Deuteronomio 4

1 Ahora escucha, oh Israel, las leyes y los decretos que les estoy enseñando, y los cumplan; para que vivan y entren y tomen la tierra que el Señor, el Dios de sus padres, les está dando.

Now, therefore, O Israel, hearken thou unto the statutes, and unto the regulations, which, I, am teaching you, to do [them], —to the end ye may live and enter and possess the land, which, Yahweh, the God of your fathers, is giving unto you.

2 No hagan ninguna adición a las órdenes que les doy, y no quiten nada de ellas, sino que guarda las órdenes del Señor su Dios que les doy.

Ye shall not add unto the word which, I, am commanding you, neither shall ye take away therefrom, —that ye may keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, which, I, am commanding you.

3 Sus ojos han visto lo que hizo el Señor a causa de Baal-peor: porque el Señor vino a la destrucción de todos aquellos que salieron después de Baal-peor.

Yours are the eyes, that have seen what Yahweh did in Baal-peor, for every man who went after Baal-peor, did Yahweh thy God destroy out of thy midst;

4 Pero ustedes, que confiaron en el Señor, viven hoy, cada uno de ustedes.

but, ye who kept on cleaving unto Yahweh your God, alive, are ye all to-day.

5 Les he estado enseñando leyes y decretos, como me ordenó hacer el Señor mi Dios, para que los guarden en la tierra a la que los llevará por su herencia.

See! I have taught you statutes, and regulations, as Yahweh my God commanded me, —that ye should do so, in the midst of the land whereinto ye are entering to possess it.

6 Así que guarden estas leyes y hazlas; porque así su sabiduría y entendimiento serán claros a los ojos de los pueblos, quienes al escuchar todas estas leyes dirán: Verdaderamente, esta gran nación es una gente sabia y entendida.

Therefore shall ye observe, and do [them], for that, will be your wisdom, and discernment, in the eyes of the peoples, —who will hear all these statutes, and will say—Nevertheless, a people wise and discerning, is this great nation.

7 Porque ¿qué gran nación tiene un dios tan cerca de ellos como el Señor nuestro Dios, cada vez que nos volvemos a él en oración?

For what great nation is there which hath gods nigh unto it, —like Yahweh our God, whensoever we have cried out unto him.

8 ¿Y qué gran nación tiene leyes y decisiones tan justas como todas estas leyes que les presento hoy?

Or what great nation which hath righteous statutes and regulations, like all this law, which, I, am setting before you to-day?

9 Solo cuida y vigila tu alma, por temor a que las cosas que tus ojos han visto salgan de tu memoria y de tu corazón todos los días de tu vida; pero deja que el conocimiento de ellos sea dado a tus hijos y a los hijos de tus hijos;

Only take thou heed to thyself and keep thy soul diligently, so that thou forget not the things which thine own eyes have seen, and so that they go not out of thy heart, all the days of thy life, —but thou shalt make them known unto thy sons and unto thy sons’ sons: —

10 Aquel día en que esperabas ante el Señor su Dios en Horeb, y el Señor me dijo: Haz que todas las personas se junten, para que al escuchar mis palabras, puedan temerme todos los días de su vida en la tierra y dar esta enseñanza a sus hijos.

What day thou didst stand before Yahweh thy God, in Horeb, when Yahweh said unto me, Gather unto me the people, that I may let them hear my words, —which they must learn that they may revere me all the days which they are living upon the soil, their children also, must they teach.

11 Y se acercaron, esperando al pie de la montaña; y subieron llamas de fuego desde la montaña hasta el corazón del cielo, con nubes oscuras, y todo era negro como la noche.

So ye drew near and stood, under the mountain. Now, the mountain, was burning with fire, up to the midst of the heavens, —darkness, cloud, and thick gloom.

12 Y la voz del Señor vino a ustedes desde el fuego: el sonido de sus palabras llegó a sus oídos, pero no vieron ninguna forma; No había nada más que una voz.

Then spake Yahweh unto you out of the midst of the fire, —a voice of words, ye were hearing, no form, were ye seeing, there was only a voice.

13 Y él les dio su pacto, las Diez Mandamientos que les mandó guardar, que él puso por escrito sobre las dos piedras de la ley.

Then declared he unto you his covenant which he commanded you to do, the ten words, —and wrote them upon two tables of stone.

14 Y el Señor me ordenó en ese momento que les aclarara estas leyes y decisiones, para que puedan cumplirlas en la tierra a la que van, y cuál será su herencia.

And unto me, gave Yahweh command, at that time, to teach you statutes and regulations, —that ye should do them, in the land whereinto ye are passing over to possess it.

