Eclesiastés 1
1 Las palabras del Predicador, hijo de David, rey en Jerusalén.
The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.
2 Todo es sin ningún propósito, dijo el Predicador, todos los caminos del hombre no tienen ningún propósito.
Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher; vanity of vanities, all is vanity.
3 ¿De qué se beneficia un hombre por todo su trabajo que hace bajo el sol?
What profit hath man of all his labor wherein he laboreth under the sun?
4 Una generación va y otra viene; mas la tierra es para siempre.
One generation goeth, and another generation cometh; but the earth abideth for ever.
5 El sol sale y el sol se pone, y regresa rápidamente al lugar donde salió.
The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to its place where it ariseth.
6 El viento va hacia el sur, volviendo de nuevo hacia el norte; dando vueltas para siempre.
The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it turneth about continually in its course, and the wind returneth again to its circuits.
7 Todos los ríos bajan al mar, pero el mar no está lleno; al lugar donde van los ríos, allí vuelven.
All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full; unto the place whither the rivers go, thither they go again.
8 Todas las cosas están llenas de cansancio; El hombre puede no dar su historia: el ojo nunca tiene suficiente de lo que ve, o el oído de su oído.
All things are full of weariness; man cannot utter [it]: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
9 Lo que ha sido, es lo que ha de ser, y lo que se ha hecho, es lo que se hará, y no hay nada nuevo bajo el sol.
That which hath been is that which shall be; and that which hath been done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
10 ¿Hay algo de lo que los hombres digan: Ves, esto es nuevo? Ya estaba en el tiempo antiguo que estaba antes de nosotros.
Is there a thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been long ago, in the ages which were before us.
11 No hay memoria de los que han ido antes, y de los que vienen después, no habrá memoria para los que todavía están por venir después de ellos.
There is no remembrance of the former [generations]; neither shall there be any remembrance of the latter [generations] that are to come, among those that shall come after.
12 Yo, el Predicador, fui rey sobre Israel en Jerusalén.
I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
13 Y di mi corazón a buscar con sabiduría todas las cosas que se hacen bajo el cielo. Es una cosa difícil que Dios ha puesto sobre los hijos de los hombres.
And I applied my heart to seek and to search out by wisdom concerning all that is done under heaven: it is a sore travail that God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised therewith.
14 He visto todas las obras que se hacen bajo el sol; nada tiene propósito, y aflicción de espíritu.
I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind.
15 Lo que está doblado no puede ser enderezado, y lo que no está allí, no puede ser numerado.
That which is crooked cannot be made straight; and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.
16 Dije a mi corazón: Mira, me he vuelto grande y tengo más sabiduría que todos los que me precedieron en Jerusalén. Sí, mi corazón ha visto mucha sabiduría y conocimiento.
I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I have gotten me great wisdom above all that were before me in Jerusalem; yea, my heart hath had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.
17 Y di mi corazón para obtener conocimiento de la sabiduría y de los caminos de los necios. Y vi que de nuevo se trataba de un deseo por el viento.
And I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also was a striving after wind.
18 Porque en mucha sabiduría hay mucho dolor, y el aumento del conocimiento es aumento del dolor.
For in much wisdom is much grief; and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.
