Deuteronomio 19
1 Cuando las naciones, cuya tierra el Señor tu Dios les está dando, hayan sido destruidas por él, y ustedes hayan tomado su lugar y están viviendo en sus ciudades y en sus casas;
When the Lord thy God shall roote out the nations, whose lande the Lord thy God giueth thee, and thou shalt possesse them, and dwell in their cities, and in their houses,
2 Tendrán tres ciudades marcadas en la tierra que el Señor tu Dios les da para su herencia.
Thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the middes of thy lande which the Lord thy God giueth thee to possesse it.
3 Deben preparar un camino y ver que la tierra que el Señor tu Dios les está dando para su herencia se dividida en tres partes, a las que cualquier homicida puede ir en fuga.
Thou shalt prepare thee the way, and deuide the coastes of the land, which the Lord thy God giueth thee to inherite, into three parts, that euery manslayer may flee thither.
4 Esta es la regla para todo aquel que huya allí, después de causar la muerte de su vecino por error y no a través del odio;
This also is ye cause wherfore the manslayer shall flee thither, and liue: who so killeth his neighbor ignorantly, and hated him not in time passed:
5 Por ejemplo, si un hombre va al bosque con su vecino para cortar árboles, y cuando toma su hacha para dar un golpe al árbol, la cabeza del hacha se desprende y cae y a su prójimo le da una herida causando su muerte; entonces el hombre puede ir en vuelo a uno de estos pueblos y estar a salvo;
As hee that goeth vnto the wood with his neighbor to hew wood, and his hand striketh with the axe to cut downe the tree, if the head slip from the helue, and hit his neighbour that he dieth, the same shall flee vnto one of the cities, and liue,
6 Porque si no, el que tiene el derecho de castigo puede ir corriendo tras el que toma la vida en el calor de su ira, y alcanzarlo porque el camino es largo, y darle un golpe mortal; aunque no es correcto que lo maten porque no fue movido por el odio.
Least the auenger of the blood follow after the manslayer, while his heart is chafed, and ouertake him, because the way is long, and slaie him, although he be not worthy of death, because he hated him not in time passed.
7 Y por eso les estoy ordenando que vean que tres ciudades están marcadas para este propósito.
Wherefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt appoint out three cities for thee.
8 Y si el Señor su Dios amplía los límites de su tierra, como dijo en su juramento a sus padres, y les da toda la tierra que se comprometió a dar a tus padres;
And when the Lord thy God enlargeth thy coastes (as he hath sworne vnto thy fathers) and giueth thee all the lande which he promised to giue vnto thy fathers,
9 Si guardas y cumples todas estas órdenes que les doy hoy, amar al Señor tu Dios y andar siempre en sus caminos; luego añadirán otras tres ciudades más, además de estas tres, marcadas para ustedes:
(If thou keepe all these commandements to doe them, which I commaund thee this day: to wit, that thou loue the Lord thy God, and walke in his waies for euer) then shalt thou adde three cities moe for thee besides those three,
10 Para que en toda tu tierra, que el Señor tu Dios les da por su herencia, ningún hombre sea condenado a muerte, por lo cual serán responsables.
That innocent bloude be not shed within thy land, which the Lord thy God giueth thee to inherite, lest bloud be vpon thee.
11 Pero si algún hombre odia a su prójimo, esperando secretamente lo ataca y le da un golpe que causa su muerte, y luego huye a una de estas ciudades;
But if a man hate his neighbour, and lay waite for him, and rise against him, and smite any man that he die, and flee vnto any of these cities,
12 Los hombres responsables de su pueblo deben enviarlo y llevárselo, y entregarlo al que tiene el derecho de castigo para que lo condene a muerte.
Then the Elders of his citie shall send and set him thence, and deliuer him into the hands of the auenger of the blood, that he may die.
13 No tengan piedad de él, para que Israel pueda ser limpio de la sangre del inocente, y les irá bien en toda las cosas.
Thine eye shall not spare him, but thou shalt put away the crie of innocent blood from Israel, that it may goe well with thee.
14 El lindero de tu vecino, que fue puesto en su lugar por los hombres de los tiempos antiguos, no debe ser movido o arrebatado en la tierra de su herencia que el Señor tu Dios les está dando.
Thou shalt not remooue thy neighbours marke, which they of olde time haue set in thine inheritance, that thou shalt inherite in the lande, which ye Lord thy God giueth thee to possesse it.
15 Un testigo no puede hacer una declaración contra un hombre en relación con cualquier pecado o maldad que haya cometido. En la palabra de dos o tres testigos, la causa debe ser juzgada.
One witnes shall not rise against a man for any trespasse, or for any sinne, or for any fault that hee offendeth in, but at the mouth of two witnesses or at the mouth of three witnesses shall the matter be stablished.
16 Si un testigo falso hace una declaración en contra de un hombre, diciendo que ha hecho algo malo,
If a false witnesse rise vp against a man to accuse him of trespasse,
17 Entonces los dos hombres, entre los cuales tuvo lugar la discusión, deben presentarse ante el Señor, ante los sacerdotes y jueces que están en el poder;
Then both the men which striue together, shall stand before ye Lord, euen before the Priests and the Iudges, which shall be in those daies,
18 Y los jueces verán la pregunta con cuidado: y si se ve al testigo como falso y ha hecho una declaración falsa contra su hermano,
And the Iudges shall make diligent inquisition: and if the witnesse be found false, and hath giuen false witnes against his brother,
19 Entonces hazle a él lo que era su propósito hacer a su hermano, y así quitarás el mal de entre ti.
Then shall yee doe vnto him as hee had thought to doe vnto his brother: so thou shalt take euil away forth of the middes of thee.
20 Y el resto de la gente, al oírlo, se llenará de temor, y nunca más volverá a hacer semejante maldad entre ti.
And the rest shall heare this, and feare, and shall henceforth commit no more any such wickednes among you.
21 No tengas piedad; vida por vida, ojo por ojo, diente por diente, mano por mano, pie por pie.
Therefore thine eye shall have no compassion, but life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foote for foote.