15 Así que vigilen con cuidado; porque no vieron ninguna forma de ningún tipo el día en que la voz del Señor vino a ustedes en Horeb desde en medio del fuego:

Ye must take diligent heed, therefore unto your own souls, for ye saw no manner of form, on the day Yahweh spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire;

16 Para que no se conviertan en malos caminos y no se hagan una imagen en la forma de cualquier ser vivo, hombre o mujer,

lest ye should break faith, and make you an image, a form of any likeness, —a model of male or female;

17 Ni de cualquier bestia de la tierra, o ave del aire,

a model of any beast that is in the earth, —a model of any winged bird, that flieth in the heavens;

18 Ni de de cualquier cosa que se arrastre sobre la tierra, o cualquier pez en el agua debajo de la tierra.

a model of any thing that creepeth on the ground, —a model of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth;

19 Y cuando tus ojos se eleven al cielo, y veas el sol y la luna y las estrellas, todo el ejército del cielo, no te dejes llevar para adorarlos, ni te conviertas en los sirvientes de lo que El Señor ha dado igualmente a todos los pueblos bajo el cielo.

or lest thou shouldest lift up thine eyes towards the heavens and see the sun and the moon, and the stars—all the host of the heavens, and shouldest be seduced, and shouldest bow thyself down to them and he led to serve them, —the which Yahweh thy God hath assigned unto all the peoples under all the heavens;

20 Pero el Señor los sacó del horno de hierro, de Egipto, para ser el pueblo de su herencia, como lo son hoy.

whereas you, hath Yahweh taken, and brought you forth out of a smelting-pot of iron, out of Egypt, —that ye might become his own inherited people as at this day.

21 Y el Señor se enojó conmigo por causa de ustedes, me hizo un juramento de que no iba a pasar el Jordán a la buena tierra que el Señor les está dando por su herencia:

But, Yahweh shewed himself angry with me, for your sakes, —and sware that I should not pass over the Jordan, and that I should not enter into the good land, which, Yahweh thy God, is giving unto thee as an inheritance;

22 Pero la muerte ha de venir a mí en esta tierra, no puedo pasar por el Jordán, sino que irán y tomarán esa buena tierra por su herencia.

for, I, am about to die in this land, I am not to pass over the Jordan, —but, ye, are to pass over, and possess this good land.

23 Tengan cuidado de no permitir que el pacto del Señor su Dios, que él ha hecho con ustedes, se salga de su mente, y no hagan imágenes de cualquier tipo, en contra de las órdenes que el Señor su Dios les ha dado.

Take heed to yourselves lest ye forget the covenant of Yahweh your God, which he hath solemnised with you, —and so make for yourselves an image, the form of anything, the which Yahweh thy God hath forbidden thee;

24 Porque el SEÑOR su Dios es un fuego consumidor, y celoso, él no permitirá que el honor que es suyo sea dado a ningún otro.

seeing that as for Yahweh thy God, a consuming fire, he is, —a jealous GOD.

25 Si, cuando han tenido hijos y nietos, y han estado viviendo mucho tiempo en la tierra, se vuelven a los malos caminos, y haces una imagen de cualquier tipo, y hacen el mal a los ojos del Señor tu Dios, moviéndolo a la ira.

When thou shalt beget sons, and sons’ sons, and become careless in the land and break faith and make an image the form of any thing, and shalt do the thing that is wicked in the eyes of Yahweh thy God provoking him to anger,

26 Que el cielo y la tierra sean mis testigos contra ustedes hoy, que la destrucción los alcanzará rápidamente, separándolos de esa tierra que van a tomar sobre el Jordán; sus días no serán largos en esa tierra, pero serán destruidos por completo.

I take both the heavens and the earth to witness against you to-day, that ye shall, perish, speedily, from off the land which ye are passing over the Jordan to possess, —ye shall not prolong your days thereupon; for, ye shall surely be laid waste;

27 Y ​​el Señor te enviará vagando entre los pueblos; solo una pequeña banda de ustedes se mantendrá alejada de la muerte entre las naciones a donde el Señor los enviará.

and Yahweh will scatter you among the peoples, —and ye shall have left remaining of you men easily counted, among the nations whither Yahweh will drive you;

28 Allí servirán a los dioses, hechos de manos de hombres, de madera y piedra, que no tienen poder de ver, oír, ingerir alimentos u oler.

and ye will serve there gods made by the hands of man, —wood or stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell.

29 Pero si en esas tierras buscas al Señor tu Dios, buscándolo con todo tu corazón y alma, lo encontrarás.

If thou shalt seek from thence, Yahweh thy God, then shalt thou find him, —when thou shalt search after him with all thy heart, and with all thy soul.

30 En los postreros días cuando estén en problemas y todas estas cosas les hayan llegado, volverás al Señor tu Dios y escucharás su voz;

In thy distress, when all these things have found thee out—in the afterpart of the days, thou wilt return unto Yahweh thy God, and wilt hearken to his voice.

31 Porque el Señor tu Dios es un Dios de misericordia, no te quitará su ayuda ni dejará que la destrucción te alcance, ni se olvidará del pacto que hizo mediante un juramento con tus padres.

For, a GOD of compassion, is Yahweh thy God, he will not forsake thee neither will he destroy thee, —nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.

32 Reflexiona ahora sobre los días pasados, antes de tu tiempo, desde el día en que Dios dio vida al hombre en la tierra, y escudriñando de un extremo del cielo al otro, mira si hay algo tan grande como Esto ha sido alguna vez, o si se ha hablado de algo parecido en la historia.

