I saw, that it is from the hand of God.
25 ¿Quién puede comer o tener placer sin él?
For who shall eat, or who shall drink, without him?
26 Al hombre con quien se complace, Dios le da sabiduría, conocimiento y gozo; pero al pecador le da el trabajo de juntar bienes y acumular riquezas, para dar a aquel en quien Dios tiene placer. Esto de nuevo no tiene ningún propósito y es aflicción de espíritu.
For [God] has given to the man who is good in his sight, wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but he has given to the sinner trouble, to add and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God; for this is also vanity and waywardness of spirit.
