Deuteronomio 8
1 Ten cuidado de cumplir con todas las órdenes que te doy hoy, para que vivan y se multipliquen y vayan tomar como herencia la tierra que el Señor, por su juramento a tus padres, se comprometió a darles.
All the commandment which I am commanding thee to-day, shalt thou, observe, to do, —that ye may, live, and multiply, and enter in and possess the land, which Yahweh sware unto your fathers.
2 Y ten presente el camino por el cual el Señor, tu Dios, te ha llevado a través del desierto durante estos cuarenta años, para que él pueda abatir tu orgullo y ponerlo a prueba, para ver lo que había en tu corazón y Si mantendrías sus órdenes o no.
So then, thou shalt remember all the way in which Yahweh thy God caused thee to journey these forty years in the desert, —that he might humble thee to put thee to the proof to know what was in thy heart, —whether thou wouldest keep his commandments or not.
3 Él Te humilló y te hizo pasar por hambre y te dio maná para su comida, algo nuevo para ti, que tus padres nunca vieron; para dejarte en claro que el pan no es la única necesidad del hombre, sino que tu vida está en cada palabra que sale de la boca del Señor.
So he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna which thou hadst not known, neither had thy fathers known, —that he might lead thee to consider that not on bread alone, shall the son of earth live, but on whatsoever cometh from the bidding of Yahweh, shall the son of earth live.
4 A lo largo de estos cuarenta años, tu ropa no envejeció o sus pies se cansaron.
Thy mantle, hath not fallen with age from off thee, and, thy foot, hath not become swollen, —these forty years.
5 Ten presente este pensamiento, que como un hijo es castigado por su padre, entonces ustedes han sido castigados por el Señor tu Dios.
Thou must consider, then with thy heart, —that as a man chasteneth his son, Yahweh thy God, hath been chastening thee.
6 Entonces guarda las órdenes del Señor tu Dios, témele y camina en sus caminos.
Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments of Yahweh thy God, —to walk in his ways and to revere him.
7 Porque el Señor Dios te está guiando hacia una tierra buena, una tierra de manantiales de agua, fuentes y arroyos profundos que fluyen desde los valles y las colinas;
For, Yahweh thy God, is bringing thee into a good land; a land of ravines of water, of fountains and depths, coming forth in valley, and in mountain:
8 Una tierra de grano y vides e higueras y frutos bonitos; una tierra de olivos y miel;
a land of wheat and barley, and vine and fig-tree, and pomegranate, —a land of olive oil, and honey:
9 Donde habrá pan para ti en toda su medida y no necesitarán nada; una tierra donde las mismas piedras son de hierro y de cuyas colinas puedes obtener cobre.
a land wherein not in scarcity, shalt thou eat food, thou shalt lack nothing therein, —a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest hew copper.
10 Y tendrás suficiente comida y estarás lleno, alabarás al Señor tu Dios por la buena tierra que te ha dado.
So then thou shalt eat and be satisfied, —and bless Yahweh thy God, for the good land which he hath given unto thee.
11 Luego, cuídate de no olvidar al Señor tu Dios y de guardar sus juicios, mandamientos y estatutos que te doy este día.
Take heed to thyself, lest thou forget Yahweh thy God, —so as not to keep his commandments and his regulations and his statutes, which I am commanding thee to-day;
12 Y cuando hayas comido y estés lleno, y vivan en en las casas que se han hecho;
lest thou eat, and be satisfied, —and goodly houses, thou build and inhabit;
13 Y cuando tus vacas y tus rebaños aumenten, y tus reservas de plata y oro, y todo lo que tienes se multiplique;
and thy herd and thy flock, increase, and silver and gold, increase unto thee, —and all that thou hast, increase;
14 Cuida que tu corazón no se llene de orgullo, y te olvides del Señor tu Dios que te sacó de la tierra de Egipto, la casa de la esclavitud;
and so thy heart be lifted up, —and thou forget Yahweh thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt out of the house of servants;
15 Quién fue tu guía a través de ese gran y cruel desierto, donde había serpientes venenosas y escorpiones y una tierra seca sin agua; Él sacó para ti agua de la roca del pedernal.
who caused thee to journey through the great and terrible desert, of fiery serpents and scorpions, and thirsty wastes where was no water, —who brought forth for thee water out of the flinty rock;
16 Quien te dio maná para tu comida en el desierto, un alimento que tus padres nunca habían visto; para humillarte y tu corazón fuera probado para hacerte bien al final;
who fed thee with manna in the desert, which thy fathers had not known, —that he might humble thee, and that he might put thee to the proof, to do thee good in thy hereafter,
17 No digas, en tu corazón, Mi poder y la fuerza de mis manos me han traído esta riqueza.
and lest thou shouldest say in thy heart, —Mine own strength and the might of mine own hand, have gotten me this wealth.
18 Pero ten en mente al Señor tu Dios: porque es él quien te da el poder de obtener riqueza, así ha confirmado el pacto que hizo con su juramento con tus padres, como en este día.
But thou shalt remember Yahweh thy God, that it was, he, who had been giving thee strength to get wealth, —that so he might establish his covenant which he sware to thy fathers (as at this day).
19 Y es cierto que si en algún momento te apartas del Señor tu Dios y sigues a otros dioses para ser sus sirvientes y adorarlos, la destrucción les alcanzará.
But it shall be if thou forget, Yahweh thy God, and go after ether gods, and serve them, and bow thyself down to them, I testify against you to-day, that ye shall perish:
20 Como las naciones que el Señor destruye delante de ustedes, así serás destruidos; porque no obedecen ni escuchan la voz del Señor tu Dios.
like the nations which, Yahweh, is causing to perish from before you, so, shall ye perish, because ye would not hearken unto the voice of Yahweh your God.