For ask, I pray you, of the former days which were before thee, even from the day when God created man upon the earth, yea from one end of the heavens even to the other end of the heavens, —whether aught was ever brought to pass, like this great thing, or was ever heard of like it:

33 ¿Alguna gente se ha ido viviendo después de escuchar la voz de Dios desde en medio del fuego como lo hiciste?

Did a people ever hear the voice of a god speaking out of the midst of fire, as, thou, didst hear, and yet live?

34 ¿Ha tomado Dios alguna vez antes una nación para sí mismo de fuera de otra nación, mediante pruebas, señales y maravillas, mediante la guerra y con una mano fuerte y un brazo extendido y grandes actos de asombro y temor, como el Señor? ¿Tu Dios hizo por ti en Egipto, ante tus propios ojos?

Or did a god ever make trial of entering in to take unto him a nation out of the midst of a nation, by provings, by signs and by wonders and by fighting, and by a firm hand and by a stretched-out arm, and by great terrors, —according to all that Yahweh your God did for you in Egypt, before your eyes?

35 Todo esto te lo deje ver, para que puedas estar seguro de que el Señor es Dios y no hay otro.

Thou, wast allowed to see that thou mightest know, that Yahweh, he is God, there is none other than he alone.

36 Desde el cielo mismo, su voz vino a ti, enseñándote; y en la tierra te dejó ver su gran fuego; y sus palabras llegaron a tus oídos de en medio del fuego.

Out of the heavens, he let thee hear his voice to instruct thee, —and, upon the earth, he let thee see his great fire, and his own words, thou didst hear out of the midst of the fire.

37 Y debido a su amor por tus padres, tomó su descendencia la hizo suya, y él mismo, presente entre ustedes, te sacó de Egipto por su gran poder;

And because that he loved thy fathers, therefore chose he his seed after him, —and brought thee forth with his presence with his great might, out of Egypt;

38 Expulsando ante ti naciones más grandes y más fuertes que tú, para llevarte a su tierra y dártela por tu herencia, como en este día.

to dispossess nations, greater and stronger than thou from before thee, —to bring thee in. to give unto thee their land for an inheritance: As at this day.

39 Así que hoy, asegúrate, y guarda el conocimiento profundo en tus corazones, que el Señor es Dios, en el cielo en lo alto y aquí en la tierra y debajo de la tierra, y no hay otro dios.

So then thou must consider to-day, and bring it back to thy heart, that, Yahweh, he is God in the heavens above and upon the earth beneath, —there is none other.

40 Luego, guarden sus leyes y las órdenes que les doy hoy para que te vaya bien a ti y a tus hijos después de ustedes, y para que su vida sea larga en la tierra que el Señor su Dios les está dando para Siempre.

So shalt thou keep his statutes and his commandments which, I, am commanding thee to-day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy sons after thee, —and to the end thou mayest prolong thy days upon the soil, which Yahweh thy God, is giving thee, all the days.

41 Luego, Moisés tenía tres ciudades marcadas al otro lado del Jordán, mirando hacia el este;

Then, did Moses set apart three cities, over the Jordan, —towards the rising of the sun:

42 A Cualquiera que causa la muerte de su prójimo por error y no a través del odio, puede irse en fuga; para que en uno de estos pueblos se le impida la muerte:

that the manslayer might flee thither who should slay his neighbour unawares, he, not having hated him, aforetime, —and might flee unto one of these cities, and live:

43 Los nombres de las ciudades eran Bezer en las tierras baldías, en la tierra de la mesa, para los Rubenitas; y Ramot en Galaad para los gaditas; y Golán en Basán para Manasses.

namely Bezer, in the desert of the table-land, for the Reubenites, —and Ramoth in Gilead for the Gadites, and Golan in Bashan, for the Manassites.

44 Esta es la ley que Moisés puso ante los hijos de Israel:

This, then is the law which Moses set before the sons of Israel:

45 Estas son las reglas y las leyes y las decisiones que Moisés dio a los hijos de Israel después de que salieron de Egipto;

These, are the testimonies, and the statutes and the regulations, —which Moses spake unto the sons of Israel when they came forth out of Egypt:

46 Al otro lado del Jordán, en el valle que mira a Bet-peor, en la tierra de Sehón, rey de los amorreos, que gobernaba en Hesbón, a quien Moisés y los hijos de Israel vencieron después de haber salido de Egipto:

over the Jordan in the valley over against Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, —whom Moses and the sons of Israel smote, when they came forth out of Egypt:

47 Y tomaron su tierra por herencia, y la tierra de Og, rey de Basán, los dos reyes de los amorreos, cuyas tierras estaban al otro lado del Jordán, al este;

so they took possession of his land, and the land of Og king of Bashan the two kings of the Amorites, who were over the Jordan, —towards the rising of the sun;

48 Desde Aroer en el borde del valle del Arnon hasta el Monte Sion, que es Hermón,

from Aroer which is on the edge of the ravine of Arnon, even unto Mount Sion, the same, is Hermon;

49 Y toda la Arabá al otro lado del Jordán, al oriente, hasta el mar de Arabá, bajo las laderas de Pisga.

and all the waste plain over the Jordan, towards sunrise, even unto the sea of the waste plain, —under the slopes of the Pisgah.
